NEED HELP

2020-02-23 Thread Tom Dillon via 4D_Tech
I am not sure if this is the right forum but I need help on a problem
that's just cropped up.

I have been successfully building stand alone apps using V13.3 for years
now and suddenly each time I try to "Build the app" it starts coping over
file but just before it finishes 4d crashes. I have tried everything to get
it to work.

Anybody have any ideas as to what causing this?

Thanks,

Graphs broken in V17

2020-01-23 Thread Tom Dillon via 4D_Tech
I just upgraded my DB from v13 to v17 and all my graphs (which I have about
25) are broken. All I get is a while space where the graph was in the form.

The basic issues is in this tech note:

*Compatibility note: Beginning with 4D v14, the** GRAPH command only works
with a picture variable as its first parameter. The obsolete syntax using a
graph area (4D Chart) is no longer supported.*

OK, but I am struggling with what this really means. Just redefining the
GRAPH NAME as a picture variable (C_PICTURE) and changing the graph in the
form to be a picture does nothing. I still get a blank graph.

So I am stumped as to what I need to do get graphs working again.

I've had no problem with 17.3 on my MacBook Pro running Catalina. However, a
client running single user just upgraded to Catalina and 4D crashes after
warning that the windows won't open in their previous positions. Even just
launching 4D, without a structure, crashes.

Have any of you seen this or have an idea of what may happening?

SET PRINT OPTION Fails on a New Macbook Air

2019-05-17 Thread Tom Dillon via 4D_Tech
4D 17.1

SET PRINT OPTION(Destination option;3;$DocPath)  // PDF

$DocPath is validated

Prints to a PDF on my iMac (10.13.6). On a client's Macbook Air (10.14.4) it
creates no document and ends up printing on the default printer.

Any ideas on why this computer wants to make me sad?

BTW, the DB folder is at the hard drive level. There is a PDF Invoices folder
in the same folder as the DB.

4D Write Pro Brain Cramp

2019-02-13 Thread Tom Dillon via 4D_Tech
I know I'm missing something about 4D Write Pro involving ST Freeze Expressions.

In a loop I create an [Invoice] record, assign an invoice template to the Write
Pro object field
([Invoice]Invoice_WP:=[Preferences]Preference_Object)
Call ST FREEZE EXPRESSIONS([Invoice]Invoice_WP)
Save it.

The first time through, the [Invoice] record has all the correct references
resolved. The second time through, even though the fields being referred to
have changed, the saved WP object field contains a copy of the same field from
the first one.

Basically this for a selection of [Client] records:

For ($Ndx;1;Records in selection([Client])
 Create Record ([Invoice])
 < load, calc and assign needed stuff >
 [Invoice]Invoice_WP:=[Preferences]Preference_Object
ST FREEZE EXPRESSIONS([Invoice]Invoice_WP)
SAVE RECORD([Invoice])
NEXT RECORD([Client])
End for

What am I missing?

Thanks y'all!

Re: Setting Zoom in a 4D Write Pro Area

2019-02-05 Thread Tom Dillon via 4D_Tech
Yes. I tried all three view modes. But, I just noticed that it would work after
I clicked into the Write Pro area. I added a GOTO Object to the area when the
form loaded and POOF it works.

I wouldn't have thought it had to have focus, but it sort of makes sense given
that INVOKE ACTION is effectively executing a contextual menu. The docs do say,
"Such actions are always executed synchronously in the context of the editable
object that has the focus." I guess I should have read them more closely.

Thanks.

Setting Zoom in a 4D Write Pro Area

2019-02-04 Thread Tom Dillon via 4D_Tech
From the Tech Tip "Programatically set the Zoom in 4D Write Pro"
<https://kb.4d.com/assetid=78083> the following should set the zoom level of a
4D Write area. But, it doesn't seem to work, at least for me. Can any of y'all
point out the error of my ways?

$invokeStr:="zoom?value="+String($Scale)+"%"  ` "zoom?value=100%"
INVOKE ACTION($invokeStr;$WP_AreaPtr->)

and $WP_AreaPtr is to a field displaying the 4D WP area.

The area is initially set to 50%. The object changes sizes, since I set it to
Grow/Grow, but the content stays the same size/zoom level.

I wanted to make the zoom reflect a user change in the window size, and I've
even tried it from a button.

Re: Managing different indexes for different databases

2018-12-14 Thread Tom Dillon via 4D_Tech
Pat,

Now you've got me intrigued. Not to question the validity of this at all, but
what does this do for the customer that leaving all the optional indexes on
would?

Do you, from the design mode, have all the optional indexes turned on, and turn
off indexes based on the FieldMap settings? If so, if the Designer logged in
would skipping the code that turns off these indexes allow a developer to work
without it reindexing? Or, similarly, if a file called "Don't Reindex!" exists
on the development machine, don't reset the indexes?

Re: Favorite tricks and keystrokes: Please take one and leave one

2017-05-30 Thread Tom Dillon via 4D_Tech
I use a method called WindowList which puts a list of all the Design
Environment windows open onto the clipboard. I paste this into a method called
_Work to keep "project" parts readily available. So, when I need to work on
something else for a while, all the other project windows can be closed and
opened back up later.

Basically:

WINDOW LIST($aWinRef)
ARRAY TEXT($aWinName;Size of array($aWinRef))
For ($Ndx;1;Size of array($aWinRef))
  $aWinName{$Ndx}:=Get window title($aWinRef{$Ndx})
End for

plus a big Case statement for windows I don't want to keep, like the Explorer,
etc. And, of course I put a comment character at the beginning of each line.

Here's the full code for anyone interested:

  // WindowList
  // Puts a list of all the Design Environment windows open onto the clipboard

C_LONGINT($Ndx)
C_TEXT($Text;$Title)
C_BOOLEAN($Add)

ARRAY LONGINT($aWinRef;0)

WINDOW LIST($aWinRef)
ARRAY TEXT($aWinName;Size of array($aWinRef))
For ($Ndx;1;Size of array($aWinRef))
$aWinName{$Ndx}:=Get window title($aWinRef{$Ndx})
End for

SORT ARRAY($aWinName)
$Text:="` --- "+String(Current date;7)+" ---"+Char(13)
For ($Ndx;1;Size of array($aWinName))
$Title:=$aWinName{$Ndx}
$Add:=False
Case of
  // The first block is NOT added to the list of windows.
: ($Title="")
: ($Title="Custom")
: ($Title="Structure @")
: ($Title="List of tables")
: ($Title="@ - Explorer")

End case

Re: Character limit in form text variables?

2017-02-14 Thread Tom Dillon via 4D_Tech
Jeff,

I just tried it and it worked properly (mostly). I put a million characters on
the clipboard, pasted it to a text variable on a form and checked the length.
Oddly enough the length showed 999,999.

I tried putting a few control characters in there just for kicks, but it still
worked.

You could call Get text from pasteboard and put it directly into the variable
to see if that works.

From testing, it looks like the picture is not being read from the picture
library correctly due (probably) to it being a PICT.

I used GET PICTURE FROM LIBRARY then SET PICTURE TO PASTEBOARD and the
clipboard in the Finder said "Clipboard contents unknown". I also tried pasting
into GraphicConvertor with no luck.

So, then I tried:
PICTURE TO GIF($vpPict;$BLOB)
BLOB TO PICTURE($BLOB;$vpPict2)
SET PICTURE TO PASTEBOARD($vpPict2).

The camera with the red X and PICT image was on the clipboard.

So, do you have a v15 version of the structure? :-/

So, for some reason, dragging v15 to the dock acts as if it's creating a

[Off] Multiple 4D 15 Icons in Mac Dock

2017-01-12 Thread Tom Dillon
I have 4D 15.3 in the Doc on my Mac. When I launch it by clicking on it, a
second 4D 15 icon appears with the dot below it to indicate it's running. The
existing icon doesn't show a dot.

All other versions of 4D don't do this, even 16.0.

Is this some setting I'm missing?

Stuck Floating Palettes

2016-12-20 Thread Tom Dillon
4D v15.3 connected to 4D Server
Windows 7 and 10

Floating palette windows, both opened programmatically and the Property List in
the design environment won't move when attempting to drag them by their title
bars. But, only on some machines. And, I haven't found a pattern, in part
because I don't have a complete list of the specs on the machines that have
working and stuck palettes.

Any thoughts?

Just FYI, the Save Set command saves the specified set to a document unless the
set does not exist, in which case no document is created, no error is generated
and OK is set to 1. So, you could call Save Set and test for the document's
existence to determine if the set exists, then delete the document.

Probably more work than testing for Error 39, but it's there.
