Hi, all. I'm Shannon from New York. Some of you probably know me from other lists. I enjoy games of all kinds, but my current passion is RPG's and strategy games. I've played the Storm8 games for IOS devices, and have recently discovered Uken Games, also for IOS. King of Dragon Pass is also quite awesome, although I've only managed to win it once. (Smile) I'm wondering if anyone can recommend any other IOS or Mac-based games that I might enjoy. Happy gaming, all. [Audyssey] fairly basic mudding question
Hi, all. I'm sorry to post what might seem like a really silly question, but it's really baffling me. I know that I can type inventory to see what I'm carrying, and look to find out what it's around me, but how can I find out what I'm wearing? I'm playing Alter Aeon, if that makes a difference. Re: [Audyssey] Seeking Information on MUDs
Yay for muds. I'm a huge fan of Aetolia by Iron Realms. Roleplay is heavily encouraged. You can do combat, if you like, but it's a very complex world, and so, it's not necessary just to go around killing things. I do use VIPMud, but I find it has a limitation when it comes to writing long things like in books, journals, and scrolls. I'm trying to figure out a way around this. I'll let you know if I succeed. IPhone mudding is slow for me. I think the client is called TMC, but I'll double check that for you. I know there are still some MUDs out there, but I've always had the impression that these were more combat-oriented games, with a lot less role-playing going on. I have a few questions for those willing to help: Can you recommend good MUDs? Are there any that have a good balance between role-playing and combat? How many users does the typical MUD have at one time? Are there opportunities for building and coding as there were on the MUSH? For combat themed MUDs, is speed a high priority? If so, what is the best client for us to achieve that as blind players? I use JAWS 13, Eloquence and a Braille display .When I was MUSHing, I used SimpleMU, which worked well. I was able to code it to do some cool things, and tinker with JAWS to make it read well. I think I saw some references to VIPMud. Is it better for Mudding? Are there MUD clients that will work on the iPhone, and what are their pluses and minuses? If I play on the iPhone, I will certainly want to use the Braille display for input. Is this likely to pose a problem? That's probably enough to get started. Thanks in advance for your help. [Audyssey] help configuring mudder
Hi, all. I've heard a lot of good things about the Mudder client for the Mac. I purchased it this morning, but I don't think I have it set right. I can't get voiceover to stop speaking. It just reads and reads and reads, very slowly, I might add. This doesn't work well in most of the muds I play. So, is there a way to get it to stop reading, and to speed up its rate of speech? Also, are there other helpful settings I might not know about that will make it more accessible with VO? For instance, I don't always see the edit box to put commands into. It seems that, when mudder goes on one of its insane reading binges, that edit box goes away. Is there something I can do to fix this? It looks like it could be a really nice client after a bit of tweaking. Some specifically rp orientated muds I've heard of have been new worlds ateraan, Avatar mud, federation 2 and dark isles, check out the games to play online page at www.whitestick.co.uk for a list to some of their sites. I'm not sure what these games are like, not being an rp fan, but I've heard people often say good things about new worlds ateraan and federation 2 especially. As to clients and speed, well vipmud from www.gmagames.com is probably the best and most accessible client, working automatically with several text output methods, including sapi, window eyes, jaws and system access. it has a very easy to handle interface and facilities for triggers, aliases and full on scripting if you wish, though using it basically is also fine. It's a commercial program, but the free version has little restrictions, indeed the only major restirction I found in the free version is the lack of msp (and not too many muds have sounds anyway, though i did buy the program myself to support gma). the one exception to this rule is alteraeon, sinse I'd strongly advise if you want to play that game using the custom mushclient script designed by oriol gomez that turns the game into virtually an audio rpg. As I said, rp isn't as much my thing, but even in very combat heavy muds there are players who do it, and some muds, like those I've mentioned are very much more rp focused, it's just a case of looking around, reading mud descriptions and finding ones you like. hth. Hi. As people will know, my Iphone is turning up this afternoon. I think I know what I am doing with setup and such, but I would be interested in people's recommendations for games. the thing that taught me most about using supernova particularly on the net, was actually playing games like Legend of the green dragon and ashes of angels. i suspect vo is the same, and I do know there is a learning curve, however to make learning a little more pleasant and give me some incentive, are there games people could recommend with a fairly simple interface? king of dragon pass looks amazing, and I really look forward to trying it, however the fact that it seems to take a little bit of wangling to play probably doesn't make it ideal as a first game for vo practice. how about silver sword? how about gamebooks? is the lost cities card game relatively straight forward in terms of controls? I know there is a training area, but as I've found in the past nothing is better for learning than just rolling up my sleeves and doing, and nothing is more fun to do on a computer than play games! so, I'd very much appreciate people's suggestions and thoughts here. I did! load up safari during my play with an Iphone and attempt to brouse audiogames.net, but that didn't go exactly smoothly. Thank you so much for sharing this. It sounds very awesome, and I definitely think I'll try it out. Shannon On Sep 22, 2013, at 7:46 AM, Phil Vlasak phi...@bex.net wrote: Freeq FREEQ is an audio adventure game for iPhone and android mobile devices $4.99 USD by Psychic Bunny An audio adventure game that gives you the amazing ability to tune in to phone calls and radio signals from the past or future. You can essentially travel through time and change the world. After a major disaster, there's only one society left on Earth. You can use your powerful tool to tune in to their dramatic conversations about affairs, arguments, experiments, and more. This is nothing like the games you're used to playing on your iPhone. There are plenty of instructions to read through before you get started. I do actually recommend reading them all so you don't find things confusing once you start searching for signals to hijack. Hijacking a phone line is done in two stages. The first involves tilting your phone until you find a signal and the second involves a switchboard where you have to decide who to connect with. If you don't make your decision quickly enough, you'll lose your signal and end up back at the first stage. The story you end up being a part of depends on who you connect with and when you make make the connections. It's worth listening to the conversations carefully so you can decide on what connections to make next. Every conversation you create will give you more clues about what actually caused the world to end. The actual process of finding signals and hijacking conversations is quite repetitive. This app is entertaining because of the stories. The fact that some people know that you're listening to their conversations makes it even more interesting. After listening to a few phone calls, you'll really want to know how the story ends and what happens to the characters involved. If you're the type who enjoys interactive stories and radio shows, you'll love FREEQ. It's also worth checking out if you're getting bored with normal iPhone games and want to try something completely different. Version 1.2 Accessibility Update! FREEQ is now usable for blind and low-vision players. Audio instructions are in-game for further information. It has an accessibility mode that uses voiceover like jestures, that being flick and double tap. To activate it, you put your thumb and finger together then slide them both away from each other, like the opposite of a pinch in smack me. This is the card you have to place other cars on. the object of the game is to use all the cards. So, let's say the foundation card is an 8. Look through the cards that say exposed and if you have a 9 or a 7 double tap and the card will go on top of the 8. The new card is now your foundation card. So let's say it was a 9. Now you can put a 10 or 8 on the 9. Once you have made all possible plays draw another card from the pack. I tried connecting with MushClient, and I appeared to connect to the server, as I didn't get an error. I used port 23, as was mentioned on the main site. But I thought typing new would starrt the process of making a new char. Apparently not. Of course, maybe since I always use Mush-Z to play Alter Aeon, it's interfering with the process somehow? It doesn't automatically read things like it does when i'm playing Alter; I have to keep alt tabbing back and forth to get it to read the lines. I've recently begun playing one called ancient anguish. It's a medieval, fantasy-themed game with classes such as adventurer, mage, clerick, shapeshifter, and a couple more. It's quite good. I'm not Dark, but exploring can get you quite a bit of cargo which is worth a lot of money. So, while you have to beware of pirates while you're carrying such cargo, it's worth it, IMO. Looting ships works very much the same way that exploring, harvesting, or indeed trading do. When you hit the loot cargo button you will be presented with a list of cargo types. flicking through them you'll find something like Water-fuel 10 0, Lux food 5 0, crystals 0 6 etc. Each of the names of the goods such as water-fuel or crystals is a button to click on, and the two numbers after refer to what is in your ship's hold and what is available to take. Just so long as you remember the first number after each button as you flick through is the quantity in your hold and the second is the amount you can take you should be fine. To actually do the looting, it's very similar to buying stuff. You hit the button and then have a screen with the numbers in hold and available, and a slider, this is where what I was saying earlier about the sliders comes into play. set the slider to %100, you grab everything, set it to %0, you drop everything. So if you have 6 lux food in your ship and there is 4 available to take the slider will start at %60 since you currently have %60 of the available amount. bang it up to %100 to grab the other four. the only other thing to note is that sometimes, when you have four or less of a given good available, simply flicking up and down the slider won't do it. In these situations you need to double tap on the slider and then slide your finger across the screen. Go all the way right to set to %100, or all the way left to set to %0. Actually I've taken to using the double tap and slide method myself regularly, since it is a far quicker way to instantly set a slider to one end or the other and most of the time I want to take everything or sell everything. Btw, the fastest way of looting is to simply have more space in your ship's cargo hold than the max available lootable cargo, then you can just hit the take max button to grab the lot, though this only shows up when looting ships and not when exploring or harvesting unfortunately. Thank you so much. This makes a lot of sense. Shannon On Jan 29, 2014, at 7:34 PM, dark d...@xgam.org wrote: Hi shanon. The reason your having issues with the doctor I suspect is due to a miner point about how the sliders in the game work that also threw me at first, but once you get it it's quite logical. Basically the way you buy anything in the game is with the slider. %100 means transer as much as possible to you, %0 means sell the lot. So, if you've got 3 Metals in your hold and there are 3 standing at the dock, the slider will begin at %%50, if you want to buy the three from the dock you put it up, if you want to sell your 3 you put it down. When there are more than five items to sell, ie, the slider has more than five positions, you can just flick it, but as you've probably found when there's only say one position you can't. For example if you've got one unit of health to recover from the doctor the slider can only be at %0 or %100. In actual fact however, the slider is a long control that goes left to right horizontally right across the display, so all you need to do to select it is double tap and hold then swipe your finger right across the display, right if you want to go up, and left if you want to go down, (just bare in mind you have to swipe quite a long distance across the screen for it to work). This probably sounds very clunky when I explain it like this, but once I got the knack myself I now find I use the double tap and slide left or right method instead of flicking even with larger sliders since it's much quicker. Hope this makes sense. As regards the ships, some I believe are unlocks, and it's possible that some are either faction or profession specific but I'm not %100 certain on that as i haven't messed about with the different ship types that much yet. One advantage though is if they're porting to Ios directly they can fix access at the same time, which also makes fixing star traders access a good investment and is another reason it'd be good if people could 5 star rate the game too to give them some encouragement and let them know Vi users would like games like this accessible, since while there are! Vi users of android, there are far more on Iphone (lets not get into the debate as to why or wherefore just acept that is the current state of play), so there is more potential exposure for a developer in access for Iphone games, especially Rpgs. Btw, the fastest way of looting is to simply have more space in your ship's cargo hold than the max available lootable cargo, then you can just hit the take max button to grab the lot, though this only shows up when looting

Just a note about rerolling. When you reroll, you lose the skills you previously learned. So, I chose ranger the first time. I learned survival, exploration, primative weapons, and research. Now, I rerolled and chose fabricator. I've learned all of the exploration skills, and some of the crafting skills. I definitely want the two research skills you mentioned, and probably primitive assembly. I.E. scattered clumps of fist-sized crystals mean ceramic geode, and there's other descriptions that indicate other extractable resources. Also, it does help to explore (though it takes forever) and discover, because I found a few extractable resources via discover that weren't initially in the room description. I'm a like Dark in the playing here, I much prefer to be left alone to explore, and do my own thing, but if anyone really wants to contact me on game, I'm wired, and my settlement is on MC-1954, though I won't say where, since I have heavy turret guns active on all my building plots, and I'd hate to have folks get blasted away when trying to pay a friendly visit. :) Anyway, I like the job system, though it's difficult (most of the time) to determine what you should be doing to complete the jobs, it's still fun to try to figure it all out. I strongly recomend everyone who plays, grab a piece of real estate for yourself, and build your first shelter as soon as you can, since with each thing you do on the mud, it opens up more options for you. Skills are a bit of a crap shoot at first, until you get the hang of things, but I recomend basic medical first aid, then don't train anything else in that skill group, because this will help you tend your wounds if you get any while building your settlement. Then, learn the whole survival group, as these will let you carry more things, and generally survive the rigors of colonizing better. Once you're done with those, learn the whole exploration group, since this permits additional jobs, and helps you find useful materials for building your settlement and other items. After that, primative assembly is helpful, because it gives you bonuses when building items (and there's a *lot* of items to build). Then, on primative weapons, only the knows which end hurts people is necessary, unless you actually want to engauge in pvp (which I'm trying hard to avoid), and on the science skillset, you'll want to get lab operation and research focus. With those skills, (and you can learn them in whatever order you need them) you will have everything you need to get through the first phase of colonization, and work through to the point when you can reroll and get more skillsets and more skill points. These skills will take all of the initial 2500 points you get, but in my opinion provide the most benefit on planet, at least for starting out. I didn't select ranger as Dark did, but you can still get the job to kill 75 little critters, and make money doing it. :) I had less than 300 dollars when I landed on planet, and now I'm up to nearly 6K, and it's all from discoveries, building, and job completion. I'm still trying to figure out the whole civilian population thing, though I know it's related to kinds/number of buildings in your settlement, though defenses don't seem to add to either your jobs, civilian population, or money earned, but I'd rather have them than not. There are tons of crafting tools (basic, structure, advanced structure, component, ...) you get the idea. Each one builds different things, and you're likely to need something from each one before you're done with your settlement. One word of warning. I've not figured out how (if it's even possible) to stop resource extraction (they call it harvesting) so don't do what I did, and begin harvesting plant fiber while in the ocean without some sort of method of breathing. I drowned, and had to respawn and start my processing all over again. It seems that when you harvest items, the harvester will continue running either until the item runs out, or your inventory is full. I've found it useful to keep my inventory mostly full, especially when woking in ocean realms, as I still don't have breathing aparatus, so that I don't spend inordinately long times harvesting ocean realms. Trust me, it's not fun to know you're dying, and can't do a thing about it. The harvesters can be configured to only get one kind of resource if you need it bad enough, but generally I just let them harvest what they can find, as it adds to my stockpiles. Re: [Audyssey] Star Trader Questions
Hi, Christina. When the game first starts, you need to hit the start button next to where you see dock and land. That will take you to your first planet, where you then need to fulfill a contract by duble tapping whichever place is starred. You can buy supplies from any planet that has an exchange. The same is true for recruiting crew. You do that at any planet's Spice Hall. You can only recruit crew if you have less than the number your ship can hold. I hope that helps. Feel free to email me if you have other questions. I've been playing it for a bit now. Shannon On Apr 24, 2014, at 5:30 PM, Christina greensleev...@wind-haven.net wrote: Hello. Re: [Audyssey] Iron realms munds
I'm a huge Aetolia fan. It's a fairly dark mud, very heavy into RP. PVP is not allowed, except in certain, very specific situations. Aetolia has a path system that makes navigating its huge world quite easy, especially if you can't see the map. I've looked some at Lusternia, but haven't done enough with it to comment much. Aschia was really confusing for me, because it seemed to require map usage, without the patching present in Aetolia. Hopefully, this answers your question. Let me know if I can provide further info. Shannon On Aug 11, 2014, at 6:06 PM, dark d...@xgam.org wrote: Hi. A discussion on audiogames.net about muds generally lead to questions about the iron realms games sinse one chap there had played Achaea. I have checked their sites but have been slightly hesistant due to not hearing some good things about them.and not being sure if they had any vi customizations for low spam etc, though according to the user on audiogames.net they did which is why I'm asking this question. First, has anyone tried their games? what are they like? Then, what is the difference between them? Their websites are a little hard to fathom sinse it seems from the descriptions the games all involve similar elements, but place different emphasis on them. Achaea seems most about roleplay, Imperion seems heavy on pvp and politics, Lusternia from what I gather is the game for puzzles and questing and etolia is exploration, though also lists limitless advancement, so I'm not really sure how those two differ. If anyone has played these I'd appreciate hearing opinions, especially from anyone who has played multiple games. all the best, Dark. --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. Re: [Audyssey] Aetolia
Aetolia is pretty heavy into RP. You have to join a guild, and each guild has requirements you must meet in order to advance. A certain amount of RP is necessary. There is an option you can set in the beginning that modifies the way text is read for people who use screen readers. Due to the guilds, it's not the best game for solo exploration. Your ability to hunt, for example, varies depending upon which guild you joined. So, vampires bite, necromancers decay, etc. Shannon On Aug 13, 2014, at 1:58 PM, dark d...@xgam.org wrote: Hi Joshua. Re: [Audyssey] Aetolia
Different guilds have different requirements. My current guild has no exam like the one you're describing, but the RP is definitely enforced. Re: [Audyssey] Does anyone play Avalon mud?
I like Avalon a lot. I’ve not known of any screen reader specific settings. Navigating the areas can be difficult, since the map is not accessible, but if you keep a file of directions to certain places, that works well. There are a wide variety of professions to choose from. It’s pretty RP intensive. Questing is a big part of the MUD, as it’s one major way to gain experience.
