Several years ago Sunset/3rd Rail had announced the possibility of the Burlington Pioneer Zephyr in S. It also failed to receive enough enthusiasm to start production. It wasn't too much longer then RiverRaisin imported the model successfully.
I think one could also assume that Southwind would probably have made several of the SP engines that RR is now producing--reservations were being solicited. Don't forget that the USRA 0-6-0 was also originally a SouthWind Project. A B&O version, the pilot model, was the cover of the March/April 92' issue of the S Gaugian. Unfortunately, no real ads were produced and the S Gaugian might not have been the best venue for the brass imports in that price range. So it took about 20 years to get that model made. So if you're patient, you just might get your model built or imported, but like you mentioned in the meantime many will have gone elsewhere for their hobby fix.
