Comment(by drkirkby):

 I've got no idea if this will solve it, but the sage_fortran script has in
 it:

 {{{
 /usr/local/gcc-4.5.0-delayed/bin/gfortran -fPIC $@
 }}}

 but the bit at the end should be quoted:

 {{{
 /usr/local/gcc-4.5.0-delayed/bin/gfortran -fPIC "$@"
 }}}

 I've never found that an issue with any package in Sage, but when I tried
 to use an identical script for gcc and g++, I found problems which got
 resolved when I quoted the end of the line. You could try manually editing
 the script, putting a couple of quotation marks and seeing if that helps.

 This is very puzzling, but it is 1:25 AM here, and time I hit the bed.

 John, do you think the changing of the Fortran settings in these packages
 has caused the problem on OS X?

 Dave
