Here is another innocent-looking detail that could have some impact: When
many categories are created, it is essential that they are quickly
initialised. By default, their name is determined from the type name at
initialisation time - and that is costly.
The name should only be computed when needed - that calls for a lazy
attribute. If a name is given explicitly, the name can still be
overridden.
