The first batch for BFSI [Banking and Financial Service Industries]
Training for the
Visually impaired will commence on 13-05- 2019 at Guindy Industrial
Estate, Chennai.

Objectives:
Providing professional training courses for securing employability
Skill set to get employed in BFSI and other prime sectors.
Skill Set Training will be provided focus on Banking and  testing jobs.
Hands on experience will be given to every trainee in BFSI and testing sectors.

Introduction to BFSI Training:

Introduction to Career Centric Computer Training:
Computer Training for the visually impaired is the greatest form of
empowerment which opens up the world to them: a world of information
(aiding research, education, daily living, recreation), people, jobs,
books (print to voice).
Computer training involves training on Computer Basics, MS office
applications, Internet using the JAWS & NVDA screen reading software
which are talking software that aid the visually impaired to “hear”
everything that a sighted person would “read”.
This is an initiative from (KVTC)collaborated With ENABLE INDIA team
conducting course towards giving quality computer training for
visually impaired people who have completed their studies and are
seeking job, and those who want to continue their studies in the field
of computers.
Main goal of this course is to make the candidate employable by
providing computer knowledge and making them efficient in using
computers independently. This will increase the employment
opportunities, betterment of existing job, and for higher studies.
Course Contents:
1.  Life skills and life education training for both career and life:
personal competencies, overcoming disability, managing conflicts,
effective work habits etc.
2.  English training: spoken and written communication, business
communication and heavy emphasis is to enhance spellings.
3.  Computers: basic computers with Microsoft Office applications like
MS word, excel outlook, PowerPoint, and internet.
4.  Miscellaneous concepts like scanning and reading, Printing
documents, CD Burning, Physical connections of computer, trouble
shooting etc…
5.  Employability training: disability specifics which will enable
candidates to overcome their disability, General employability
fundamentals which will enable them to work efficiently at

different jobs.

Karna Vidya Technology Centre (KVTC) is a non-profitable organization
working ceaselessly with the moto: “Empowerment and economic
independence of the visually impaired through employment”. In order to
provide an independent and accessible learning atmosphere and training
courses for better employment beyond teaching, KVTC has been
conducting various assistive technology aided certificate courses for
the visually impaired.
The courses offered by KVTC shall be aligned with the industry,
government work-profiles requirements.  The goal is to lead the
visually impaired to a job opportunity with the guidance of Enable
India in IT sector, Government and other Sectors. The KVTC, in
partnership with Enable India, is now offering Career Centric Computer
Training Course (CCCT) in Chennai commencing on 20thOctober 2015.

KVTC Employment Achievements
So far, we had trained around 70candidates. Of them, 16 have got
placed in different job positions such as a Clerk, Tele-caller and
Testing Engineers.

Companies Placed:
Tata Consultancy Services, Chink synq, IP INFO SOLUTIONS, Aegis
Limited, Idea Tamil Voice Process and Dialog in the Dark.

We are also offering Competitive Examination Prepratory Course (CEPC)
to facilitate training for Government jobs.

Introduction to Career Centric Computer Training (CCCT):
Computer Training for the visually impaired is the greatest form of
empowerment which opens up the world to them: a world of information
(aiding research, education, daily living, recreation), people, jobs,
books (print to voice).
Computer training involves training on Computer Basics, MS office
applications, Internet using the JAWS & NVDA screen reading software
which are talking software that aid the visually impaired to “hear”
everything that a sighted person would “read”.

This is an initiative towards giving quality computer training for
visually impaired people who have completed their studies and are
seeking job.
Main goal of this course is to make the candidate employable by
providing computer knowledge and making them efficient in using
computers independently. This will increase the employment
opportunities, betterment of existing job, and for higher studies.
Course Contents:
1.  Life skills and life education training for both career and life:
personal competencies, overcoming disability, managing conflicts,
effective work habits etc.
2.  English training: spoken and written communication, business
communication and heavy emphasis is to enhance spellings.
3.  Computers: basic computers with Microsoft Office applications like
MS word, excel, outlook, power point and internet.
4.  Miscellaneous concepts like scanning and reading, Printing
documents, CD Burning, Physical connections of computer, trouble
shooting etc…
5.  Introduction to Daisy & Training on Daisy.
6.  Employability training: work ethics  which will enable candidates
to overcome their disability, General employability fundamentals which
will enable them to work efficiently on the computer,
job simulation and real – life projects which will help candidates to
know about different jobs.
7.  Employability Projects: social integration project , accessible for
medical kit and community project.
8.  Fun and Entertainment
Material Used:
1.  Computers with
a.  Windows 7 operating system and
b.  Office 2007,
c.  Jaws 14
d.  Latest NVDA
e.  Audio and DAISY players
2.  Audio files for Theory
3.  Training manuals and Student manuals (Student manuals are available
in English, Hindi and Tamil).
4.  Self paced exercises for each concept.
5.  Designed Curriculum with computer concepts and employment aspects.

8.  Spelling Tool
9.  Real world exposure through role simulations on the computer

Course Structure:
1st -4th month: basic training shall be provided effectively to make
them well-qualified for their desired job position
5th month: Candidates equipped with employability Skillset, shall be
taken to internship 6th month: Job placement

Assessment Pattern:
Weekly tests and final assessment test will be conducted and marks
will be awarded accordingly.

Activities:
•   Field visits to the IT MNCs, banks, shopping malls, ATM’s etc where
candidates learn about the usage of computers in different fields.
•   Work shadowing in the companies
•   Real work which will give hands-on experience of working in a 
company/NGO

to my knowledge, this new PWD bill is not a strong or effective one
because after going through some portions and after having discussions
with other disability groups, i came to understand that some of the
disabilities are not given full independance with reference to shaping
or deciding their rights.
moreover, 5% for whole disabled community is not an appreciatable
percentage when we take even the rough sensus into account.
so in my opinion, this bill should be again refered to the public
forum and should make necessary changes in line with UNCRPD

 Lodhi Road Is buzz with More than 150 Blind students, professionals,
 Researchers, Librarians, and of Course Almost All major NGOs Heads
 active in the Field. My Library Head is also here, I'm so glad...
 3 Security Guards seemed to have been sensitized to help blind
 visitors. And all are greeted by Tags like Madam/sir here not there.

 The venue doesn’t look friendly for people with locomotor disability,
 and Stairs are every where to facilitate your movement In fact, Lunch
 is being served where one has to go 14 stairs down... and again its
 self-serving system. Alas blindness... Main attraction for people like
 me are Many bureaucrats Including Stuti Kakkar, Secretary Department
 of Disability Affairs Well-groomed, welcoming jesture and easy to
 interact thanks to Miss Priya, one of the employees at IICC who helped
 me meet her and gave little description of her  jestures. She sounded
 determined to do something new which has never happened. Then I
 thought was there Department of Disability Affairs before? Anyway she
 discussed many fascets of Department’s innitiatives and promise to do
 more like monitoring of Braille presses…and of course agreed to assist
 me in my field work and visit to her office.

 Now itstime to get ready to pay attention to speakers. I just opened
 the braille sheets given to me checked the list and started thinking
 how this plenary sessions are structured, and those who are going to
 speak in the morning, will get attention from the Government
 bureaucrats because these special individuals are not going to stay
 longer to the venue... So this politics of visibility is well
 manefested there. And I know it happens everywhere. Afterall, all can
 not speak in the morning you know...

 Braille sheets are well-dotted and found names like: Dr Sam, Mr
 Depender , Mr George, Mr Prashant Verma, Mr Ketan Kothari, Mr Nirmal
 Verma, Mr A.K  Mittal, And others.  not only this, sessions are gonna
 be chaired by People like Mr SK Rungta, Madam Kanchan Pamnani Mr Akhil
 Paul, Mr Rama Krishna and others. my laptop is opened now to note:
 what these speakers have to say whom majority of us know as leading
 from the front. All are conversing in English 'language of the
 priviliged'. But in the backside Students are talking in Hindi but
 very slowly, and when any known face crosses these young adults they
 also start murmering in english. Lappy is charged it will work till
 five hours at least… First Plenary session is on Accessibility to
 Banking Services.

 This session is chaired by Mr SK Rungta Who started off by saying:
 ‘Technology can deceive us’, And hailed Aadhar as critical for banking
 services. Then I recalled recent Supreme Court Order which
 categorically states: ‘Aadhar Card is not mendatory for availing
 government  services’.

 after 2008 RBI circular said: blind people are to be treated at par
 with others. IBA in November that year, came out with guidelines which
 said for the operationalization of the guideline. Then in 2009 we had
 an RBI circular providing 1third ATMs accessible for blind people. How
 do we make sure that thinks are inclusive. Today almost 70 percent
 people uses mobile. Banks are fast moving in to automation. There is a
 bigger challenged in convincing people. How technology is enabler we
 need to understand.

With the help of latest technology, Karna Vidya aims to make
information more accessible to visually-impaired students. T.S. Atul
Swaminathan reports

A new centre for visually impaired students called Karna Vidya
Technology Centre has been started by Rotary Club of Madras Coromandel
(RCMC), in collaboration with Rotaract Club of Drishti.
Equipped with 20-seat computer classroom, the Centre trains students
from weaker sections, to enhance their education.
“Karna Vidya means learning through hearing. Visually challenged
students have enormous capacity to learn and gather information
through their keen hearing capabilities,” said G. Balasubrahmanyan,
former president, RCMC.
The assistive technologies makes information accessible to them. “The
Centre, which began in May this year, uses screen magnifier for
partially visually-impaired and conversion of information in to
accessible format through Digital Access Information System,” he
added.

Enabled Services as soft-skills trainer and technical trainer. We are
planning to introduce courses for Post-Graduate and Doctorate students
and professional and business courses such as Law and Information
Technology,” said K. Raghuraman, Co-ordinator, KVTC, and Professor,
Department of English, Government Arts College for Men, Nandanam.
Plans are in the pipeline to prepare students for State Government
examinations in various departments and establish a placement cell.
“We want to create an independent and accessible learning atmosphere
and impart professional and technical training programmes to enhance
students’ competence. After the basic courses we will introduce
advanced ones focusing on employment,” he added.
KVTC is a Rotary Foundation Grant Project in partnership with Rotary

friends i have started using jaws 64 with windows 7
but here is a peculiar problem with jaws
now when i use the keys in the keyboard, jaws speaks the full sentence
and only then it goes to the next line.

key functions whenever we press

A descendant of India's last Mughal emperor has been rescued from a
life of penury in Calcutta by getting a job with the state-run Coal
India.

Madhu is the illiterate great-great-granddaughter of emperor Bahadur
Shah Zafar and has been employed to run errands in Coal India's
offices.

A letter of employment will be formally handed over to her by the coal
minister at a function in Calcutta next month.

She and her mother currently run a tea stall in the slums of Calcutta.

Rehabilitation

It will be great to have Madhu working for us. Actually, it will be a
great tribute to the last Mughal emperor who played a key role during
the first war
of independence in 1857, Coal India Chairman Partha Bhattacharyya said.

Bahadur Shah Zafar

Bahadur Shah Zafar was the last of a long line of Mughal emperors

The move by Coal India follows sustained efforts by a Delhi-based
journalist Shivnath Jha, who launched a campaign to rescue her from
poverty.

Madhu's cause was one of several highlighted by Mr Jha and his wife
Neena in an initiative to rehabilitate descendants of the forgotten
heroes of India's
independence wars.

Mr Jha told the BBC that he first hit upon this idea when he tried to
raise funds for one of India's greatest classical musicians, Bismillah
Khan, earlier
in the decade.

We published a pictorial biography of Bismillah Khan and raised some
funds. After his death, we institutionalised this movement, Mr Jha
said.

Last year, he persuaded India's former Railway Minister Laloo Prasad
Yadav to help the descendants of Tantia Tope, one of the leaders of
the 1857 mutiny
which many Indians say was in fact the country's first war of independence.

'Barely survive'

Two of his great granddaughters were given employment by the
Container Corporation of India on Mr Yadav's intervention, Mr Jha
said.

The pair live in poverty in one of the most crowded cities in the world

In 2009 Mr Jha began promoting the cause of Sultana Begum, the
poverty-stricken widow of Muhammad Bedar Bakht - a direct descendant
of Bahadur Shah Zafar
- who died in 1980.

Ms Begum has five daughters - all are married except for Madhu, her
youngest daughter.

My other daughters and their husbands are poor people, they barely
survive, so they cannot help us, she said. We have been living, but
God knows how.


The tea shop run by Sultana and her daughter earns the pair a
subsistence income.

Mr Jha said that he hoped to provide the pair with more funds by
donating money raised from the sale of a book about Indian prime
ministers.

Another industrialist-philanthropist, Madhusudan Aggrawal, owner of
Ajanta Pharmaceuticals has also offered help.

Mr Aggrawal has promised a house for Sultana and a small job for her
in a school run by his company, Mr Jha said.

If all works out, Sultana Begum and her daughter can surely look
forward to moving out of the slums of Howrah, a decrepit industrial
area.

Bahadur Shah Zafar was placed on the throne in 1837. He was the last
of a line of Mughal emperors who ruled India for three centuries.

In 1857, when Indian soldiers mutinied against their British masters,
Bahadur Shah Zafar was declared their commander-in-chief.

Mr Zafar was exiled to Rangoon after the British crushed the mutiny in
1858, where he lived for five years until his death at at the age of
87.

friend, it's really well written article.
as you have stated the importance of braille literacy, we in chennai
conducted  braille reading and writing competitions to
mark the occasion of the bi-centenary year of louie braille for
students ranging from primary to highersecondary level.
this is well recieved by everyone and totally 45 schools participated
including the open schools and
99 students displayed their skills.
the  most important feature in this competition is that we have
recorded the reading competition simultaneously inorder to study the
status of both the braille and the reading skill of the students.
We have the cassettes for a deep analisis and thought of using them as
samples for future researches.
but the results are very disheartening because as the student reaches
the higher level he forgets the braille itself and
feels proud to say that he doesn't know Braille
But one must understand that Braille deepens one's knowledge and
Computer widens one's knowledge.
so let us try to promote braille literacy at all levels as much as we could.

 read was to look

 A young French boy named Louis Braille thought otherwise. Blind from
 the age of three, young Louis desperately wanted to read. He realized

 disability. And he was determined to find the key to this door for
 himself, and for all

 Louis' father often used sharp tools to cut and punch holes in the leather.
 One of the tools he used to makes holes was a sharp awl. An awl is a
 tool that looks like a short pointed stick, with a round, wooden
 handle. While playing
 with one of his father's awls, Louis' hand slipped and he accidentally
 poked one of his eyes. At first the injury didn't seem serious, but
 then the wound
 became infected. A few days later young Louis lost sight in both his eyes.
 But as the days went by Louis learned to adapt and learned to lead an
 otherwise normal life.
 As he grew older, he realized that the small school he attended did
 not have the money and resources he needed. He heard of a school in
 Paris that was especially
 for blind students. Louis didn't have to think twice about going. He
 packed his bags and went off to find himself a solid education.
 When he arrived at the special school for the blind, he asked his
 teacher if the school had books for blind persons to read. Louis found
 that the school
 did have books for the blind to read.
 These books had large letters that were raised up off the page. Since
 the letters were so big, the books themselves were large and bulky.
 More importantly,
 the books were expensive to buy. He could feel each letter, but it
 took him a long time to read a sentence. It took a few
 seconds to reach each word and by the time he reached the end of a
 sentence, he almost forgot what the beginning of the sentence was
 about. Louis knew
 there must be a better way.
 There must be a way for a blind person to quickly feel the words on a
 page. There must be a way for a blind person to read as quickly and as
 easily as a
 sighted person.
 That day he set himself the goal of thinking up a system for blind
 people to read. He would try to think of some alphabet code to make
 his 'finger reading'
 as quick and easy as sighted reading.
 One day chance walked in the door. Somebody at the school heard about
 an alphabet code that was being used by the French army. This code was
 used to deliver
 messages at night from officers to soldiers. The messages could not be
 written on paper because the soldier would have to strike a match to
 read it.
 The light from the match would give the enemy a target at which to
 shoot. The alphabet code was made up of small dots and dashes. These
 symbols were raised
 up off the paper so that soldiers could read them by running their
 fingers over them. Once the soldiers understood the code, everything
 worked fine.
 Louis got hold of some of this code and tried it out. It was much
 better than reading the gigantic books with gigantic raised letters.
 But the army code was still slow and cumbersome. The dashes took up a
 lot of space on a page. Each page could only hold one or two
 sentences. Louis knew
 that he could improve this alphabet in some way.
 Louis sat down to think about how he could improve the system of dots
 and dashes. He liked the idea of the raised dots, but could do without
 the raised dashes.
 As he sat there in his father's leather shop, he picked up one of his
 father's blunt awls. The idea came to him in a flash. The very tool
 which had caused
 him to go blind could be used to make a raised dot alphabet that would
 enable him to read.

 I am sure you are aware that India has ratified the UNCRPD which in its
 Article 9, recognizes access to Information and Communication as a right for
 persons with disabilities to enable them to enjoy their fundamental
 freedoms. You are also aware that the IT industry in India is growing at a
 jet setting pace. However, despite the fact that India is racing along the
 so called Information Highway, persons with disabilities are once again
 being left behind!! India is home to the world's largest number of visually
 impaired people and yet nearly 99.99% of Indian websites are not accessible
 to them. Websites in India are still not disabled friendly even though the
 World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) came out with detailed guidelines on the
 subject several years ago!

 We took up this issue with NASSCOM on November 7, 2008 at a meeting with its
 Chairman, Mr. Som Mittal. He assured us that he would ensure that necessary
 steps would be taken in order to correct this; starting with them getting
 their own website accessible!! He also mentioned the upcoming NASSCOM
 National Leadership Forum, 2009. We wrote a letter to him on January 7, 2009
 requesting for time at the summit which would enable us to bring up the
 issue with a larger audience; a reminder was sent as well. But there has
 been no response to date despite following up with numerous phone calls. We
 would not have been so upset and angry if they had regretted and told us of
 their inability to accommodate us, but to not even acknowledge is downright
 unacceptable. Some of you may think that we are making a mountain out of a
 molehill, but let's not forget that this is an issue which should have been
 addressed years ago.

 I am sure you will agree that it is an issue that cannot be neglected any
 further. Don't these IT wizards know that web accessibility is mandated in
 the civilized world? They design disabled friendly websites for their
 western clients but conveniently forget about access when it comes to India!

 It is time that we got tough. I am writing this to some of you based in
 Mumbai and making an appeal for a dharna. The Forum is from 11th to 13th
 February and the dharna needs to be done only on Day I of the Forum, outside
 the Hotel where it is being held – Grand Hyatt. It would be a peaceful
 dharna marking our protest at a place that the police / hotel allocate us.
 But it has to ensure visibility and our protest must be registered. Whatever
 the outcome, protest we must.

 I request you to endorse this idea and lend your support. I trust that you
 will revert to me by return mail or as soon as possible.

 My dear Accessindians

 I had on sunday called upon all accessindians in Mumbai to get in touch. A
 lot of you did and I am touched with the response. After all it is
 Accessindians who are being affected the most.



 You have realised the importance of web accessibility and how we are being
 treated or should I say ignored. Based on the response we have received from
 you we have decided to go ahead with the Dharna. all out efforts are being
 made to make the Dharna successful. Other disability groups will join us. We
 will just be holding placards and banner, maybe a little slogan shouting,
 some press interviews etc.



 A lot of you told me to include people from Pune. Yes Punites and all others
 are also welcome.Mumbaites you have to show your strength. We will also need
 some sighted volunteers. I would request each of you to call and let me know
 if you will come. We need to do this for ourselves. How long will someone
 else fight our battles.

 Most of you who know me will be surprised that I am taking this route for
 this cause but we have tried my regular route of explaining the problem to
 the topmost person but to no avail. Therefore the Dharna route will gain us
 visibility and some consideration.

 CHENNAI: With security threats increasing across the world, the focus is now
 on checks. Vehicles, usually cars and two-wheelers, are often used by
 terrorists
 to trigger blasts. After the Mumbai terror attack, all hotels, airports,
 offices and other important locations across the country have made
 inspection
 of vehicles entering their premises mandatory.

 Most hotels use an inclined mirror to search for items hidden under the
 vehicle. Given the low flexibility of the manually-held mirror, such an
 inspection,
 however, does not allow an elaborate view of the entire undercarriage. So
 this inspection system is susceptible to human errors.

 Kapil Bardeja and Anoop Prabhu, founders of the Delhi-based KritiKal
 SecureScan Pvt Ltd., a subsidiary of KritiKal Solutions Pvt. Ltd, (an Indian
 Institute
 of Technology-Delhi incubated company), have come up with a state-of-the-art
 undervehicle scanner ZenScan, which can be either embedded in or mounted
 on the ground.

 ZenScan - Advanced Vehicle Scanner System - is computer vision-based. It
 uses a high-end, electromechanical and camera-based assembly to image the
 underbelly
 of the moving vehicle at the entrance of any high security installation.

 As a vehicle passes over this scanner, the camera sees through a small slit
 and captures line-by-line images, and stitches them together to form a
 composite
 undervehicle image without the need for stopping it at the entrance. This
 helps in detecting bombs, explosives, and contraband. The image gets
 displayed
 on the guard's monitor in real time.

 The scanner comes with an option of two or three additional auxiliary
 cameras to capture hard-to-view angles such as the suspension area and the
 space between
 tyres.

 If the driver image is needed, there is another optional side-view camera,
 which clicks the right-side of the vehicle and captures his or her
 photograph.
 And, there is a frontal camera that not only detects the number plate but
 also reads and tags it with all other details captured. These cameras also
 record
 the date and time of the vehicle crossing the security checkpoint.

 ZenScan has been designed with a fully automated surveillance and access
 control system covering the vehicle, passenger and driver, Mr. Bardeja says.
 There
 are additional software database management modules to help in quick storage
 and retrieval of images as well as related data captured.

 It requires 7-10 days to install the embedded version, while the
 surface-mounted version needs three or four days. The cost of the various
 versions of this
 scanning system ranges between Rs. 17 lakh and 30 lakh.

 who specialised in eye medication, apart from being a sports enthusiast.
 The connect
 was instant, he smiles.
 My wife and my running shoes are the two things that make living my life
 worthwhile.
 The walking stick that people use with so much despair is in fact an object
 that
 has given me so much respect everywhere. That stick has no race, creed or
 class and
 I love the fact, he says.
 This is Takahashi's first trip to Mumbai. I hope to do the run in two hours
 and
 30 minutes. And when I run at the paralympic games in London in 2012, I
 would love
 to run beside a visually impaired competitor from this city, he says.

 marathon, his wife will double as Takahashi's guide for the second half of
 his 42
 km run (a 27-yearold friend of Takahashi will be his guide in the first
 half). The
 interview with TOI over, Takahashi bows to say goodbye—the traditional
 Japanese movement
 suggesting that life can bend you, but whether you break or not is up to
 you.

 this1 simple for every1, i'm not including those here.

 now, you can create a folder with quickmail, with each shortcut

 possibilities are just endless like your imaginations!
