established norms and decorum greatly enhances the chance of successful
interactions with clients, colleagues and others, which in turn will ensure
continuing and beneficial personal and business relationships. It is
therefore extremely important that executives at all levels learn and put
to practice the same, to have that extra edge in the business scenario.

Much of the business interactions take place in restaurants and in dining
situations – whether it's meeting clients, colleagues or meeting a
future employer for an interview etc. Having fine dining etiquette and
table manners will give you enhanced confidence in dealing with others and
is very essential in achieving desired outcomes.

This unique 2 days program is packed with takeaways to enablе participants

their professional attitude and take their business and dining etiquette to
the next level. Fine dining etiquette across cross cultures, is also a part
of the module. The workshop employs world class tool of ‘Image
Management’, to ensure complete image makeover.

Note on ‘Image Management’
_

Image management is the science and art of pro-active ongoing evaluation
and control of the impact of appearance on self, others and on achievement
of goals. Image influences public perception of oneself. A major part of
communication is visual and what we see we remember and what we hear we
forget. For this reason, positive first impressions are very vital to take
any personal and professional relationship forward. With Image Management,
one can master the art of expression through physical appearance, body
language and business etiquette to project confidence and trustworthiness.
These factors also assist in projecting an image of Capability, Rapport,
Trust and Leadership, for e.g, at a conference or an important
meeting/assignment. An organization’s corporate image is reflected in the
employees and this impacts how clients, future prospects and business
partners perceive your organization.

Re: [AI] Urgent: Writing semester exams on computer using Jaws

2013-05-02 Thread Hozefa Tambawala
If you are using JAWS 12 and wish to use Office 2007, then activate
“Use Virtual Ribbon Menu” option to make the Office 2007 ribbon
structure simpler. After activating, you can navigate as same as in
Office 2003. Just follow this prompts to do the same:

1. Open “JAWS menu” by pressing INSERT+J.
2. Select “Utilities” and press ENTER.
3. Select “Settings Center” and press ENTER.
4. Press TAB and navigate to the “Tree view” section.
5. Select “Miscellaneous” and press RIGHT ARROW to expand that section.
6. Press DOWN ARROW and select “Use Virtual Ribbon Menu” checkbox and
press SPACEBAR to check it.
7. Finally, press ENTER to close the Settings Center dialog box.

Explore this option and feel the change. You will find that all
individual options in ribbon are disappeared and same options are
shown under the various categories. After activating this checkbox,
you won’t be able to navigate with the TAB key. You need to use four
arrow keys and ENTER key to activate the option. If you are not
satisfied with the change, then clear the box “Use Virtual Ribbon
Menu” with SPACEBAR.

The same applies to Office 2010 as well.

I am using it without any trouble. If you need more assistance, then
contact me on my e-mail ID.

pdf would help as then there is lesser chance of tampering with answer
 sheet during printouts.

Also, you can use a footer which contains page numbers as: 1/34
assuming of course you have written total of 34 pages. This will help
if there is any page missing from your printed copy and such other
 circumstances.

Generally, I write my seat no., (in your case it could be roll no.),
subject, semester, (whether 3 years law or 5 years law), medium, along
with total number of pages. Make sure to use page breaks wherever
 required.

If you have OMR sheet concept, then that will be attached on top of
your printout. I would advise you to also stick your permission letter
of university allowing you to give answers in printed format be
attached with your answer sheet, this saves from 2 things, one that
your answer books are moderated, and second at the time of entry of
marks, nobody leaves your marks as the answer sheet is printed. (only
applicable if these things are done at a university level).

Writing question number before each sub-question is a good idea. Soft
copy and other issues depend on the mentality of your examination
authorities, so check with university (controller of examinations) and
law department's dean. Otherwise, no option then to go with a reader.

Feel free to write / call personally should you need any help.

 Regards

I think this is because JNU had dispatched Entrance exam letter prior

Moreover, I will talk this concern with Authorities for sure.

Hi sir, U.P public service commission don't provide scribe guidelines
publicly, i mean they don't declare these guidelines alongwith the
advertisements. I could obtain their scribe guidelines through RTI
application. I have those which I will send you the scanned copy.
However the scribe guidelines of UPSC can be seen on their website and
in each year Civil services prilimnary examination advertisement.

educational institution in the country which has implemented Newly

B.A./M.A./M.Phil entrance exams.

[AI] JNU has implimented CCPD's Newly released Guideline for scribe

2013-05-02 Thread avinash shahi
Dear All
I am elated to inform you that The JNU has become the first higher
educational institution in the country which has implemented Newly
issued guidelines straightaway for using scribes in the upcoming
B.A./M.A./M.Phil entrance exams.
Now ordeal of not being able to perform after burning oil in the night
will not effect your performance. But there will be strict vigelence,
they say.
All applicants have been sent E-mails to confirm whether they wish to
bring their own scribes or want JNU to provide them at the time of
entrance test.
You can bring scenior scribe provided he/she should not be from the
subject in which you are seeking admission. Don't forget to carry your
scribe's Identity Proof note: Nilekani's UID will not work...
If anyone of yu who is preparing for exam has not yet received mail
from the administration just let me know.
All the best to all applying candidates.--

[AI] TIL partners with AIR for live-commentary of IPL matches

2013-05-02 Thread David Richards
Dear all Access Indians, here's a good news for visually-challenged cricket
lovers who prefer to enjoy listening to the running commentary of cricket
matches on radio channels: Times Internet Limited (TIL), Times of India group's
Internet Arm and All India Radio (AIR) have joined hands to broadcast the
running commentary of 33 select matches of ongoing IPL 6 over AIR national
channel and FM Gold network. The score updates for all the matches will be
broadcast on AIR FM Rainbow channels. The running commentary for
play-offs/finals are among the 33 select matches to be broadcast alternately in
Hindi and English so that cricket fans can follow cricketing actions from
whereever they may be.

Re: [AI] Be Alert while looking for Cyted Assistance at out-door

2013-05-02 Thread mukesh jain
hello,
certainly we are in a far more better condition as few years ago
whitnessing the advanced technological development in the area of
assistive technology making the life of vi more independent. but that
doesn't mean that we can reduce the dependency on sighted people at
greater extent. there are several reasons in my view and most
importantly is that how many vi persons could really be benificial to
these developments directly? still in remote areas where this
technology is at the finger tips of sighted community like full of
pocket with handsum mobile, beautifying shoulders with the akaash
tablets offered under government schemes, etc but what about the vi
people being aware of even dreaming of using the same independently?
even if they are bit aware, what about such technical support offered
to them nearby to their location? so in my view, the given deceit
situation can't be remedied by linking with the use of such advanced
technology fully unless we ourselves does not change to be alert and
cautious of the things we are going to involve and its procedures,
consequences, etc.

by making my such personal remark, don't intend to discover the fault
of anyone but just wanting to convey that despite fully trusting the
assistive technology if we rather use our own wakening sense towards
the situation in front, many problems themselves be cured without any
unexpected serious aftermaths and upshots.

thanks,

lets collate information of about all such institutions that are not
abiding by the new guidelines. This is a clear case of discrimination and
non-adherence to the mandatory guidelines and should be taken up.

I am putting together the issues, send me more details of other agencies.
If possible please send me their writer /scribe guidelines off the list.

Re: [AI] URGENT: for Students appearing for ICAI exams starting today

2013-05-02 Thread Mohib Anwar Rafel
Sir can any thing be done for the prilimnary exam which are to be
conducted buy UPSC on 26 May, and by Uttar Pradesh public service
commission on 9th June? In UPSC there is a problem with the time, as
they provide only 10 minutes per hour while while as per MSJ
guidelines 20 minutes should be provided per hour. Similar is the case
of Uttar Pradesh public service commission with the regard to extra
time, more over U.P public service commission only allows 12th class
student to be the writer in prilimnary exam. How discriminatory it is!

Re: [AI] Why the Delay in Appointing RCI Chairman

2013-05-02 Thread SC Vashishth
Dear Murali,

Thanks for bringing this issue on a public forum as AI. There has been an
effort from certain quarters to sideline the competent blind people from
higher positions. Ministry of Social Justice, Govt. of India did not allow
similar efforts to affect their decision during the selection of Mr. Pincha
- a person with blindness as Chief Commissioner- Disabilities and we all
see how effective he is in resotoring and promoting the rights of persons
with disabilities.

I am sure even this time such efforts will not succeed and we may see Mr.
Mittal as the next Chairman of the RCI as per the recommendations of the
selection committee appointed by ACC. If that doesn't happen by any chance,
then it would be loud and clear that ACC's decision was influenced by
certain hidden considerations/vested interests.

I hope you are also aware that the post in question has been kept as
"Honorary" for no valid reasons. The government expects the Chairperson -
RCI to fulfill such an important role but wants to pay nothing while his
counter parts such as Chairperson National Trust or the Chief Commissioner-
Disabilities are paid as per their ranks. Why this injustice and step
brotherly treatment with the Chairperson Rehabilitation Council of India?

Now we understand, why the Govt. has been unable to find a susbstitute for
our beloved Maj. Gen Ian Cardozo (Retd) who continues to hold the post for
past 8 years without getting any penny for the selfless service. This is
high time that the issue of full salaries to the Chairperson of RCI be also
addressed by the Government. Why should such an important post that affect
the rehabilitation of over 70 million persons with disabilities in India be
"Honorary"?

I fully support the timely PIL by Mr Rugta and am sure will put a check on
such influences that might be trying to sway the ACC in their favour
against the merit considerations.

Best,

Subhash Chandra Vashishth

Re: [AI] Be Alert while looking for Cyted Assistance at out-door

2013-05-02 Thread Sagar Sodah
Continuing from previous mail i wrote, i thought an example would help.

When i am in a buffet, which could be in a restaurant or most of the time
it is at conferences/seminars. Whoever is with me would generally ask me to
sit and offer to fix my plate for me and bring it to me. They would ask me
what i wanted. But how could i tell without knowing what is available.

So i make a it a point, to ask them to tell me what each dish has, and help
me by serving it to me on my plate. I carry my plate on my own and go
through the full line, so i can choose exactly what I want. Inde

Dear All,

I hope that you are all keeping well. On my side, I am keeping absolutely
fine.

So, friends let’s see what is new in the Disability Sector in Mauritius!

1. Service to Mauritius Programme
2. The Service to Mauritius Programme consisting of 300 Degree Holders
and Master Holders to be placed in Government jobs has been
implemented. You will surely remember that 10% of the seats amongst
the 300 seats has been reserved to Disabled Graduates. In view of this
Service to Mauritius Programme I had been called for interview at the
Supreme Court of Mauritius on 4th February 2013. On 26 February 2013 I
had obtained confirmation that I have been retained for the post.
Since 1st March 2013 I work as Legal Research Assistant at the Supreme
Court of Mauritius. The Chief Justice who is the highest judge in the
hierarchy is the judge to hwom I am assigned to. There has been a
positive follow-up by the Ministry of Finance and the Training and
Employment of Disabled Persons Board have sent their officers to
assist me during my interview and my transport arrangement for that
day had been catered for. M sighted colleagues are very disabled
friendly in terms of attitude and are of great help. The whole
personnel of the Court for most of them are welcoming.
3. Blind Peple Association of Amedabad
4. The National Council for Rehabilitation of Disabled Persons Board
(NCRD) of Mauritius had signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the
Blind People Association of Amedabad in October 2012. In view of this
signed MOU a strict collaboration has started between Mauritius and
the Blind People Association. In view of the above, two resource
persons from the Blind People Association in the persons of Mrs.
Nandini Rawal and Ms. Kinnari Desai were in Mauritius to deliver a
leadership course to the members of the Woem with Disabilities Forum
of Mauritius. The Women with Disabilities Forum is a national forum
regrouping all the disabled girls and disabled women of Mauritius. The
Chairperson of the Women with Disabilities Forum of Mauritius is Ms.
Nalini Ramsamy who is physically disabled. The Leadership course were
on 3 days, namely, on 24th April, 25th April and 26h April 2013. The
course has been a very interactive one with interesting hared
knowledge in leadership. The Human Resource Manager as well as the
Master and Registrar of the Supreme Court have been very cooperative
and have awarded me the 3 days release to allow me to attend the 3
days training. The Ministry of Social Security is sending my realease
requests directly to the Human Resource Manager of the Supreme Court
which allows me to continue to participate in the activities organised
by the authorities for the disabled community.
I am happy of my job and I appreciate to be in a daily integrated
working environment.

Re: [AI] Urgent: Writing semester exams on computer using Jaws

2013-05-02 Thread Amar Jain
Another useful tip is to save your answer sheet as PDF, and make sure
when you finish writing everything, justify your text, it looks good
as the alignment is proper. Decide what font size you want to keep.
Times New Roman as a font type would be my recommendation. Saving in
pdf would help as then there is lesser chance of tampering with answer
sheet during printouts.

Regards

National Federation of the Blind Comments on Amazon Kindle App

Baltimore, Maryland (May 1, 2013): The National
Federation of the Blind (NFB), the nation's leading advocate for
access to technology and education for the blind, commented today on
Amazon's incorporation of new accessibility features into its
application for the iPhone and other devices using Apple's iOS
operating system.

Dr. Marc Maurer, president of the
National Federation of the Blind, said: "We are pleased that Amazon
has taken advantage of the inherent accessibility of Apple products
and Apple's clear guidelines for creating accessible applications by
finally releasing a version of its Kindle app that allows blind
readers to access Kindle content on Apple devices. Continued
improvement of this app is needed, however, in order to make it
appropriate for use in educational settings, and Amazon must also
make its Kindle devices fully accessible. Amazon should also make
its future software, devices, and content available to the blind when
these products are released to the general public rather than
implementing accessibility at an unspecified later time. Today's app
release is a significant step on the journey to full access to Kindle
content by the blind, but that journey is not over, and the National
Federation of the Blind will not rest until its completion."

The National Federation of the Blind has advocated for full access to
Kindle devices and Kindle e-books since Amazon introduced the
Kindle. Most recently, NFB members staged
an informational protest in
front of Amazon's Seattle headquarters to explain why Kindle e-books
should not be used in schools because they do not provide equal
access to all of the same information and features by both blind and
sighted students. For more information on this issue, please visit
http://www.nfb.org/kindle-books.

About the National Federation of the Blind

The National Federation of the Blind (NFB) is the oldest, largest,
and most influential nationwide membership organization of blind
people in the United States. Founded in 1940, the NFB advocates for
the civil rights and equality of blind Americans, and develops
innovative education, technology, and training programs to provide
the blind and those who are losing vision with the tools they need to
become independent and successful. We need your support. To make a
donation, please go to www.nfb.org.

CHENNAI, INDIA: In

had developed the system himself. However, what should have been a turning
point in the lives of hundreds of students with similar disabilities turned out
to be a one-off case. Now, seven years later, the Central Board of

Re: [AI] Urgent: some doubts regarding writing semester exams on computer using jaws

2013-05-02 Thread Kartik Sawhney
Hi Mohit,

Logistics vary from one examining authority to the other. Check with
your university/college regarding the same.

Personally, I've taken my exams on the computer since class II. My
school used to provide me the softcopy of the question paper, and then
I used to type out the responses in a separate file. My answer sheet
would then be printed by the school IT official, and submitted to the
concerned subject teacher for evaluation. I took my Board Exams in
classes X and XII the same way However, in class XII, the Board did
not provide the softcopy, and hence the question paper was either
scanned (English and Computer Science) or typed by me (Physics,
Chemistry and Mathematics).

If you wish to receive a softcopy, I would recommend contacting the
college immediately, since they might create problems later on.

Another alternative way could be a test reader reading out the
question paper for you, and you typing out the responses.

Regarding identifying information such as roll No. etc., you could
either print it on the top of your answersheet or have your
reader/invigilator write it for you on the title page of the
answerbook. This depends on the nature of the examination that you're
taking.

All the best!

Hi,

Even I have decided to give my next college exams on the computer. This will
enable me to assess my typing speed, accuracy, etc. It will enable me to decide
which amongst the two methods would be the best for final exams..
I guess you'll have to find a reader to read the question papers. You should
try taking out a few printouts at home so that you won't have any problems
during the actual exam.

[AI] Why the Delay in Appointing RCI Chairman

2013-05-02 Thread National Platform For The Rights of the Disabled (NPRD)
*National Platform for the Rights of the Disabled*

*4, Ashoka Road, New Delhi*

*Tel. 9868768543; email: nprd...@gmail.com*

May 2, 2013

*Press Statement*

* *

* *

The National Platform for the Rights of the Disabled is dismayed at the
inordinate delay in the filling up of the vacancy of the Chairman of the
Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI).

The RCI, a statutory body, was established consequent to the passage of the
RCI Act in 1992. The RCI is mandated to regulate the training policies and
programmes in the field of rehabilitation of persons with disabilities; to
bring about standardization of training courses for professionals dealing
with persons with disabilities; to prescribe minimum standards of education
and training of various categories of professionals/personnel dealing with
people with disabilities etc.

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) had constituted a Selection
Committee for the Chairman of the RCI and a recommendation was made in June
2012. As per the recommendation of the Committee Dr. Sudesh Mukhopadhyay,
Mr. Ajay Kumar Mittal and Dr. Manoj Kumar were ranked 1, 2 & 3
respectively. However, since Dr. Sudesh Mukhopadhyay is not eligible
because of her being over age, the person ranked no. 2, Mr. Ajay Kumar
Mittal, who is a blind person, should automatically have been considered
for the post.

As the government was delaying the appointment, the National Federation of
the Blind through its General Secretary and Senior advocate, S K Rungta,
filed a PIL in the Delhi High Court. Mr. Rungta contended that the
department is trying to bypass the committee’s recommendation. He
apprehended that the person ranked No. 3, may be appointed.

The Delhi High Court bench headed by Chief Justice V.K. Jain in its order
of April 3, 2013 directed the Department of Disability Affairs to forward
the recommendation of the Select Committee to the ACC within three weeks
and observed that the “selection will be normally based on the
recommendation of the Selection Committee”.

There are genuine apprehensions that efforts are afoot to mislead the ACC
against the selection of Mr. Ajay Kumar Mittal. Any attempt at doing so
will amount to denial of Mr. Mittal’s rights, denial of equal opportunities
for persons with disabilities and against established conventions. It will
also be a violation of the UN Convention on Rights of Persons with
Disabilities and the Persons with Disabilities Act, 1995.

Re: [AI] Be Alert while looking for Cyted Assistance at out-door

2013-05-02 Thread Rajesh H Mehta
Rajeshjee,
I definitely agree with your view points regarding Hindi OCR. However,
isn’t it some what doable?
Think about 5 years back story and look at today. Are we not better of
incase if we use technology?
Let me give you 1 more example which really helped me. I am referring
talking BP machine. It really helped me on very critical moment when I had
to call doctor to check my mother. Though I know many a time it does not
give accurate reading but it certainly gives you some idea and also alert
you from any future miss half.
In the end I am of the strong believer that some thing is better then
nothing”
Incase if we don’t use what we have how would we improve our technology?

Regards

Re: [AI] Be Alert while looking for Cyted Assistance at out-door

2013-05-02 Thread Asudani, Rajesh
Though many of the hindi/marathi hard copy documents could be scan and red by
VI their onself why do we needs to be dependant on sighted?

I disagree with this.
Hindi OCR is far from perfect, and is not wholly accessible, nor free...

It is very sad to learn following what happen with my own classmate Amjad,
however flick side is what shall we do? Can we stay without sighted
assistance? No doubt, in last 10 years technology has brought revolution
in our life but how many of VI even today expose to this?
My experience even today for many things which could be done through
technologies VI still taking help of sighted.
Look at the example of paying payment or doing any kind of financial
transaction through on line. Even though many of the banking sides are
accessible, does all the VI use them? Though many of the hindi/marathi
hard copy documents could be scan and red by VI their onself why do we
needs to be dependant on sighted?
I know we can not completely stay without sighted assistance and doing
that would be inviting ourself a ideological world. However, can not we
reduce the dependency?
What stops us doing that???
