R: Integration with SMS Microsoft and CMDB - BMC: Remedy Discovery Service 7.0 for Microsoft SMS 2003? - Urgent Feedback Please

2007-08-31 Thread gcorgnati
Hi,

We try to do this integration but we fail because the mapping file with the
CMDB 2.0 are not available. Using the Remedy link for SQL Server product and
the SMS2CMDB v1.6 integration Sw we made a easy integration.

The real problem is related to the Sw License, because we need to buy a new
License for the Remedy Link for SQL product !.

2007-08-31 Thread Shellman, David
Check the compatability matrix. I don't believe that 6.3 Server is supported
on XP. You would probably be better off using Win 2K3 Server or one the other
MS OS server versions that are supported.

srms in the licensing file ?

2007-08-31 Thread E. Louise van Hine

I am setting up AR 7.0.1 (I have the latest server patch) with ITSM products,
and found that my Admin tool does not have BMC Remedy SR Management listed in
its licensing. Assuming this is a patch issue, I went to get the
latest client
patches from the Heritage area of the support website, and have failed
to get an
ftp download despite repeated attempts. Has anyone tried to download
ARS 7.0.1

p 4 from BMC support site in the last few days and been successful in getting
the clients? It keeps timing out at the same spot, and the User tool
times out
almost as soon as it starts.

Anyone else besides me having these issues, either the licensing issue or the
FTP download issue?

Re: Can CMDB 2.0 work ITSM 6.0

2007-08-31 Thread Bob Rowe
According to BMC Education as of last March, yes, it will work. And we're
going to be counting on it. We are in the planning stage at the moment, but
we figure this will be the best way to go until all the local organizations
using and planning to be using our Remedy installation will be on-board with
ITIL best practices.

You will need the latest release and patch of ARS 7, the latest patch for
ITSM 6 and the latest release and patch for the CMDB.

On 8/30/07, Rick Cook [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

with both HD 7 and CMDB to be comfortable doing that, then there is no patch
or white paper necessary. If you aren't, there was supposed to be a white
paper issued to lead one through that process.

I have been waiting for such a promised white paper for about a year now,
but it seems to be no longer on the radar, or I think it would be out. You
may be on your own for this one.

OT-Friday Humor - Abbott and Costello

2007-08-31 Thread Sanford, Claire
You may have seen this

You have to be old enough to remember Abbott and Costello, and too old
to REALLY understand computers, to fully appreciate this. For those of
us who sometimes get flustered by our computers, please read on...

If Bud Abbott and Lou Costello were alive today, their infamous sketch,
Who's on First? might have turned out something like this:

ABBOTT: Super Duper computer store. Can I help you?

COSTELLO: Thanks I'm setting up an office in my den and I'm thinking
about buying a computer.

ABBOTT: Mac?

COSTELLO: No, the name's Lou.

ABBOTT: Your computer?

COSTELLO: I don't own a computer. I want to buy one.

ABBOTT: Mac?

COSTELLO: I told you, my name's Lou.

ABBOTT: What about Windows?

COSTELLO: Why? Will it get stuffy in here?

ABBOTT: Do you want a computer with Windows?

COSTELLO: I don't know. What will I see when I look at the windows?

ABBOTT: Wallpaper.

COSTELLO: Never mind the windows. I need a computer and software.

ABBOTT: Software for Windows?

COSTELLO: No. On the computer! I need something I can use to write
proposals, track expenses and run my business . What do you have?

ABBOTT: Office.

COSTELLO: Yeah, for my office. Can you recommend anything?

ABBOTT: I just did.

COSTELLO: You just did what?

ABBOTT: Recommend something.

COSTELLO: You recommended something?

ABBOTT: Yes.

COSTELLO: For my office?

ABBOTT: Yes.

COSTELLO: OK, what did you recommend for my office?

ABBOTT: Office.

COSTELLO: Yes, for my office!

ABBOTT: I recommend Office with Windows.

COSTELLO: I already have an office with windows! OK, let's just say I'm
sitting at my computer and I want to type a proposal. What do I need?

ABBOTT: Word.

COSTELLO: What word?

ABBOTT: Word in Office.

COSTELLO: The only word in office is office.

ABBOTT: The Word in Office for Windows.

COSTELLO: Which word in office for windows?

ABBOTT: The Word you get when you click the blue W.

COSTELLO: I'm going to click your blue w if you don't start with some
straight answers. What about financial bookkeeping? You have anything I
can track my money with?

ABBOT T: Money.

COSTELLO: That's right. What do you have?

ABBOTT: Money.

COSTELLO: I need money to track my money?

ABBOTT: It comes bundled with your computer.

COSTELLO: What's bundled with my computer?

ABBOTT: Money.

COSTELLO: Money comes with my computer?

ABBOTT: Yes. No extra charge.

COSTELLO: I get a bundle of money with my computer? How much?

ABBOTT: One copy.

COSTELLO: Isn't it illegal to copy money?

ABBOTT: Microsoft gave us a license to copy Money.

COSTELLO: They can give you a license to copy money?

ABBOTT: Why not? THEY OWN IT!

A few days later.

ABBOTT: Super Duper computer store. Can I help you?

COSTELLO: How do I turn my computer off?

ABBOTT: Click on START.

Guess wether it's cool or not depends on your politics ...

For sure, that's the way 90% of the world views the US right now, for

Re: Return/Table or Level Dbl-Clk not firing if field has two or more rows SOLVED

2007-08-31 Thread Dwayne Martin
I just now thot of something.

You don't want active links firing on Enter if your field has more than one
row, because you might be putting a carriage return into the text.

Very clever designing!

Is it in the documentation? I don't see it in the manual, but I might not be
looking in the right place.

Greetings,

We have lots of active links that fire on a Return when the cursor is in a
field. But now we suddenly have one that doesn't work. It doesn't even appear
in the log. In the Display tab it is set to 4 rows. If I change that to 1 it
works. But for anything more than 1 row it doesn't.

Is this a bug, or is it as designed, or is it just me?

Without getting into too many details, it is not off the radar and is
still being worked on with the goal of making it publicly available to

make the the white paper and utility available on a case-by-case basis.

Theoretically, it can work. It just takes a modification of how ITSM 6
interacts with the different CDM in v2.0. If you're experienced enough
with both HD 7 and CMDB to be comfortable doing that, then there is no
patch or white paper necessary. If you aren't, there was supposed to be
a white paper issued to lead one through that process.

I have been waiting for such a promised white paper for about a year

ABBOTT: It comes bundled with your computer.

COSTELLO: How do I turn my computer off?

 ABBOTT: Click on START.

Re: OT: Friday Humor...Maybe More Cool than Funny

2007-08-31 Thread Drew Shuller

Tim,

I take that to mean that we should be aware of what political family's
patriarch was a particpant in the coup that Butler exposed, per the
wikipedia article.

Everyone else, if you don't know who that person was then you only
get one guess as to what his last name was. Wealthy Pro-Nazis during that
time continued their activities during and after congresional
investigation, which should give everyone all the hint they would need.

To me, the graphic is particularly offensive as it replaces the Statue of
Liberty's torch (a symbol of enlightenment) with a blazing machine gun
(pretty much the opposite of enlightenment). How anyone in this day and
age could fail to see the irony of a gun-totin' tablet-of-justice
carryin' Statue of Liberty and how that image plays to the view of
America held by today's world boggles my mind.

Norm, I'm 100% for a strong military, and I respect you as a person and
as someone who knows pretty much everything there is to know about
Remedy. But off-topic or not, that graphic should not have been posted to
this forum.

Remedy Reports

2007-08-31 Thread Brad Terhune
Good afternoon list!
It has been some time since I did reporting out of Remedy using the
User tool. I could use a little help.
I messed with it a bit today and have been unable to get the report I
want. I'm wondering if it is possible to do straight out of the
Remedy User tool.

I want to generate a report that lists the number of calls we have
received from each department (every case has a populated department
field). I have also created a drop down menu that has a default of
.25 but can go as high as 40. I want the report to sum the value of
this field by department.

For example:

College of Allied Health
432 cases
Sum of field = 46

College of Engineering
521 cases
Sum of field = 121

And so forth and so on. So far, I can only get the report to list one
case after the other with department listed over and over, the drop
down value listed over and over . . .
I cannot get it to group the department field and work on the relevant
associated data for cases with that department designation. I'm sorry
if this makes no sense.
Thanks in advance for any help you could provide.

I get this error with every form I open up in the user tool. This error

It has the same network name. I just had to change the db password
because I never had the db password for the original dev box heh.

Something else I've tried. I opened the join form that corresponds to
T378 in the admin tool. Moved a field and saved it. Opened the support
console in the user tool and no more error. This only works for join
forms I guess though, I try and do it on a regular data form and get the
error.

Creation of one of the SQL views for the form failed within the
SQL database.
Operation completed successfully, but the SQL view is not in place.

I am not in the mood to argue whether or not the original posting should
have been posted.

However, I am happy to say that this forum should NOT spend any time

As much as those of us in the other 59 countries that receive the list

Norm is on the right track...

Add to that..

You do not need to list the Department field or the drop down menu
field in the field list. You can instead include the $Department$ (or
whatever the field Label/DB Name/Field ID is for the field in
question) in the Statistics tab 'Label' value for that calculation to
see the value that is being grouped on.

Example:

Status: $Status$

HTH.

 Subject: Remedy Reports

Look at the timestamps on the files. Not the timestamps on the

I don't see it on the patch page - it still shows the one from 8/21,
which is the same date as the other executables in that patch.

Just a thought - have you checked to see if all of the metatables are as
they should be? Start with arschema.

I had our DBA check the ownership of the DB and he said it is owned by
ARAdmin. I don't have access to it so I can't verify it's right heh.

Ensure that the DB is owned by ARAdmin...sounds like it might not be owned
properly

It has the same network name. I just had to change the db password because I
never had the db password for the original dev box heh.

Something else I've tried. I opened the join form that corresponds to
T378 in the admin tool. Moved a field and saved it. Opened the support
console in the user tool and no more error. This only works for join forms I
guess though, I try and do it on a regular data form and get the error.

Creation of one of the SQL views for the form failed within the SQL
database. Operation completed successfully, but the SQL view is not in
place. (ARERR 69).

If the SQL server was brought up on another server, does that new server
have the same network name as the old server? Or is it named differently? If
it has a different name, you should use the stored procedure to rename the
SQL database...if you haven't already.

Our database server took a nose dive yesterday. The data was stored on a SAN
so they brought our database up on another server. I set our conf file to
point to the new server and thought everything was good to go.
Until I logged in :(

ARERR [552] Failure during SQL operation to the database : Invalid object
name 'T378'. (SQL Server 208)

I get this error with every form I open up in the user tool. This error in
particular is when I open the support console, the T378 is a join form.

Any ideas where I need to start looking to find the problem?

Re: ARS v7.0.1 Patch 4: New server drop is available

2007-08-31 Thread Easter, David
There was a correction in the server package to address an issue that
negatively affected SLM.

In a nutshell, it used to be that AR System returned 0 when an invalid
Field ID was requested. The 8/21 patch 004 removed that behavior so
that nothing was returned when an invalid Field ID was requested.
However, SLM had been taking advantage of this behavior and so when it
was removed, SLM failed to operate properly. The 8/31 patch 004
re-introduced the historical behavior. So it's now back to the way it
was prior to patch 004.

No other code changes were introduced in the refresh, to the best of my
knowledge.

The version 6.3 Server supported is Windows XP Pro. Is tnsping to
oracle is successful ?

Check the compatability matrix. I don't believe that 6.3 Server is
supported on XP. You would probably be better off using Win 2K3 Server or
one the other MS OS server versions that are supported.
