And Hello Albert! Havent forgotten you nor the others. Sorry didnt phone
you but was really pressed for time, 8 days is not enough to finish all the
odd jobs waiting for us after one year being outside Goa but I did manage to
complete most of them, thank goodness.
Well, I'm at my office desk today, just returned from India after a two
weeks hectic trip to Bangalore & Goa. Missed meeting Rico though I passed
by his house almost every day,... he was out of Goa. Met Muriel, Sanjeev &
other Saliganvkars including Fr. Nasciment who visited me just before I left
for the airport. He had come to Saligao for funeral of Mr. Remedious
(Effie's Dad or for those who dont know her, the late Nurse Emmie's Dad).
As Albert writes.... there is no change in Saligao roads, & traffic is
horrendous but that is everywhere...(Albert, you must have seen that in
Bangalore too when you visited Arlette... it wasnt that bad 3 years ago, but
has got worse now). However roads in other parts of Goa are quite ok when
compared to previous years. I dont want to grumble but it is a sad fact
that the only road in Saligao that has not been seen to nor tarred is the
one leading upto my house - we are talking about donkey's years here, when
people visited us for votes & made promises that were never kept - que sera,
sera! The road (if one can call it that) is rutty, potholed, bumpy, lumpy,
muddy, dusty, sluiced off, etc. Anyway, this road is history, it has been
kept in that state... a sort of a monument to the past?....perhaps for
future generations to know how we lived before roads like ChogM etc. came
into being.... so maybe I should be proud of that road in Donvaddo where I
stay, Donvaddo goes down in history books - ummm! Fr. Nasciment! please dont
forget to include it in your next book - let people know so that they can
come & have a look at it & take a few pictures etc. Wish I had thought of it
before, would have got Mel D'Souza to do that & include it in his transcript
before he submitted it for printing. Wonder if his book has been printed yet
as he did send me mail that he was back in Canada first week of January.
From what Luwell & I noted, the tourists have arrived in hordes & are
everywhere, so business is booming for the hotels & restaurants, for
rent-backs etc.... dont know about others...Baga was full of foreigners...

educated, rich, intelligent
How right! Arent we all proud then ? of being educated & intelligent? Dont
know about rich as have no idea about the bank balances anyway.....
and the village needs to be converted into a city
No, we dont need that conversion at all, but who knows????
but when I enter the village of saligao I find the roads narrow, and the
traffic is zooming up and >down and I am not sure whether; I will return
back to my home complete or without bones.
Oh oh! at least I have company then, always feel that my knees will be taken
off by the vehicles zooming past on either side of me - he he!. The others
think I'm joking & laugh. I feel safer sitting/standing in a bus.
turning right, there are drivers with one hand on the mobile and other hand
on the steering while there are others who drive left but look right.
Hey! is this true? But as I was told & given to understand by one of the
drivers, one is fined Rs500/- on the spot if one is caught driving & talking
on the mobile at the same time.....(He had to pay the fine!) But then I
guess there arent enough people to check on this!!!!!
Who is supposed to see that everything is working ok ?
Nobody? Just continue as one means to go on???
Have a nice day all of you, & a good weekend! Albert, dont go to Saligao
this weekend, just relax at your home in Mapusa & take care of yourself
including your bones. Mine are intact so far, though I do feel a few twinges
in my back after a bumpitty ride over the Mandovi bridges. Anyway I'm back
to travelling in cars & on smoother & wider roads, so hopefully the twinges
of pain will pass off after a few more exercises.
