John, my rip track also has a couple of Tsunami equipped engines in
repair. Both bit the dust about a year ago during the Sn3 Symposium
that was held here. Both engines, one Alco models RSD, and an Overland
light Mike developed troubles. Both decoders were removed and
repaired. I've probably done over one hundred DCC installs of all
kinds, with at least half being sound systems, so these were a surprise
especially since they had been running fine for months. The diesel unit
lost it's sound 'part' but actually still ran despite the fact that the
purple shrink wrap had pretty much melted away. The mike just started
acting crazy and exhibited some heat damage again with the shrink wrap.

I'm doing the new installation by completely rewiring everything very
slowly checking things out as I've gotten a little 'gun shy' by the
repair bills! I'm concerned that Soundtraxx might have a slight issue
with QC.

Any thoughts from anybody else!

I think that Tsunami decoder may have a bad amp. Right now the engine
is sitting on my RIP track behind about ten other projects so I have not
taken the time to figure out the problem.
