I'm unsure as to why I am receiving this message - I am running 18.04 on

Thanks tho.

[Bug 988509] Re: setoption.pl is not executable

2014-02-17 Thread bingalls
Mario-
What you "must do":
1) Do NOT click on the link in Lehotzky László's post.
2) See if you can report Lehotzky László as a phisher, or a compromised account
3) Tell the admin at autul-amin.my that their website may be compromised

None of us fell for this trick, so we don't know that it is not a virus.
Assuming you use Ubuntu, there are very few viruses for Linux, but JavaScript
could do bad things; mostly, steal your online information (password, credit
card currently in use).
However, it sounds like a robot that is trying to get another account (you) to
enter your password.
If you fell for this, change your password. and any similar passwords.

Warning signs:
autul-amin.my does not have a big reputation.
autul-amin.my has nothing to do with Google docs.
autul-amin.my is not using SSL (https)
Lehotzky László has not contributed much to Launchpad.net

and more; these are ones that are difficult to circumvent

Just branching isn't sufficient. You need to rebuild the package as well.
If you have all the prerequisites installed this should be a matter of running
"debuild" to build the packages and then "debi" to install them.

You probably want to install "samba" instead. The samba4 package in precise is
a pre-release and experimental.

[Bug 988509] Re: setoption.pl is not executable

2013-05-16 Thread castirondude
I'm confused. I chmod +x the setoption.pl and ran "bzr branch
lp:~jelmer/ubuntu/precise/samba4/fix-provisioning"
Output:
""
You have not informed bzr of your Launchpad ID, and you must do this to
write to Launchpad or access private data. See "bzr help launchpad-login".
Most recent Ubuntu Raring version: 4.0.0+dfsg1-1ubuntu1

Packaging branch status: CURRENT
Branched 26 revisions.

""

Ok, so I ran apt-get install again. Now I get this error:
ImportError: /usr/local/lib/libpytalloc-util.so.2: version
`PYTALLOC_UTIL_2.0.6' not found (required by
/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/samba/param.so)

Can you tell us how to recover from this situation?
Should I just completely remove samba4 and start over? Do I use the Ubuntu
libraries or the ones attached to this sighting? I can't believe Canonical
would go on for a year without fixing a blatant failure to install a popular
package on their "long term support" release...??

[Bug 988509] Re: setoption.pl is not executable

2012-12-21 Thread Dave Lentz
@brightjoker89: the bug has been fixed in Ubuntu 12.10 with an updated
version of samba4, so it is marked as Fix Released. However, that fix is
too risky for a stable release (see comment #40), which is why there is
still a task for Ubuntu 12.04/LTS.

[Bug 988509] Re: setoption.pl is not executable

2012-12-20 Thread brightjoker
So the following worked for me: (Ubuntu 12.04)

Purge Samba install:

sudo apt-get remove --purge samba

(If Samba 4 is installed, make sure to sudo apt-get remove --purge
samba4 also.)

Apt Clean:

sudo apt-get autoremove
sudo apt-get autoclean

Update Repos:

sudo apt-get update

Reinstall Samba:

sudo apt-get install samba

Reload Samba configuration:

testparm /etc/samba/smb.conf

I didn't have to, but might also be a good idea to reload the samba services:
sudo services samba restart

This has gotten samba working correctly for me again.

SO TO GET BACK ON TRACK

I just ran the following command after purging my samba install (apt-get remove
--purge samba) and reinstalling (apt-get install samba):
testparm /etc/samba/smb.conf

This has fixed samba for me! Shared folders working correctly again.

[Bug 988509] Re: setoption.pl is not executable

2012-12-20 Thread brightjoker
First, I am running Ubuntu Server, so no GUI.

I updated to new kernel.

Samba4 was installed.

Received the "setoption.pl is not executable" error.

Removed samba4.

Installed samba (apt-get install samba)

When I issue "samba" in terminal, it returns: Samba is not installed,
run "apt-get install samba4".

When I run "apt-get install samba" it says samba IS installed.

The two processes tied to samba are running on my system.

Shared folders do not appear on my LAN.

Hello, I would like to know why this is marked as having a "Fix Release"
when I encountered the exact same error today.

I am running Ubuntu Server 12.04

I can do "apt-get install samba", however whenever I enter "samba" or
"samba -v" into terminal, it says I need to install "samba4".  When I
install samba4, I get the "setoption.pl is not executable" error.p

[Bug 988509] Re: setoption.pl is not executable

2012-12-07 Thread Steve Langasek
Hi Jelmer,

The SRU upload for this has a couple of issues, unfortunately:

 - The .changes file was generated on Debian, not on Ubuntu, so the LP bug
references are missing. We need this to be generated on Ubuntu for the SRU
tracking process to work. I would reupload to fix this myself, except:
 - The switch from setoption.pl to setoption.py does not look like an
SRU-appropriate minimal change for this bug. If there is a reason that the .py
version needs to be used instead of the .pl version, please document that here
in the bug; otherwise, please stick with the .pl implementation and add the
perl-modules dependency instead which AIUI is needed for this script to work.

Also, please update the bugs referenced in the changelog to include the
information required by
.

[Bug 988509] Re: setoption.pl is not executable

2012-11-28 Thread Jelmer Vernooij
Hi Daviey,

It was waiting for approval to land in -proposed for a couple of weeks,
and after that it was rejected (by one of the archive admins, according
to the Launchpad email I received). The e-mail didn't have any
information as to why they rejected it and I didn't hear from any of the
admins. After asking around on IRC a couple of times without result, I
gave up on the SRU. Feel free to pick it up.

This is not fixed in upstream.

When doing an upgrade through synaptic, I get the followiing errors every time:
First Screens Error Message:
E: samba4: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit
status 1

Next screens error message:
ProvisioningError: guess_names: 'realm =' was not specified in supplied

generate it
dpkg: error processing samba4 (--configure):
subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1
Errors were encountered while processing:
 samba4

Note: In my case I had to try installing the unstable samba4 package
because I can't access any shared network resorces on the desktop from
any ones laptop over the local network and this is still the case today.
This was working fine in Oneric before the upgrade to Precise. Note: the
desktop can access shared folders from other computers that are running
older distributions such as 10.04 and 11.04 even with the currently
broken samba problems in Precise.

Question:
1.) How can I upgrade to the samba4 4.0.0~alpha19+dfsg1-7 fix that was released?

Dear Jelmer,

the problem is, that not the stable vesrsion, but samba4 is coming, when
you want to use, or install from software center, for example:

root@lleho-MSI-NOTEBOOK-VR630:/home/lleho# samba restart
The program 'samba' is currently not installed. You can install it by
typing:
apt-get install samba4
root@lleho-MSI-NOTEBOOK-VR630:/home/lleho#

that is, while "some peaple" install it...

[Bug 988509] Re: setoption.pl is not executable

2012-05-22 Thread HenryGR
Thank you all. For me, it happened as a result of upgrading to 12.04. I
uninstalled Samba4 and I'm running Samba with no problems.
Even though not every time I can access Windows based computers. Thanks again.

Re: [Bug 988509] Re: setoption.pl is not executable

2012-05-22 Thread Vasil Krstevski
Hi!

I uninstalled samba4, but Ubuntu 12.04 automatically suggest:

The program 'samba' is currently not installed. You can install it by
typing:
sudo apt-get install samba4

Shouldn't this be fixed in the repositories?

Thanks,
V.

Re: [Bug 988509] Re: setoption.pl is not executable

2012-05-22 Thread Rick
Thanks for the info. If this is the case, it's because Samba4 is either
in the distro of 12.04, or was part of an update download. I know for
sure, that I did not specifically download and install Samba4.

Re: [Bug 988509] Re: setoption.pl is not executable

2012-05-22 Thread Cherry Bomb
I have 12.04 lts installed and since the last batch of updates it's been
running stable with no system errors. Yay! :)

So, I believe this case can be closed out. Thanks for the assistance.

[Bug 988509] Re: setoption.pl is not executable

2012-05-22 Thread Jelmer Vernooij
Unfortunately it looks like Samba4 is accidentally being installed by
some people who are looking for the stable version of Samba (Samba 4 is
still experimental, see the package description). I wonder if this is
the case, and if so, how this is happening?

I'm working on backporting this fix to precise - that seems useful
anyway. Even with that, the server side of Samba 4 is still experimental
and the version in precise will soon be obsolete.
