NEED HELP
I am not sure if this is the right forum but I need help on a problem that's just cropped up. I have been successfully building stand alone apps using V13.3 for years now and suddenly each time I try to "Build the app" it starts coping over file but just before it finishes 4d crashes. Graphs broken in V17
I just upgraded my DB from v13 to v17 and all my graphs (which I have about 25) are broken. All I get is a while space where the graph was in the form. The basic issues is in this tech note: *Compatibility note: Beginning with 4D v14, the** GRAPH command only works with a picture variable as its first parameter. The obsolete syntax using a graph area (4D Chart) is no longer supported.* OK, but I am struggling with what this really means. Just redefining the GRAPH NAME as a picture variable (C_PICTURE) and changing the graph in the form to be a picture does nothing. I still get a blank graph. So I am stumped as to what I need to do get graphs working again. ** 4D Internet Users Group (4D iNUG) Archive: http://lists.4d.com/archives.html Options: https://lists.4d.com/mailman/options/4d_tech Unsub: mailto:4d_tech-unsubscr...@lists.4d.com **

4D Write Pro Brain Cramp
I know I'm missing something about 4D Write Pro involving ST Freeze Expressions. In a loop I create an [Invoice] record, assign an invoice template to the Write Pro object field ([Invoice]Invoice_WP:=[Preferences]Preference_Object) Call ST FREEZE EXPRESSIONS([Invoice]Invoice_WP) Save it. The first time through, the [Invoice] record has all the correct references resolved. The second time through, even though the fields being referred to have changed, the saved WP object field contains a copy of the same field from the first one. Yes. I tried all three view modes. But, I just noticed that it would work after I clicked into the Write Pro area. I added a GOTO Object to the area when the form loaded and POOF it works. I wouldn't have thought it had to have focus, but it sort of makes sense given that INVOKE ACTION is effectively executing a contextual menu. Re: Managing different indexes for different databases
Pat, Now you've got me intrigued. Not to question the validity of this at all, but what does this do for the customer that leaving all the optional indexes on would? Do you, from the design mode, have all the optional indexes turned on, and turn off indexes based on the FieldMap settings? If so, if the Designer logged in would skipping the code that turns off these indexes allow a developer to work without it reindexing? Or, similarly, if a file called "Don't Reindex!" exists on the development machine, don't reset the indexes? Re: Favorite tricks and keystrokes: Please take one and leave one
I use a method called WindowList which puts a list of all the Design Environment windows open onto the clipboard. I paste this into a method called _Work to keep "project" parts readily available. So, when I need to work on something else for a while, all the other project windows can be closed and opened back up later. Basically: WINDOW LIST($aWinRef) ARRAY TEXT($aWinName;Size of array($aWinRef)) For ($Ndx;1;Size of array($aWinRef)) $aWinName{$Ndx}:=Get window title($aWinRef{$Ndx}) End for plus a big Case statement for windows I don't want to keep, like the Explorer, etc. And, of course I put a comment character at the beginning of each line. Here's the full code for anyone interested: // WindowList // Puts a list of all the Design Environment windows open onto the clipboard C_LONGINT($Ndx) C_TEXT($Text;$Title) C_BOOLEAN($Add) ARRAY LONGINT($aWinRef;0) WINDOW LIST($aWinRef) ARRAY TEXT($aWinName;Size of array($aWinRef)) For ($Ndx;1;Size of array($aWinRef)) $aWinName{$Ndx}:=Get window title($aWinRef{$Ndx}) End for SORT ARRAY($aWinName) $Text:="` --- "+String(Current date;7)+" ---"+Char(13) For ($Ndx;1;Size of array($aWinName)) $Title:=$aWinName{$Ndx} $Add:=False Case of // The first block is NOT added to the list of windows. : ($Title="") : ($Title="Custom") : ($Title="Structure @") : ($Title="List of tables") : ($Title="@ - Explorer") : ($Title="Method: aaa@") : ($Title="Method: _@") : ($Title="Method: .@") : ($Title=("Method: "+Current method name)) : ($Title="Form:@") $Title:=Replace string($Title;"]";"];\"")+"\"" $Add:=True : ($Title="Form Method:@") $Title:=Replace string($Title;"Form Method: ";"") $Title:=Replace string($Title;"]";"];\"")+"\"" $Add:=True : ($Title="Object Method:@") $Title:=Replace string($Title;"Object Method: ";"") $Title:=Replace string($Title;"].";"];\"") $Title:=Replace string($Title;".";"\";") $Add:=True Else $Add:=True End case If ($Add) $Title:=Replace string($Title;"Form: ";"") $Title:=Replace string($Title;"Method: ";"") $Text:=$Text+"` "+$Title+Char(13) End if End for $Text:=$Text+"` ---"+Char(13)+Char(13) SET TEXT TO PASTEBOARD($Text) BEEP -- -- Tom Dillon 825 N. 500 W. 4D v15.3 connected to 4D Server Windows 7 and 10 Floating palette windows, both opened programmatically and the Property List in the design environment won't move when attempting to drag them by their title bars. But, only on some machines. And, I haven't found a pattern, in part because I don't have a complete list of the specs on the machines that have working and stuck palettes. Any thoughts? Re: How to determine if a SET exists?
Kirk Brooks wrote: >That being said I think the best solution for me right now is the error 39 >trap Jeremy and David and some others have suggested. Just FYI, the Save Set command saves the specified set to a document unless the set does not exist, in which case no document is created, no error is generated and OK is set to 1. So, you could call Save Set and test for the document's existence to determine if the set exists, then delete the document. Probably more work than testing for Error 39, but it's there. -- -- Tom Dillon 825 N. 500 W. One thing that helps: Close the Properties list. Not much help, but it might help when you just need to move things around. Re: Very slow typing in text field in CS
Kirk, I'm sure you've tried invoking the debugger using the secret keyboard and mouse handshake to no avail, but have you tried turning on On Before Keystroke and adding a case thusly (and with impunity): :(On before keystroke & Caps lock down) trace The caps thing is so you can wait until entry gets slow. -- -- Tom Dillon 825 N. 500 W.
