Jonathan, you observation about lack of adequate variety of models in S strikes
a nerve.
Being new to S, coming out of 2 rail O, I had to consciously consider if I
could live with the limited availability of locos in S that meet the standard I
desire.  I'm happy to say that the SHS line does that, except that in that case,
I only need so many switchers.  I have found F units, and someday hope to have
a few, but really, since my era is 1990, the F units are largely gone.  I'm
also taking a hard look at American Models SD60s.
I know the context was/is high quality from Sunset, I guess I had hoped that
they would jump into S as well.
Then, compound all this with the quagmire in China and it spells a long period
of drought on the loco front.
I have great hopes for the SD45 being developed by Scale America.
One positive to all this...it forces discipline in the area of spending for
locos and therefore keeps me from going nuts like I did in 2 rail O.  Those
were the good ol' days...real estate was good and money was good.
Quite a different story today.

Rail/Sunset

That's what I was afraid of. Nothing against the existing mfgs. as they are
excellent, but IMO they would not compete for the same dollars. Also, more
model choices just makes it that much easier to draw more people into S as you
would mitigate the main concern of limited product availability. I know I am in
the minority, but I have been modeling in several other scales for over 30
years and I think the one major hurdle that keeps HO and O scale modelers out
of S is lack of product diversity. Most scale modelers want to model a specific
road or two. That is difficult to do in S. I hope Scott gives it another shot
with a different model that has more broad based appeal.

Jonathan

As of 7:30 PM last night the "S" scale engines are cancelled. Scott feels that
the "S" scale market doesn't want a Chevy in the market place. He feels that if
the "S" scale modelers want only a Caddy then so be it. Scott was welling to
work with the "S" scale market and was hoping to offer other engines inthe
futureif this project was a go.
