Please file a bug at http://bugzilla.kernel.org for the "Tx falls back to its lowest setting" issue. This is a softmac bug. Assign to [EMAIL PROTECTED] Thanks! (I noticed I still had this mail sitting in my queue. It's the result of some minimal testing. I hope it's not old news. I decided to use netio to get an impression of the performance. The (maximum) performance seems to be half of that of the vendor driver. (~1.3 MB/s <-> ~2.5 MB/s) One thing that caught my eye was that Tx defaulted to ~1Mb/s and Rx seemed to adapt to the maximum speed possible. I was able to change Tx with iwconfig. However there seem to be circumstances where Tx falls back to its lowest setting and I've been unable to get it back to a higher rate without a reboot. OK, yours seems to be different problem then. Well, at least a complete blindness to data packets is off the cards. I still suspect it might be wpa_supplicant confusing us - softmac still isn't great at handling iwconfig ioctl's in quick succession. Joe Jezak is working on this, maybe that has helped. I have half-fixed my ZD1211B problem in my tree: I can now connect (and send data to/from) unencrypted networks. I don't think encryption is working yet, I need to double check that though... What follows is just user experience, I just hope there's something useful in it. So far I've been able to make a working connection and do a FTP transfer multiple times using WPA / DHCP. Sometimes I need to initially setup the connection, by stopping/starting wpa_supplicant/dhclient or even stop dhclient / wpa_supplicant / rmmod zd1211rw / modprobe zd1211rw / start wpa_supplicant / dhclient to work around association timeouts. Once there is a connection it seems stable, getting connected seems to be the problem. Unfortunately I haven't spotted any failures in the logs so far. Initially it seemed only possible to create a connection successfully by having only one network configuration enabled in wpa_supplicant.conf. Re-testing shows that even multiple enabled networks in wpa_supplicant.conf seem to work, though it worked only once so far. Multiple networks seem a cause for trouble. If I enable two networks, and the AP-s for both are up, I notice what looks like two authentication/association attempts going on at the same time. Multiple enabled networks seem to interfere with each other somehow, though not all the time. Maybe, whatever causes the disturbance, also causes connection problems with iwconfig connections. - Take Surveys. Earn Cash. Re: [zd1211-devs] zd1211rw encryption problems
Grr.. I can't get my ZD1211B connecting to unencrypted networks and don't have any logs showing it ever worked. I must have made a mistake in my earlier analysis (left the ethernet cable in or something!) -- I am no longer sure that this is a bug related to packets encrypted in software. rello wrote: > So no SoftMac in next driver relase? ?? > OK in 2/3 days I'll finish my exams and I can come back testing new > driver relases both on PPC and x86 machines. > Hardware encryption modifications will be still applied to the main > wireless kernel tree or you'll relase some patches? [zd1211-devs] zd1211rw encryption problems
Hi, I think I have an explanation for the unresolved zd1211rw failure reports (rello, remco, a couple of others) that are floating around. With zd1211rw, my ZD1211B device cannot connect to my network when encryption is enabled. Well, it can associate, but data tx/rx does not work. The vendor driver works OK. Remember that zd1211rw does all encryption and decryption in software (for now), whereas the vendor driver does it all in hardware. My other device (an original ZD1211) works fine, but I'm not so sure that this is a ZD1211 vs ZD1211B thing. I investigated the problem with my ZD1211B. The software-encrypted frame is being sent, is being acknowledged, and encrypted data frames are sent in response. However, the ZD1211B does not "see" the ACK (gives me a retry failed interrupt), and does not see any of the response frames (at least does not upload them to the host in any way). The reason that association works (which obviously involves frame exchage) is because management frames are unencrypted. Also, connecting to unencrypted networks works just fine. I have emailed a detailed report to ZyDAS. I don't think they will do anything with it. The best approach to solving this is for us to do encryption/decryption in hardware, which is done simply by uploading the keys to the device and marking non-management frames to be encrypted (I think) -- any volunteers? ;) Any testing appreciated: does zd1211rw work with your ZD1211B device when connecting to encrypted networks? (remember to test more than just associating...) Daniel - Using Tomcat but need to do more? Need to support web services, security?
