 Actually, your last example `M(1,0,0) in octant.rays()` is precisely where
 I would like some feedback to the user that he is probably doing something
 wrong. Confusing the polytope with its dual is precisely what a beginner
 in toric geometry might do, and I think it would be very helpful if there
 were more feedback than a successful completion of the command.

 How about we don't raise exceptions and keep your "mathematical" sense of
 membership but use the python `warnings` module to print a warning. By
 default the warning would only occur the first time when the user aims for
 his foot...
