implementation: it does a depth first search rather than a breath first.
OK. I think #8878 would involve a considerable amount of work. So, for
simplicity, I suggest to fix the cache bug in the current implementation
of depth first search ''here''. And if in future someone will tackle
#8878, he/she should do so on top of that fix.
