No other public places are as important as the universities. Any tangible change should emanate from the university campuses as they are the actual symbols directing towards social change pointing out to the rest of the world. Of course, our university buildings are not planned keeping in view the needs of the disabled. Now that perspectives are changing, we could voice out our concerns. At the EFL university, Hyderabad, we have conducted an Access Audit of 16 buildings and a 500 page document is submitted by Samarthyam, an accessibility consultant based in Delhi. As far as I've heard, SBI is the only bank giving all the features to visually handicapped people as per the circulars/guidelines. Even if any of the branches is denying any of the features at par to their sighted normal customers, you can contact their helpline and they are solving it immediately. Even though there are plenty of circulars/guidelines or whatever, whenever the branch manager is getting transferred and the new person is taking in charge, we are facing problems. I'm not sure when all these idiots are going to learn or dono how far the bank management is educating their officers to deal with the disabled people. Also I'm not sure how many of them are able to understand what is written in the circular which we are presenting to them. Re: [AI] Coach for People with disabilities in Railways - a follow-up
Hi friends before cupple of weeks I was traveling from my place to Delhi with my cousin. My waiting list ticket couldn't be confirmed in AC chair car therefore we decided to board handicapped coach. But when we reached at the end of the train we saw that handicapped coach was full of nondisabled as usual. We tried to seek help from guard in adjacent compartment, he was very busy in his personal business while talking on telephone, after our repeated demand he turned to us and asked the problem, we asked him to vacate the handicapped coach, but he outrightly refused and showed his inability to do so. Then I asked a RPF personal standing nearby, but he also refused to do any thing unless guard gives him note of doing so. I asked the guard that I am going to complain regarding it and your inability. At the same time I did complained with the train number and station where it was standing to number 9717630982. I dont know what happened with in 5 minute, guard called RPF personal and said to him that I am giving note to u and vacate the coach. Then that RPF jawan with in 5 minute vacated the coach using force, surprisingly there was only 1 PH sitting in the coach. Friends now what happened at the next station that guard came to us and asked me my certificate and ticket, I gave him and he took it to his compartment. He did not returned it untill we reached Delhi, when I approached him to take my certificate then he very strongly said to me that it is not our duty to vacate the coach and in future never complain. I said to him that I know it is under your jurisdiction, if it is not why you are caring of the complaint? I said, let me follow my own process if it is not ur duty then why u r worried? I left him with this hot discussion and warned him that I am very well aware of my rights. This complaint number is of Delhi, may be in other circle other number working. Wondering, if any of you know updated information. Additionally, wanted to share an incident I have noticed recently. Howrah - Chennai Superfast mail has two such coaches one at the front and another towards the end of train. When a couple of passengers with disabilites went to front side coach, it was crowded with all non-disabled users and couple of policemen standing there told that it's not their responsibility to get them vacated and the second coach which is just before the guards coach gets such support and those two folks had to walk all the way to end of the train. Yes, the guard was supervising the coach and was not allowing any passenger who does not have a disability. I was shocked, when there are two coaches, why they do not offer necessary support. Since that was a station where train halts almost 20 minutes, those folks were able to walk all over the train, but what could have happened if train halts only for a minute or two or if they are mobility impaired? Do you all think, taking up this issue with CCPD office would help? I have found that they have a very good search methodology where in one can drill down to the desired product. For eg. I wanted to purchase a cell phone. I selected the brands, its price range and the specific features and got a list of phones meeting the defined criteria. However when I wanted to alter or remove a criteria specified earlier then I could not locate any ways to do the same. Subsequently I took a sighted assistance to remove the said criteria. My friend told me that there is a short cross sign next to the selected criteria. Once the said cross sign was clicked the said constraint was removed. Apart from the above shortcoming I found the site accessible. Its compare feature too (used for comparing upto 4 models of product) is very good. [AI] Promoting Technology for Disabled Persons:
Press Information Bureau Government of India Ministry of Social Justice Empowerment 11-December-2012 17:32 IST A number of initiatives have been taken to promote research technology for the benefit of Persons with Disabilities:- The Ministry confers National Awards for the empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (PwDs), every year, under various categories. One of these categories is for Best applied research/innovation/product development aimed at improving the life of PwDs. The Ministry made its website accessible to persons with disabilities and launched the accessible website in January, 2010, at a cost of Rs.20.09 lakh. Other Central Ministries were also requested to similarly make their own websites, as well as of their associated organizations, accessible to persons with disabilities. State Governments have also been requested to make their important websites accessible to persons with disabilities and financial assistance has also been offered to them for doing so. Central assistance of Rs. 31.00 lakh has so far been released to 3 State/UT Governments for this purpose. No proposal, in this regard, has however been received from the Government of Andhra Pradesh. The Government has also, in 2010, instituted a new category of National Awards - viz for websites with best accessibility features. Under this category one award each is given for such websites of (i) Government organizations, (ii) Public Sector/autonomous/local bodies, and (iii) Non-Govt. organizations. An Online Braille Library, established by the National Institute for Visually Handicapped, (NIVH) Dehradun, has been launched on 4th January, 2012. This library has books, including in Telugu, which can be accessed in real time from any location, including Andhra Pradesh. An amount of Rs. 47.50 lakh has been spent on this project so far. An online catalogue of Braille books has also been hosted by NIVH which enables visually-impaired persons to ascertain the location and availability of a desired Braille book, without going to Braille Libraries and Braille Presses. An amount of Rs.17.00 lakhs has been spent on this project so far. NIVH has also launched an Online Directory of Services for the Visually Impaired persons. Services available in Andhra Pradesh have also been included in this Directory. The National Institute for Mentally Handicapped, Secunderabad, has developed certain technology based teaching modules for training of persons with mental retardation. Technological methods like electroencephalography (EEG) and electromyography (EMG) are used for assessment of disability. EEG bio-feedback is used for stimulation of electrical impulses in the brain of children with mental retardation, and softwares are used for speech therapy. The National Institute for the Orthopaedically Handicapped, Kolkata, has developed proto-types of myo-electric hand, multi-use wheelchair, low-cost pediatric below-knee prosthesis, and functional electric stimulation devices for persons with foot-drop. The Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India, functioning under this Ministry, also works on developing technological aids and appliances at a relatively low cost. The Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI) is running a TV channel called Navshikhar through which programmes on disability-related topics are telecast for the benefit of teachers/special educators, professionals, parents of children with disabilities, and other stakeholders. At present, there are 472 Direct Reception Centres for this channel, of which 32 are in Andhra Pradesh. This information was given by the Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment, Shri D. Napoleon in a written reply to a question in Lok Sabha. Re: [AI] need an imformation
Web analytics is the measurement, collection, analysis and reporting of internet data for purposes of understanding and optimizing web usage.[1] It is often done without the permission or knowledge of the user, in which case - particularly with third party cookies which can be shared between different web sites - although some users may consider it a breach of privacy, no personal information can be collected through cookies because it is only possible to automatically collect technical information through this method, such as the operating system's version and the web browser's version. Web analytics is not just a tool for measuring web traffic but can be used as a tool for business and market research, and to assess and improve the effectiveness of a web site. Web analytics applications can also help companies measure the results of traditional print or broadcast advertising campaigns. It helps one to estimate how traffic to a website changes after the launch of a new advertising campaign. Web analytics provides information about the number of visitors to a website and the number of page views. It helps gauge traffic and popularity trends which is useful for market research. There are two categories of web analytics; off-site and on-site web analytics. Off-site web analytics refers to web measurement and analysis regardless of whether you own or maintain a website. It includes the measurement of a website's potential audience (opportunity), share of voice (visibility), and buzz (comments) that is happening on the Internet as a whole. On-site web analytics measure a visitor's behavior once on your website. This includes its drivers and conversions; for example, the degree to which different landing pages are associated with online purchases. On-site web analytics measures the performance of your website in a commercial context. This data is typically compared against key performance indicators for performance, and used to improve a web site or marketing campaign's audience response. Google Analytics is the most widely-used on-site web analytics service; although new tools are emerging that provide additional layers of information, including heat maps and session replay. Historically, web analytics has referred to on-site visitor measurement. However in recent years this has blurred, mainly because vendors are producing tools that span both categories. zoher kheriwala taheri menswear mumbai. skype id zoher.kheriwala - Original Message - From: MEHZABEEN PALANA zainab.smar...@gmail.com To: accessindia accessindia@accessindia.org.in Sent: Tuesday, December 11, 2012 5:49 PM Subject: [AI] need an imformation hay friends i am mehzabeen palana from udaipurand want to know what is web analesis?and how can it be done by jaws? please if any one have knowledge about it please reply me soon thanks in aadvance -- You only live once, but if you do it right, once is enough Register at the dedicated AccessIndia list for discussing accessibility of mobile phones / Tabs on: http://mail.accessindia.org.in/mailman/listinfo/mobile.accessindia_accessindia.org.in Search for old postings at: http://www.mail-archive.com/accessindia@accessindia.org.in/ To unsubscribe send a message to accessindia-requ...@accessindia.org.in with the subject unsubscribe. Dear Anand, No screen reading application or software is going to be used in the forthcoming examination to be conducted by IBPS on the said dates. The exam will be online through Computer which will be provided by IBPS at the Center. Visually impaired applicants will have to use their scribe as usually to write the exam. There is no change in qualification criteria of scribe but writer should be able to operate the Computer, so the VI candidates do not miss on the writing aspect through their scribe. Re: [AI] Cheques with thumb impression
No, Srikant not. It is not same for all customers, bank is clearly liable if it honors a cheque with forged signature. Bank is supposed to detect a forgery in signature. They are trying to protedt themselves by taking indemnity from VI customers in case of forgery which a bit easy in case of VI. Though indemnity would not afford them a blanket protection in court, it would surely prolong and complicate the judicial proceedings, should there be any forgery and VI should inplicate the bank for honoring the cheque. -Original Message- From: AccessIndia [mailto:accessindia-boun...@accessindia.org.in] On Behalf Of Srikanth Kanuri Sent: Monday, December 10, 2012 6:36 PM To: accessindia@accessindia.org.in Subject: Re: [AI] Cheques with thumb impression hi all, i use a stencil. once signed and got it cut by the stencil maker it would be consistent. i prefer a card board or or plastic sheet for this purpose.
