George,
Although I haven't purchased the Kalmbach DVD's, I do remember reading
the 'letters to the editor' area in the 60's where several modelers
announced that they had switched from AF/S to HO. This is the time when
I was just starting to understand model railroading. The only ads I
recall seeing was Blum's from Cleveland where they devoted only a tiny
space for S--mainly for that $4 Dockside! I bought what I could from
them before discovering Branchline fown in Memphis.
It was pretty discouraging for a kid my age but either I was pretty
brave or too dumb to switch scales with the rest.

For those who are truly concerned about S scale growing I thought I
would share some thoughts. I bought the Model Railroader back issue
DVD from Kalmbach. I've been reading a lot of the late 40's and early
fifties issues. In those issues are plenty of S supplier support.
There are quite a few articles on building in S. There are kids buying
American Flyer.
