Comment:
Since `_upper_envelope` deals with ceiling bounds and refers only to
information which is already contained in `_ceiling`, it looks like
`_upper_envelope` should really be a method of `Envelope` (then better
without the leading underscore). So please justify why you think this
should ''not'' be the case.
