I've attached to clean this up a bit more. If a reviewer wants further
changes, please make a reviewer patch, as I have more pressing things to
do. I've done most of the changes suggested.
I've set this to build in parallel. It does not make a huge difference to
the install time, changing from 14 seconds to 6 seconds on my machine.
Shaving off 8 seconds is not a huge gain,

I've tested the parallel builds 100 times on !OpenSolaris, but not on any
other platform.
