For the frugal amoung us, I would suggest looking at the Walther's Cornerstone
Series of HO structures. The Rail Repair Shops brick building has very large
windows and several of them can be kitbashed together to make a fairly
substantial building -- factory, warehouse, whatever. The NYC has a sizeable
warehouse made from three of these kits. Place them on 3/4" thick plywood and
you have an instant loading dock ready for your S scale forklift. The wall
panels can easily be made into thin, flat, pretend structures that hug the
wall. Another possibility is the Heljan Brewery kit which also has large
windows and was commonly (in the goode olde daze) converted to S scale via
kitbashing.

While some prefer the elegant sophisticated kits resulting from laser machines
and delicate resin castings, others find frugality to be appealing. Frugal is
good. So is the modern stuff. I like it all.
