I think the new marketing scheme is one of minimizing all conceivable risk in 
this day and age of uncertainty pertaining to just about everything.  Sell it 
out and then move on to the next product seems to be the practice.  Lionel's 
Prez as much as said so (in his own words) on the video on Lionel's web site 
(3rd section).  Interesting to watch if you have not seen his interview.  

Note I am not saying this is the best or optimum marketing scheme, but I think 
it is the one in effect at this time -- for better or for worse.  Putting it 
another way, nobody uses the traditional scheme of making a mass produced 
product to keep on the shelf in case an order arrives.
