Thorin, Whenever I build a wood project, whether a structure, car kit, or a toy for the kids, I ALWAYS seal the wood with shellac first. Shellac dries quickly, can be painted over with any paint, is non-toxic, and is available in spray cans. One or two light coats are better than a heavy coat. The wood will not warp if sealed with shellac.
