That shows faad.exe is OK. It looks like your problem is not caused by the "usual" sources. Since the "illstreet48.pls" also fails - it indicates the problem is in the SC transcoding which involves faad.exe but it is not clear why it is failing. I believe a QNAP should be able to play AAC streams provided 1. The faad is built using the fixed point option 2. the AAC streams are played as PCM and not transcoded into MP3 or FLAC I believe The Sheevaplug processor has no floating point which will mean that any transcoding into MP3 or Flac could be a significant load and may not deliver the performance you expect (e.g. may be able to handle one player but not multiple) faad, flac and lame should be benchmarked to see whether they can do encoding/decoding in realtime. -- bpa bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=69588 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

So in WebUI Settings/Advanced/FileTypes disable AAC->MP3 and AAC->Flac and then see if the stream plays. -- bpa bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=69588 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

You have done a wonderful thing. With your tiny niche AlienBBC application you have moved the mountain of BBC bureaucracy to defy the pressures of the current paranoic proprietary commercial music culture and give people what they deserve: access to that for which they have already paid. For UK residents and tax payers it gives them huge payback on their taxes. For the rest of the world it is a wonderful vehicle for showing the world just what a wonderful culture the UK are. (Which, of course is the basis on which the BBC were founded.) So you have moved the mountain. Thank you. Well done. I am quite confident that the extension of the BBC iPlayer to SqueezeNet would not have happened but for AlienBBC giving people what they want. So now you can rest. For a while. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] AlienBBC vs BBCiPlayer plugins
Just added BB iPlayer to the set-up detailed below, and it seems to work pretty well. Comments: a) iPlayer seems to have solved the constant rebuffering that I have been getting using Alien to play live streams. b) iPlayer output is definitely a notch quieter than the Alien equivalent. c) I'm sometimes getting oddities in getting iPlayer audio (Live, or Listen Again) to start up. If I want to play direct from the iPlayer menu, I now usually have to go right to the very furthest menu item to get the Play icon to work. (eg, the Play icon alongside "BBC Radio 7" under Home > BBC iPlayer > Listen Live *doesn't* start the audio. I need to go one level further to Home > BBC iPlayer > Listen Live > BBC Radio 7 (where the logo and URL appear) to get the Play icon to work). Also, I save all my live radio streams as playlists (indeed my Playlist folder is called "Radio", and has only my radio faves in it): sometimes the Play icon under playlists works, sometimes it doesn't.. d) The change in Alarm behavior is very annoying - but I'm going to raise that in a separate thread. -- agbagb AGB SqueezeCenter Version: 7.3.3 - 27044 (was: 7.3.2 - 24695) under Vista. 2 x SB3s, wireless, usually in sync. I'm at a loss. AAC support on Linux was not standard in 7.3.2 so something has been added to your system which is non standard but enabled AAC support. SSOTS is a special build of SC with a lots of things added and changed to suit the QNAP systems. To stream BBC in AAC you need a special version of faad and I don't think your setup has it - even if you move to 7.3.3 I could still not be sure about what changes SSOTS has made. If you are in the UK - then it may be possible to use MP3 instead of AAC for Listen Again. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] AlienBBC vs BBCiPlayer plugins
The"failed to parse" message is usually associated with network problem and the inability to get the program info from BBC. Sometime caused by security s/w other time by network timeout. What OS are you using ? If Windows what security s/w ? Does the problem happen if security s/w is uninstalled (disbaling is usually not sufficient). "Listen Again" has never been available on SN so there is no change in Functionality. On SN when a station is shown - it is always the live stream. This is the way it has always been - no change. On SN/MySB.com if you have problem playing the BBC live feeds - try the RadioFeed UKs APP - it has more up to date URLs for BBC. -- bpa bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=69588 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

That SOMAfm stream is 48k - the BBC streams are typically 128k for UK listeners so your system may mot be able to handle transcoding the higher speed better quality Flash / AAC. You didn't say what sort of player you but assuming you do not have an SB1 or older, then you could try disabling the AAC preference in BBCiPlayer settings. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] AlienBBC vs BBCiPlayer plugins
Some changes are needed to AlienBBC as BBC have stopped some RealAudio and the version no needs to be updated for 7.4.1. The "categories" issues is a limitation placed by BBC I have an idea which may provide a similar feature for BBCiPlayer but putting effort into maintaining AlienBBC means new features have to be delayed. AlienBBC has more programs because the Web pages tend to be conservative and show about programs for about 8 days whereas BBCiPlayer uses an XML feed which imposes a very strict 7 days limit and also is a bit slower in makeing programs available. If you are in the UK then rebuffering is probably because you are getting higher speed streams - some non UK streams are also high speed than RealAudio such as local radio. If you are outside the UK then rebuffering should not happen with "Listen again" - it could be a server or local network issue but it is worth checking. -- bpa bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=69588 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

I updated to 7.4.1 and AlienBBC beta for 7.4 has been removed. I added the AlienBBC repository http://alienbbc.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/testrepo.xml, but no plugins are listed. Now I can't reinstall it. I prefer AlienBBC to BBCiPlayer. AlienBBC included a 'categories' section for finding programs, and seemed to have a bigger archive than BBCiPlayer does. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] AlienBBC vs BBCiPlayer plugins
The better Favorite handling will go away when BBC stop RealAudio streams in March 2010 - the real solution is to fix SBS alarm handling of streams. If you want to wake up to live BBC streams - I suggest using the WMA streams. It is the intention to create two Plugins - one for RealAudio support (still used by RAI Italy and RTE Ireland) and another for WMA support for older players on Linux and OSX. These plugins will therefore just provide audio format support - no station handling. The user will use Tune-in and favorites to play the streams / files. -- bpa bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=69588 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins
Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] AlienBBC vs BBCiPlayer plugins
Alien seems to have better "Favourite" handling of streams, especially with alarms. The only other reason I'd like to keep the Alien functionality over iPlayer these days is that occasionally I encounter other real audio streams and I believe Alien is the only way to play these on my SqueezeBoxes. Do shout if I've got this wrong!! Real Player seems to be in terminal decline so presumably this will become less of an issue over time. -- knigma knigma's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1054 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=69588 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins
Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] AlienBBC vs BBCiPlayer plugins
The BBC create the Web pages from the schedule info and so the assigned program id are usually known when Web page are available so AlienBBC knows a program id even before the program is broadcast and so it can start playing it as soon as the program file has been created. BBCiPlayer uses the XML feed which is only updated a few times a days (I feel it is about every 3 hrs). The issue is not RealAudio vs Flash/AAC etc. but the source of program id. AlienBBC could use the id to get the Flash/AAC or WMA streams instead of RealAudio. AlienBBC is slower to display menus (i.e. uses more CPU and more network GETs) and from a maintenance point of view needs more effort to keep up to date as the web pages changes often. -- bpa bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=69588 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Since the BBC has announced they will be stopping RealAudio streams by 30 March 2010 (with the exception of World Service) - BBCiPlayer is the preferred plugin for users of BBC and as such AlienBBC has been removed from Plugin main list. [SlimDevices: Plugins] AlienBBC vs BBCiPlayer plugins
With the advent of 7.4 and the changes to BBC stream availablity we would like to migrate users to the BBCiPlayer plugin for BBC content. To support this, I have removed AlienBBC from the recommended 3rd Party repository for the moment. The current version does not actually support 7.4 and the latest streams fully and so is generating support questions which are best answered by asking users to switch to BBCiPlayer. Alien is still needed to support Real Audio on any Squeezebox or WMA on Squeezeboxes which do not support this. We will update Alien and perhaps produce a separate WMA plugin to support this. At this point we will return it to the recommended lists if requested. Please post any questions below.
