Well frankly I admit that the current package contains a bit too much for me already and I'd split it already into several packages instead of bundling even more into it. Still, if it were for something "mission critical" I'd agree with you but just for design, hm, rather not. Probably its possible to build with png if the lib is there and without if not? Something like the usual dep-checking ./configure is meant to do.
