Hi All --
While Bill Wade’s instructions are well above average, my recent dealings
with his coal tipple kit have left me a bit un-instructed. He supplies a
VERY nice booklet of instructions, with many photos and key numbers.
However, I had to re-read the instructions many times to determine what
instructions were in what section, and then had to read them again several
times during the construction process to make sure I understood how the
pieces actually fit together. The instructions in the old plastic model
kits, the ones before everything was pictures so the international group
didn’t have to have special instructions, are a good model to follow.
Each step in the assembly process was in sequence, with painting info and
where to glue displayed on clear drawings of the parts to be done IN THAT
STEP. Admittedly, the coaling tipple complex is not a beginner’s
structure and the various buildings are meant to fit together in a
particular way, BUT I am not assembling the kit like that. Most kits I do
get modified along the way to fit my particular need. Were Bill to
continue producing the kit, I would make some suggestions on how to improve
the instructions, but that is a moot point now as the kit has been
discontinued (though Bill might still have some on hand). To Bill’s
credit, the laser cutting and design of his cuts is as good as it gets.
Have fun!

...Sadly, most instructions aren't worth much.
I think this is because the kind of brain that can imagineer structure kits
doesn't identify with the modeler who opens the box and sees just so much
pretty
lumber....
As for bashing laser-cut kits and resin kits -- Well, I must disagree with
brother Werre. ...
.... The BTS "Orbisona Station" kit had one of the best sets of instructions
I have ever seen. Billy Wade went far beyond
what most vendors would ever consider in order to create good instructions.
