I just got an email from Karim Belabas, a Pari developer, that they are
going to change Pari so it compiles with -fPIC on all platforms. (This is
Pari bug 1078)
I've no idea how long it will take them to integrate that patch, but
hopefully not too long. Once integrated, the patches for Linux PPC and
Solaris in Sage that add -fPIC can be removed.
