I remember the Pioneer Zephyr announcement from 3rd Rail. As with this time,
folks here started talking about the previous Sunset Models imports,
effectively torpedoing the 3rd Rail PZ before it had a chance.
In spite of the praise O scalers give 3rd Rail, it seems Scott Mann will never
get past the old Sunset Models reputation with S Scalers.
However, on the other side of the coin, the minimalistic amount of advertizing
didn't help the PZ or the Pacifics.
Same thing happened with Southwind to a degree. One of Jettie's last
announcements was for a locomotive very dear to my heart: the Russian Decapod,
particularly in the Frisco version.
Again, minimal advertizing. It didn't help the in the S Gaugian, in order to
illustrate the Russian in Western Maryland, They used a photo of a different,
heavier class of WM 2-10-0 and called it a Russian. Wrong. Not even close...
Also not helping, in a Southwind newsletter, a drawing of the mechanism was
shown, with a drawing of a stretched SP 2-8-0 boiler over it. Again, wrong...
Still, I sent in (one heckofa) deposit in hopes to push the Russian Decapod
project along. Nope. I don't even remember how long I waited without ever
hearing another peep anywhere about the decapod. Finally, I felt compelled to
write to Southwind and get my deposit back. (I did get it back.)
Now, I'm waiting to see if PBL's KL&L 70 ton standard gauge Shay get cancelled.
My reservation and deposit's been in since the announcement. Were going on
two years, now.
