We are using Solaris 10, Tomcat 7.0.26

anything out of the ordinary (and obviously, the commands are being run).
Could you post your tomcat output when you try to start it? You should
also check differences in your environment variables when using
different methods.

as a variable for your current pid. With that you can either kill your
current instance and let your monitoring handle the rest or try to
initi

processed by your tomcat (and check the status code)
