It isn't a problem, it is how reading PDF files in Adobe Reader has always
worked.
If you want the visual page to coincide with what you are hearing, you need to
switch to read only visible pages and use control-page up and control-page down.
In Adobe Reader; Control-k for preferences, Press R in the tree until you get

When you are reading the entire document and you press page up and down you are
moving the browse mode pointer 24 lines in the browse mode buffer.

Hi Steve:
First, For me clicking the Reinstate link in the e-mail telling me my
account had been disable seemed to work.
That said, it is risky to ever click on anything inside a e-mail message
unless you are 100 percent sure who the sender was.
Financial institutions include enough partial information in such a e-mail
to ensure it is related to the actual sender and your account to avoid bad
guys from spoofing, fishing or even trying to impart a virus on your machine
in their name.
After talking on list I was pretty sure the message was from AI Squared so
did that after having tried to do it via the Website which I couldn't get to
work - at least not quickly.
Next, there is a process where the providers like Comcast, Brighthouse, Yahoo
and most others will ping back any messages sent to them to see if it was
sent from a valid, active, e-mail address and this, I think, is a part of
the DKIM standards put in place and adopted since think around 2005.
If a valid return is not received they will bounce back the message to your
provider, usually also sending it through to the end point but sometimes
flagging it as spam, sometimes not before it gets to the endpoint client.
Your providers Mailman will get the postbacks, bounces, as a warning that
there was a potential security issue with the message sent from your Mailman
server and check the settings to see how to handle them.
Unless setup to handle these bounces your providers Mailman will increment
a counter depending on the bounceback level, hard or soft, for the person
who tried to send the message through the providers Mailman server.
If Mailman is configured to disable an account after a certain number of
bounces your client will then be automatically disabled when that threshold
has been reached.
The bouncebacks your Mailman Provider is getting is thus likely due to the
fact it is not setup to handle the ping backs, security tests, that the big
providers use, gets their bounces even if they send the message through to
the end user marked as spam, not marked as spam or the big provider might
not even send it through but they all will generate a bounce back to your
Mailman Provider if Mailman and your Host Provider are not setup properly.
Of course, without having access to your providers hardware and software
there is no way for me to either verify this nor fix it.
This is what several folks have told me they have encountered in the past
and others have told me the same thing and to look into the Domain thingy -
I forget exactly what it is called but think the acronym was DKIM.This is
not in my programming wheelhouse so I had to dig to find out what may be
going on via the symptoms reported by everyone.
It is a standard all the big e-mail host providers agreed to use from what I
remember about that article I posted here much like the w3c standards or iso
standards with a governing body and all that jazz.
I know you are a pretty good programmer so take a look at things, Mailman
Documentation and see what it says about bouncebacks and automatic removel
of clients and settings, then read up on the DKIM thing, I will go find the
actual name if you get stuck but the document was in one of my prior
postings.
If this is not the problem let me know so I wont be barking up the wrong
tree.
I wont get mad or hurt feelings, I just want to get the job done.
Your fault, my fault, nobodys fault - just get it done is my philosophy.
This may mean tweaking the software or even finding a new provider but many
of us are on several other high traffic lists and don't have these problems.
One other thing to look at not mentioned is that someone may have put your
lists on a BlackList which some of the list providers look at - remember
that hacker who didn't seem to like you guys?
So you might peek at them to ensure your lists are not being black listed
before stranggling your list provider.
That's all I have unless there is anything I can look up or ask folks who
actually know about this stuff, I don't know much myself but enough to ask
questions that usually get answered by the folks I need to talk to.

RE: got cut off again for bounces. Please set me up again.

2015-08-29 Thread Rick Thomas via Talk
Hi Steve, responding to your initial analysis with some suggestions:
Well, it is only sort of the provider since this doesn't happen to everyone.
Have you checked the Mailman Log Files to ensure it isnt happening to everyone?
If so what are the messages about why you were getting bounce backs - either
you should have access to these logs or your list provider should supply them
upon request.
Also, perhaps certain messages may pass a security check based on where they
are sent from originally and where the major network host checks for compliance.
This is, of course, if such logs are produced by the Mailman software but I
should guess logs are produced since this is a major piece of software.

It is also the email server that receives email that is taking a broader
approach to limiting spam. If that were not the case, this would be happening
to more of us.
Until you check the logs and, or, verify exactly where and why messages are
getting flagged as spam with your list provider you can not make this
assumption for sure.
Yes, some individual hosts may bounce back messages if flagged as spam or they
might flag them as spam but then everyone on these lists would be notified of
this since the messages would end up in their spam folder.
When this happens we have to ask why and where the list messages are being
flagged as spam.
Could be the list is not recognized until a member clicks to allow list
messages to come through as a normal process of their account setup.
Could be that the big network has flagged the message as spam, per my prior
discussion, and passed it through to the individuals host who then puts it into
the spam folder.
This said, my messages are never marked as spam and never, nothing, is placed
in my spam folder on my computer nor on the Road Runner / Brighthouse internet
account management platform.
Yet, I got bounced indicating the problem is that my messages are both getting
bounced back to your provider and being sent through to me without being
flagged as spam and passed through my Road Runner / Brighthouse account as not
being spam.
This indicates that the answers I have received from several folks who have
managed lists using Mailman may indeed fit the description of the problem more
accurately.
In any case, you guys are working on the problem and my first suggestion would
be to see if you can get access to the Mailman logs for your accounts.
Also, check to ensure your provider is handling the DKIM, whatever that Domain
Security stuff is, and, or, has Mailman setup not to deactivate your client
accounts because of bounce back counts if they want to use some other security
methodology.
These are only suggestions and I am beginning to feel like I am beating a dead
hourse and there are a couple of folks on list who are complaining about this
thread so I am out but you can contact me off list if you want or if there is
anything I can do to help with testing etc...
You have my e-mail address on file so I wont post it here for GOD and the World.
Later and have a good weekend indeed!

When a bounce back is generated it will only send one per day no matter how

I have no spam filters on my provider, Brighthouse, and I get all talk list
messages never marked as spam yet was disabled due to too many bounce backs.
There are never any spam items in my online, internet, account folder on Road
Runner / Brighthouse so I know they are not marking talk messages they pass
through as spam, I hit the Outlook delete allot but it gives me a view into
what is going on so I leavve it setup that way.
The problem may indeed be something else but then what?
Many other lists I am on never have this problem and only the WindowEyes lists
are having this problem so something is diferent with the plumbing between
their list providers and your list provider.
As an old pro I would think you would throw a red flag in the direction of your
list provider me thinks unless something else could be identified as singling
your lists out as spam .
When millions of other lists don’t have a problem and only one has a problem
with the way Yahoo, Comcast, Road Runner, Brighthouse and others are working
some standard operations and want to work within their guidelines you have to
ask as we did with Big Bird, which of these things are not like the others.
I don’t know but as an old Analyst, it sure would be the first direction I
would look in for an answer.
I will assume you have already checked the black lists out there to ensure you
are not on them.
That just leaves some technical issue and since I don’t see the huge
multi-nationals black listing you because why? You are a tiny list about
accessibility?
Your list provider and your messages should be handled just like all other
lists from other mail list providers but for some reason this is not the case.
I still don’t understand fully how settings at say my end where I have no spam
filters set could be causing bouncebacks when my e-mail provider is not even
labeling them as spam in the first place.
It is more likely there is a problem with your list provider and the big
network guys and in particular with some settings on your provider.
I could indeed be wrong but I have heard no other detailed explanation of what
is going on that makes sense given the analysis of the available facts and data
info.
Hammer me on the head if I am missing something - no problem, lets just get it
fixed - that is always my goal as a Programmer or Analyst and knowing you and
others there this likely is the same bottom line.

2015-08-29 Thread Steve Jacobson via Talk
Rick,

Let's take this off the list after this. Since you replied on the list, let me
only say that the list where I had similar bouncing trouble was not a list I
controlled. In the case where my address was blocked, I did go to my provider
who got it resolved, but the solution was getting it unblocked by the system
receiving my email. In other words, a broad policy invoked by the receiving
service was the cause, and in the end, they had to make the change, not my
provider, but I and my provider had to spend the time proving we were not
spammers and succeeded in the end. While you say millions of lists don't have

RE: Anyone heard from AI Squared about their e-list problems and the detailed postings about potential causes and resolutions

2015-08-29 Thread Steve Jacobson via Talk
Rick,

Since this topic is not all that relevant since it is being worked on, I
just want to say that I would never advocate someone click on a link within
an email. A link can say one thing and do something completely different.
This is less true, though, when you reply to an email. It is good to
double-check the address in the TO field of the message to which you are
replying, but addresses in the to field are pretty much what they say they
are. If a link within a message said Click here to confirm, one should
never do that. The mailman confirmations I have seen, though, don't do
that. I will write more to you off list.

Best regards,

Steve Jacobson

Subject: RE: Anyone heard from AI Squared about their e-list problems and
the detailed postings about potential causes and resolutions

That's all I have unless there is anything I can look up or ask folks who
actually know

Re: Rolled Back To Windows 7

2015-08-29 Thread net bat via Talk
I have never had good results with a in place install. any old problems will be
carried over to the new windows version because it keeps the old registry
settings.
but with windows 10, once you have done the in place install it will be
automatically activated with microsoft. then you can do a clean install.
what I did was, while still running windows 10 is to use a system reset instead.
this also reinstalleds windows with the choice to keep your personal files or
save nothing.
both ways you still get a clean registry and a reinstallation of windows and
the default apps.
both ways will erase the previously installed apps you installed after windows
was installed.
I kept my personal files.
it keeps the desktop icons and personal folders you created. but not the
programs.
and it kept all my personal installation program files so I could reinstall
again.
it kept the folders where I have the shareware and commercial programs I have
to install.
I use a folder called installations. with sub folders for each program.
I copy all my installation cd’s there so even if I lose the cd’s I will still
be able to re install them.
w e, openbook, text aloud, goldwave, printer drivers etc. are all there. and on
carbonite on line backup.
**
the setup part of your programs are not speech friendly at all with windows 10.
many controls and instructions will not speak without using the mouse. even
setup programs that have full speech when installing them with windows 7.

Hi Pastor,

I had the same problem with the startmenu as you had.
Today I have installed win10 again over my old windows. This time I have

Currently only window-eyes, a password manager and becky mail are
installed, but Window-Eyes is reading the startmenu as aspected.

Hi Again Steve - responding to prior posting as I go through my
 e-mails.
When a bounce back is generated it will only send one per day
no matter how many messages are sent out by a particular
account and then that may increment the Mailman bounce
 counter by .5 or .1.
If you post allot to the list you are more likely to trigger the
limit, post less and you wont trigger the limit.
I have no spam filters on my provider, Brighthouse, and I get
all talk list messages never marked as spam yet was disabled
due to too many bounce backs.
There are never any spam items in my online, internet,
account folder on Road Runner / Brighthouse so I know they
are not marking talk messages they pass through as spam, I hit
the Outlook delete allot but it gives me a view into what is
going on so I leavve it setup that way.
The problem may indeed be something else but then what?
Many other lists I am on never have this problem and only the
WindowEyes lists are having this problem so something is
diferent with the plumbing between their list providers and
 your list provider.
As an old pro I would think you would throw a red flag in the
direction of your list provider me thinks unless something else
could be identified as singling your lists out as spam .
When millions of other lists don’t have a problem and only
one has a problem with the way Yahoo, Comcast, Road
Runner, Brighthouse and others are working some standard
operations and want to work within their guidelines you have
to ask as we did with Big Bird, which of these things are not
 like the others.
I don’t know but as an old Analyst, it sure would be the first
direction I would look in for an answer.
I will assume you have already checked the black lists out
there to ensure you are not on them.
That just leaves some technical issue and since I don’t see the
huge multi-nationals black listing you because why? You are a
 tiny list about accessibility?
Your list provider and your messages should be handled just
like all other lists from other mail list providers but for some
reason this is not the case.
I still don’t understand fully how settings at say my end where
I have no spam filters set could be causing bouncebacks when
my e-mail provider is not even labeling them as spam in the
 first place.
It is more likely there is a problem with your list provider and
the big network guys and in particular with some settings on
 your provider.
I could indeed be wrong but I have heard no other detailed
explanation of what is going on that makes sense given the
analysis of the available facts and data info.
Hammer me on the head if I am missing something - no
problem, lets just get it fixed - that is always my goal as a
Programmer or Analyst and knowing you and others there this
likely is the same bottom line.

RE: List Problems

2015-08-29 Thread slery via Talk
It is a problem when the bounce report comes to you in your list folder and
it looks like spam because it says confirm 12654ANBI'ELKMBYAIDK

I would never have opened it except after I had not received and list email
for almost a week it showed up in my GW folder.

It is nice to know that you can be dropped off-list when there is nothing
wrong your email but the list is having some kind of problem.

The irony is, that all the people complaining about being
bounced are able to tell us on the list that they have been
bounced, thus being able to post on the list. That is why I
don't consider this problem to be a priority.

Re: Anyone heard from AI Squared about their e-list problems and thedetailed postings about potential causes and resolutions

2015-08-29 Thread Pamela Dominguez via Talk
It was on freelists before. There was some kind of a problem, otherwise,
they wouldn't have changed it. Pam.

Hi Again: Take a look at Free Lists as a e-mail provider.
Messages get put through almost instantly and they seem never to have any
problems.
I don’t know if a company can host a list there or if they have enough
security but a couple of lists I know use them and those lists are very good
for the clients.
You might contact them to see if they can meet your requirements.

What are you saying?
That they are so behind the curve, so sloppy and so inept that they don't
have time to fix one of the most important parts of a company, the public
face of the company ie the e-list and their website?
Is that your stand?

Do you really think, with everything going on, that this should be their
most important priority? So it takes a couple of minutes to subscribe
again, is that really a big deal? That said, I am one of the lucky ones.
