Hi everyone: Is any one of you using the app, justin.tv? I noticed that within the app categories none of them are being read by voice over. All voiceover reads perfectly are the category names. Hi, In addition to this, if you use Gmail as Keith is doing, there really is no need to delete any email that you receive due to the very large amount of storage you are given - just archive it. If you get into the habbit of doing this, you can simply perform a search for the person who you are wanting to contact, find one of their messages and then just look for their email address. Jaws installation problem in virtual machine solved
Hi folks. After hearing from someone that the installation problem with Jaws 14 in a virtual machine in fact was a known bug i downgraded to version 13 and all is now well. TV Apps
I just use the TV Guide app. It's accessible and free. You do need to do the setup when you first install the app such as cable TV, or through the air etc. Once setup is complete, just flick right to move forward through the channels such as channel 7, channel 8, etc. When you get to the channel you want, the currant program is announced by voice over. tap tap see and laundry
Hi. I thought I would try sorting the laundry with tap tap see as someone said they were having trouble. Not sure what the lighting situation was where i was sorting the laundry, but tap tap see mostly got it right. I verified this with my sighted husband. It got blue and grey a bit confused but my husband says the jeans were a blue grey kind of colour. If I got results that weren't sounding right I took the picture again. I took the pictures by putting my hand in the article of clothing taking a picture of my hand which was covered by the clothing. Hello Chris, I follow Eileen's instructions except for a couple of things: After typing my subject, I do switch to grade 1 braille. Hold down dot 6 and swipe down. * Now, I do not put the email address in quotes. Quotes are only needed if spaces exist. I tested this, and the email address was put in the Send To field just fine without the quotes. * On the MBraille keyboard, dot 5 is the quote sign, and dot 4 is the @ sign. Now remember, if you are sending an email to someone in your contact list, you do not have to type out the address, rather just put the first few letters of their name. For example, for my name, I just type chr. So if it is someone you might be sending messages to frequently, then I would consider adding them to your contacts. I sent a message to my self by entering the line: .mail here chr The word 'here' was my subject, and the letters chr made sure it was sending it to myself. Hope this helps. Highly precise commercial weather stations costs thousands of Dollars so one can't expect quite the same from one that is $180. But, as I said, I'll ask. Wind, by the way, is also a big factor in Felt Like temperature. At this point there is no Wind Sensor on the Netatmo Weather Station, but just as the rain sensor is in the works, I believe a Wind Sensor or anemometer, to use the correct term, is in the plan. Hi Chris, If you use .sms command, MBraille will look up Gary's phone number from contacts. If you use .mail command, it will look up his email address. So .sms command doesn't care about contacts who have no phone number. Same goes for .mail, it does not care about people who have no email address. Hi everyone I tried for some time in table mode believing I'd manage it easier this way. Sadly this was not the case. I had much more success with the phone away from me and against my chest. I have to say that in the limited time I have had to work with it, I'm very impressed such that I feel sure I will buy the app soon. I have never tried Braille touch because it only offered grade 1 braille. Contracted braille through this app is a much more attractive proposition. removing email messages from server
Hello. I am new to this group and would like to know if there is anyone that can tell me how to delete messages from my email server once I have read them on my iPod. I tried removing them from both the trash and deleted messages folder under the account name for my mail account. Since I was away from home for a week, I read all of my messages on my iPod and then deleted those I had no reason to keep. When I got home, I had to wade through over 300 messages that I had already read and deleted twice. Also, since I am on the subject, is there a way I can select all of the messages to be deleted at one time and then simply delete them all? Thank you for any help you can give me. Reggie, there probably is an easier way to find the buy button, but this is how I did it. I typed a text message and put in the command for sms. Once I swiped down, I got an alert screen saying that I need to have MBraille pro to send a text, and there was a buy button. I hope this helps. I have been working with this app most of the day to learn how to do things, and I must say that its features are amazing!! It does a lot more than just post to Twitter, facebook, and send text messages! The command structure built into this app is brilliant, and can enable even more feature intergrations later in the future. But even more amazing than to send tweets, facebook post, text messages, and emails directly from the app, is its editing features! The editing features basically turn it into a small braille note pad. You can browse what you have typed by sentence, word,or character. You can move the cursor to anywhere you want in the document and add words, delete words, or change things however you want. You can even move the cursor to a point in the document and paste something that came from another app, like a link from Safari or an email. Now you can also select by characters, words, or sentences. After you have selected text, you can then copy or cut the text from your document and move it to where ever you want. And even with all of these features and abilities, this does not include the fact that it is capable of contracted grade 2 braille! Now, lets consider the price? Lets all remember that Braille Touch was $20, and even though it is a good app, it comes no where near being filled with all of the features of MBraille! So do I think all of those extra features of MBraille is worth ten more dollars? You bet! I have been waiting for an app like this, and I am just so proud that we finally have it! Skype App Installation Procedure on IOS
Hi all, I tried downloading Skype but terminated the installation when I reached a point where my PayPal information was requested. Is this normal? In other words, should I have to enter my Apple ID and PayPal information to simply install on my iPod Touch 5th gen? Seems weird that I should have to give Skype so much personal information to try out a free app. I don't know if I'm going to use it to call private non-Skype numbers, so I'm asking the list so I don't spend the next week calling Apple and PayPal in order to fix any mess I might create. gmail and email list question
Hello everyone. I am subscribed to several email lists, including this one, on my gmail account. I never receive my own messages that I either reply to on a list or that I compose originally to a list, such as I'm doing right now. It appears to hold true for all the email lists I am subscribed to. Is there something I need to change somewhere in order for me to receive a copy of my own messages to a list? never had this issue with my previus email address, which wasn't gmail. When you are on a call and Voiceover announces the call duration, take your phone away from your ear and let it switch to speaker (not necessary if you use a headset). Now flick focus of Voiceover away from the call duration maybe to the End Call button. According to some people on the list this permanently prevents Voiceover from announcing the call duration unless focus is moved back to that area. I should say that for me on my 4S this is not a fix, even if I do this, once the call continues for a while, at some point Voiceover will say Screen Locked, then maybe within 20 or 30 seconds after that Voiceover continues to announce the call duration every 20 seconds. Alternatively, and this work-around definitely works, you can turn speech off with a 3-finger double tap once the call has started. This is not the same as getting rid of Voiceover altogether with a triple click of the home key. The 3-finger double tap will make Voiceover say Speech Off and after that you will not hear Voiceover again until you do another 3-finger double tap and Voiceover says Speech On. While speech is off Voiceover gestures still work, e.g. you can still use a 2-finger double tap to end the call. If your phone locks that is no problem either, the 3-finger double tap to mute speech also works in the lock screen which makes it easy to turn the speech back on after your call. The only disadvantage is that you have to get your phone out of your pocket or possibly belt clip or backpack. I find using this method to mute Voiceover is OK at home when I have the phone in my hand, but it's not a good solution if I am out and about and I have an incoming call because more often than not I use my wired or Bluetooth headset to answer the call and really have no need to touch the phone if it weren't for this annoying babble during the call. I have written to accessibil...@apple.com and I would urge you to do so. Some people on the list argue they like Voiceover to talk during a call, I think it's super annoying because if I get a push notification or text message and Voiceover starts reading it while I am talking to somebody it is normally not possible to continue the conversation. I often had to ask the other person to hold for a moment while I dug my phone out of my pocket so I could shut it up. I have no problem hearing whatever sound I set for incoming text messages, push notifications and so on, but apart from that I think a phone call should have priority over Voiceover reading out incoming alerts or messages and I definitely don't need Voiceover to tell me every 20 seconds the call duration, if I really want to know how long I've been on the phone I can easily find that and check it manually. Let's hope Apple has that fixed in iOS 7. would like keyboard to announce letters using voice over
I have an iPod touch and a paired keyboard. I have typed in my email address and when I hit the at-sign, it will give me the first part spoken. Is there some way to hear each letter as it is typed from the keyboard? I have written this query before and it did not show up on the list. Maybe I made some kind of simple error. Network connection
I went to settings and made sure my wyefy was turned on. However youspell the thing. Anywy, it's turned on and I swiped to the right and it said to choose the network. I double tapped on that and it had my netgear router ther. I tapped on that and it started to give two different router addresses. I know mine and I double tapped on that to select it. I'm not sure where to go from there. It said submit something and another router address. Than something about client field. I didn't know what to put htere. If some could give me the steps exactly how to do it, I know I can do it. I'm starting to learn it pretty good now. I have an I4S phone. I'm really excited about using it. I know there's all kinds of things you can do with it. I'm a new member to this group as of last night. Sorry I wrote a novel. Thanks much for the answer. Hi Andrew, If it's a daisy book, read to go app will unzip it no problem. The default account would have changed. It's in settings. It means the account that all emails get sent from first and the account that is accessed if you pick an email address outside the email program. Hope this helps. Ipod with keyboard
I have an iPod 5th generation; I've been learning a thing or two; but I bought a keyboard and would like to hear each letter or keystroke announced by the voice-over. Can you tell me how to do this? When I put in my email address, I hear the first part announced when i hit the at-sign. If I could hear letters, why, I'd be so much more efficient, maybe. Help appreciated. Hi. i have a keyboard that pairs very nicely with my Ipod 5th generation. It doesn't announce each key stroke, though. Can someone suggest how to set the iPod so that it will say every letter pressed? Thanks. Hello everyone. Does anyone have any good recommendations on a good, accessible flight app? I have the fly delta app, and was doing fine with it till it came time to select my departure and return dates. I could look at the calendar, haphazardly, but couldn't get any dates to select. Todd, I downloaded the new upgrade and it works great! I actually was able to pull up all the Olive Garden restaurants in town and they were listed by distance closest first, farthest last. Apple doesn't do things Microsoft's way even though there are similarities. iPhone has settings but you cannot change them with windows. Yes. Go into Settings, General, Accessibility, VoiceOver, Typing feedback. In there you will find settings for both software and hardware keyboards. You can set them to silent, characters, words or both characters and words. Hi. Sorry if you've already modified this, but if you go to settings, general, accessibility, voice over on, and scroll down that page you should find a button which says typing feedback. Here, you can set the typing feedback for both software and hardware keyboards, whether nothing is spoken or whether letters/words/both are spoken. It sounds like you may have it set to words only. If you've already done this, you may want to make sure the change has taken by going back into the settings application and making sure that your choice is still selected. Carol, you'll need to go to your email account provider and change your settings there. Where it says keep a copy of messages on the server just uncheck that item. Then when you delete an email message it's gone and will not appear on your computer etc. Sadly, there is not a way to delete all the messages at once but you can move quickly because iPhone by default groups messages by conversation and there may be quite a few messages in a thread. To delete the thread, flick your index finger down. You will hear the word delete spoken. Now just double tap the screen with your index finger and that hole thread is gone. If you want to open that thread, just double with 1 finger. That way you can cheery pick the messages in the thread. I like flight track free. They have both a paid and a free version but the free version works very well and it's accessible. Hi all. I'm just writing to say that although I haven't posted much to the list, I'm watching it as I can. It hasn't been the best or as much as I have in the past though. However since we are all adults, I didn't think it would fall apart without me. I'm not that important when it comes down to it. smile. I recently became an official assessment and training specialist for the I Can Connect program offered by the Helen Keller National Center and Perkins School. So, things have become quite busy in my working life. I've even gotten behind on setting up some new things I've recently purchased, like a new laser printer, and new usb scanner. So, rather than relaxing and catching up this weekend on some needed sleep, I'm doing the things I've gotten behind on. I'm not writing this to ask for sympathy, but just to let you all know that I'm here and have seen that for the most part, things have run smoothly. So, keep up the lively discussions, and boy oh boy I have a lot to catch up on. Thanks all, and take care. Hi, the two I use most are Flight Aware and Flight View Elite. Both are accessible except that recently Flight View Elite's calendar for choosing a date has become not so VO friendly. Hello Rebecca, You can't do actual PowerPoint on either IOS or Mac, but you can use Keynote, which is the Apple equivalent. I've never used it on IOS, but on the Mac, it's definitely usable. You need to burrown down in settings/general/accessibility/voiceover, and then flick down to typing feedback; it'll be in there. Hi Jim, Neil Barnfather from England has been very involved with Sonos for some time. I have also contacted them many times. In the past they were not very receptive, but recently that seems to have changed. Neil, myself and I believe a few other Sonos fans on the list are now involved as Beta Testers and it appears Sonos is actively looking into making accessibility part of the app. Having said this, the app is currently very accessible with the exception of a few unlabeled buttons. Hi Simon, Can you rephrase this and explain a bit more? I am not sure I understand your issue. Voiceover clearly says if a message is unread and no message, read or unread, should go to the Trash folder simply when you open the Trash folder. I'm pretty sure I am. The button says still camera so assume that means it's in video mode. No response in speech or with voiceover, so it seems to not be seeing anything. Buddy, You may find it useful to enable the Sidebar in iTunes 11, this makes it look a lot more like iTunes 10. You can do this with the Control+S shortcut, if the Sidebar is hidden Control+S will show it, if it is not hidden Control+S will hide it. You can also do this via the View menu. However, if you have the Audible app on your iPhone, why not download books straight to your phone? All you have to do is tap on the Cloud tab at the top, this will display your Audible library and all books you own. You can then double tap on a book you want, this will display all the parts of the book and you can either download each part separately or double tap on the Download All button. Ok, I reckon the editing features are going to be the strongest feature. But, and only just got the demo, not the money to upgrade yet. But I typed a lot, had a call on another phone, put iPhone down clumsily to take the call, and when I got back to iPhone and unlocked it, all my text had gone!... must have thought I shook the phone. So, good as that might sound, it strikes me your efforts could be at a singularly frustrating risk.
