  Don't know about back east but here in the west bridge guard rails are not 
close to the running rails like switch frog guard rails. Bridge guard rails are 
set over a few inches and apparently are just there to keep derailed trucks 
from getting so far off course that the cars hit the bridge( based on what I 
saw on the old SP in the 50's and 60's, who knows how UP does them today?)..dave
