Peter,

I have emailed AM for clarification.  I f that is what they expect you to do it should be explained on the website. Typically I won't order anything from a website unless I am absolutely certain of the options on the product I am ordering.

Frank,

Late last year I bought a PRR FA-2 A-B-A set from American Models directly. I wanted the DC version with scale wheels, no sound, and an unpowered B unit. They don't list that particular configuration on their site. A quick e-mail to them asking them if they sold that configuration and if they had it in stock was answered in the affirmative. I was told to use the online shopping cart to pick the scale ABA configuration, and then in the "comments" section explain exactly what I wanted. I had exactly what I ordered in about a week. I get the feeling, but I may be completely off on this, that they custom-assemble the configuration you want before shipping.

Hi Ken,

American Models is a good place to start. I had already found their site but hesitated to order because I wasn't sure what I would get. When you look at their steam locos they have 4 buttons for power and wheels. 2 for AC and DC hi-rail and DC scale. The diesels have only 2 buttons one for AC and one for DC. At the online hobby shops I have seen their diesels available in DC hi-rail or scale. I just wasn't sure what I would be getting.

That plus my friend's American Models GP9 is in a box with 3 possible configurations. First is scale, second is DC hi-rail and third is AC hi-rail with the DC hi-rail being checked. This loco runs fine on my Tomalco code 100 and I didn't think a hi-rail loco would do that. Does that mean American Models is sold out of the scale versions and only has DC and AC hi-rail available or am I missing something?
