should be `degrees` there...
Anyhow, I think this should also be a separate function, called `degrees`.
Then `degrees(1)` or `degrees()` would to what your `degree()` currently
does.
You just can't stuff parameters with such different semantics into one
function, unless you want your users to get a headache...
