I agree: MR is what I call "buy and plop." You buy all the components, plop 
them down, and you have a layout. If you buy and plop enough, you can be a 
featured layout in the magazine. RMC has turned out to be much more interesting 
to me for the same reasons Jace says: it actually says how to build the 
components. But remember it's only a matter of degree - when I need scribed 
siding I don't scribe it myself, I don't build it from individual boards.

In spite of the lauded great variety of ready to plop S Scale models, it is not 
a "buy and plop" scale, but one that requires ingenuity and forces you to 
develop skills not required in HO. So why would we expect MR to cover S scale? 
It just doesn't fit their worldview.
