I've checked by going to Licenses-Add/Remove Licenses and the AR Server
license has no Expire Date, which means it's not expired right?

But when I go to Server Information-Licenses, Fixed Write Licenses is

The license is tied to the MAC address of the host. Make sure that the
hostid (MAC address) you see in the license tool is the one the
license was created under - hopefully you can find the original
license request. You could also try reapplying the license. I suppose
a corruption is possible.

 Hi guys

I have experimented with multiple plugin servers, starting with two to start
 off with.

I have copied the contents of the %ARSYSTEMHOME%\pluginsvr directory to
%ARSYSTEMHOME%\pluginsvr2 and set up the second server to listen on port
9998, then I modified the armonitor.cfg so it contained the following two
 lines:

 C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_12\jre\bin\java -Xmx512m -classpath
 C:\Program Files\BMC Software\ARSystem\pluginsvr;C:\Program Files\BMC
 Software\ARSystem\pluginsvr\arpluginsvr75.jar
 com.bmc.arsys.pluginsvr.ARPluginServerMain -x b00011101496 -i C:\Program
 Files\BMC Software\ARSystem -m

 C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_12\jre\bin\java -Xmx512m -classpath
 C:\Program Files\BMC Software\ARSystem\pluginsvr2;C:\Program Files\BMC
 Software\ARSystem\pluginsvr2\arpluginsvr75.jar
 com.bmc.arsys.pluginsvr.ARPluginServerMain -x b00011101496 -i C:\Program
 Files\BMC Software\ARSystem -m

Also making sure that the jar file containing our ARDBC plugin is in a
 subdirectory to the pluginsvr/pluginsvr2 dir.

The peculiar thing is, that the armonitor never starts either of the servers.
I went further with my experiments, and not even the original pluginsvr will
 start via armonitor now.

I checked armonitor.log and found several lines like:
 Wed Sep 02 19:08:44 2009     No such file or directory : C:\Program
 Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_12\jre\bin\java -Xmx512m -classpath C:\Program
 Files\BMC Software\ARSystem\pluginsvr;C:\Program Files\BMC
 Software\ARSystem\pluginsvr\arpluginsvr75.jar
 com.bmc.arsys.pluginsvr.ARPluginServerMa

I can run both plugins manually at the same time, but when i try to run
either of them through armonitor they fail. In an attempt to get a clean log
under 100.000 kb i backed up and deleted armonitor.log and now it simply
 doesn't log any more

 Any suggestions are very welcome!

I just tested a new button/AL created in Dev Studio p2 on a ARS 7.5 p2
server. The dialog worked as expected. I tested it with both IE 8 and

5.5.27.

Let me know what you find out.

 ** Hi Joe,

 I did a quick test with IE 8 and Firefox 3.5 against a 7.5 ARS/MT. The
dialog popped up and I was not able to click on the main form in the
background. With IE the main form darkened, with Firefox the main form was
black and I could no longer see the fields (I have seen reports of this on
 the list before).

Interestingly enough the main form layout is all messed up in the 7.5 MT,
all of the fields are listed in one column down the left of the form. Our
production MT is still 7.1 and using the 7.1 MT server the form layout is
perfect (multiple rows, vert Nav bar on left, etc). I flushed the cached on
the 7.5 MT without any change. This form was designed on a 7.1 ARS/Admin
Tool and then imported into 7.5 ARS using Dev Studio. I am not sure that
should make much difference since it works fine in the 7.1 MT.

I am yet to investigate this in greater details but this is what I
noticed before breaking off for this long-ish weekend.
If I open a Dialog Box on the Mid-Tier client, (all workflow to do this
was defined using the 7.5 P2 client), the parent window from where the
Dialog Box was called from, does not get 'grayed out' as a background
window, and I can click into it..

I am yet to investigate this in details to check if this functionality
works correctly if developed in 7.1 and then upgraded to 7.5.

Here is what I plan to do as soon as I get to work this coming week. I
intend taking a XML definition file of the Active Link to see what I see in
the open window action options in the definition.. I have a gut feeling that
somehow, I will see the wrong option there. From the development
studio interface I have already verified that I have the 'Dialog' window
type selected, and not Search or whatever.. Just for kicks I also intend to
set a temp field to $OPERATION$ and see what operation the Mid-Tier thinks
 it has to perform...

I was just wondering if any of you have experienced this behavior as
well?? I was planning to export that active link and import it into a test
7.1 system and check on what I see there and if the definition looks bad
there, then correct it there and then import it into the later version and
 see if it fixes anything..

 Joe

PS: I found this strange behavior towards the later part of my last day
at work last week, so didn't have the time to check if it worked on the User
Tool. Anyways this application that I am building will specifically be used
from the web interface, so even if it does work on the User tool I cannot
really use that as a workaround until a fix is found. However I will verify
if it does work from the User interface just for kicks..

Re: CI Viewer: How to open AST form rather than Class form

2009-09-08 Thread Peter Romain
Hi Leonard,

Another alternative would be to add a federated link to access the AST
form in the federation manager.

The downside would be that the users would need to select the federated
link via the launch in context sub menu which is not as intuitive as
selecting the View option directly.

Cheers

Peter

 Hi Peter,

I actually tried that (sort of). I modified the existing [View] menu item
in config.xml, by adding the action=CIRV_NOTIFY_AR attribute.

I couldn't get that to work either. Then I realized that on my test
 system,
Mid-Tier was at v7.01, so I thought that might have something to do with
 it
 so I upgraded to 7.1,

Of course now, my mid-tier didn't come back up after the upgrade, so I'll
 have to troubleshoot that first.

 Thanks,

 Leonard

Subject: RE: CI Viewer: How to open AST form rather than Class form

 Hi Leonard,

I've played around a little in this area but didn't manage to get the
 result
I wanted before needing to move to other things but maybe you can crack
 it.

Try editing the default config.xml file for the CI Viewer entry in the
 Data
 Visualization Definition form.

Add a new line under the MNU_VIEW line to create a new menu item and get
 it
to signal the calling form using action=CIRV_NOTIFY_AR

I could get the menu item added and, using an active link on the CMDB
Console form firing on event with no Runif to display a message showing
 the
$EVENTTYPE$ and $EVENTDATA$ keywords, I could see the instance id of the
 CI
selected in the CI Viewer. I couldn't, however, get the active link to
trigger when my new menu item was selected.

If you can get this to work then you should be able to add the workflow to
the CMDB Console form to open the AST forms.

Look in the CMDB Developers Guide to get more info about this.

Don't forget to re-start Tomcat or whatever other servelet engine you are
using when you modify the attachment in the Data Visualization Definition
 form.

 Best of luck!

 Cheers

 Peter

Subject: CI Viewer: How to open AST form rather than Class form

 Hello list.

 Environment:

 OS: Sun OS 5.9

 DB: Oracle 10.2.0.2.0 - 64bi

 AR Server v7.1 (patch 007)

 AR Mid Tier v7.1.0.007

 Atrium CMDB v2.1.0.005

 ITSM v7.03 (patch 007)

I have a requirement to open the related AST. form rather than the
 BMC.
class form when a user right clicks on a object within the CI Viewer and
selects [View] from the menu to open the CI. The AST. form should only
 be
displayed if launched from within the CI Viewer. The normal BMC. class
form should be opened when interacting directly with the CMDB.

Here's what I have so far:

 1. I added a new (Display Only) attribute to BaseElement named
 z1D_CI_Action

 2. On Window Open, I need to set this field with a value of CI_VIEWER
ONLY if the form was opened from within the CI Viewer.

 a. This is where the problem exist. I cannot figure out how to identify
that the form was opened via the CI Viewer.

 b. With Active Link logging on, the first thing that shows up in the log,
is the On Window Open condition, which is the same regardless to if the
form was open from the CI Viewer or direct interaction with the CMDB.

 3. If I set the flag field with CI_VIEWER, I can then have AL workflow
perform a lookup in SHR:SchemaNames to get the AST form name, then open
that form. Otherwise, the normal BMC class form is opened.

Currently, the flag field is always set, so the AST form is always opened
(which is not what we want). Has anyone successfully implemented such a
customization? Or, does anyone know how I can capture the menu selection
 event from the CI Viewer?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

 Regards,

 Leonard Neely

SV: Java ARDBC plugin failing with multiple instances No suitable driver found for

2009-09-08 Thread Jonas Stumph Stevnsvig
Hi Jarl,

The solution was to create an additional pluginsvr folder with duplicates xml
configuration files, add an extra line in armonitor.cfg to start the additional
plugin server, and restart the ar server process.

Here are my two lines in armonitor.cfg:

C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_12\jre\bin\java -Xmx512m -classpath
C:\Program Files\BMC Software\ARSystem\pluginsvr;C:\Program Files\BMC
Software\ARSystem\pluginsvr\arpluginsvr75.jar
com.bmc.arsys.pluginsvr.ARPluginServerMain -x b00011101496 -i C:\Program

C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_12\jre\bin\java -Xmx512m -classpath
C:\Program Files\BMC Software\ARSystem\pluginsvr2;C:\Program Files\BMC

 driver found for

 Hi guys

I have experimented with multiple plugin servers, starting with two to start
 off with.

I have copied the contents of the %ARSYSTEMHOME%\pluginsvr directory to
%ARSYSTEMHOME%\pluginsvr2 and set up the second server to listen on port
9998, then I modified the armonitor.cfg so it contained the following two
 lines:

 C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_12\jre\bin\java -Xmx512m -classpath
 C:\Program Files\BMC Software\ARSystem\pluginsvr;C:\Program Files\BMC
 Software\ARSystem\pluginsvr\arpluginsvr75.jar
 com.bmc.arsys.pluginsvr.ARPluginServerMain -x b00011101496 -i
 C:\Program Files\BMC Software\ARSystem -m

 C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_12\jre\bin\java -Xmx512m -classpath
 C:\Program Files\BMC Software\ARSystem\pluginsvr2;C:\Program
 Files\BMC Software\ARSystem\pluginsvr2\arpluginsvr75.jar
 com.bmc.arsys.pluginsvr.ARPluginServerMain -x b00011101496 -i
 C:\Program Files\BMC Software\ARSystem -m

Also making sure that the jar file containing our ARDBC plugin is in a
 subdirectory to the pluginsvr/pluginsvr2 dir.

The peculiar thing is, that the armonitor never starts either of the servers.
I went further with my experiments, and not even the original pluginsvr will
 start via armonitor now.

I checked armonitor.log and found several lines like:
 Wed Sep 02 19:08:44 2009 No such file or directory : C:\Program
 Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_12\jre\bin\java -Xmx512m -classpath C:\Program
 Files\BMC Software\ARSystem\pluginsvr;C:\Program Files\BMC
 Software\ARSystem\pluginsvr\arpluginsvr75.jar
 com.bmc.arsys.pluginsvr.ARPluginServerMa

I can run both plugins manually at the same time, but when i try to
run either of them through armonitor they fail. In an attempt to get a
clean log under 100.000 kb i backed up and deleted armonitor.log and
now it simply doesn't log any more

 Any suggestions are very welcome!

Re: 7.5 Install Date Format Problem

2009-09-08 Thread Walters, Mark
The server date format used in filters will be set by the lang/locale of the
environment the server is running under. Are you using a Unix server - if so
check the arsystem script for the LANG setting as it sounds like it may be set
to C. To get a UK date format this will need to be changed to en_GB or similar.

The license is tied to the MAC address of the host. Make sure that the
hostid (MAC address) you see in the license tool is the one the
license was created under - hopefully you can find the original
license request. You could also try reapplying the license. I suppose
a corruption is possible.

Another thought would be to check in your */etc directory to see if you
have any *.lck files - If I remember correcty ... they are hidden files

You may need to try some dynamic SQL. In Books Online (assuming SQL

on Using EXECUTE with a Character String. This will allow you to
dynamically add the date value you require to a SQL statement and
execute
it. Something like below:

DECLARE @CurrentDate datetime
SET @CurrentDate = getdate()

EXEC 'SELECT Assigned_Group, Assignee, Categorization_Tier_1,

Re: AREmial using MAPI protocol

2009-09-08 Thread Craig Carter
Whenever I've received this error, it's generally due to a change of password
on the service account used for the Email Engine. The easiest way to verify
everything is working is to simply log into the server using the Outlook
domain/username service account and then start up Outlook. If you have defined
the profile correctly under that login and you can open Outlook and
send/receive mail in Outlook using that profile, the Email Engine shouldn’t
have any problem connecting to MAPI while the Email Engine service is running
under that account.

Considering you are using Server 2008 and Jordan mentioned MAPI over HTTPS,
this may or may not help you.

Could you give us more information about the implementation:

ARS Version
OS
DB Version
etc.
There are ways to check the hostid of the server and compare that to what is
in the license file/Admin tool etc. Getting some of this information varies
depending on the type of server you have implemented.

I've checked by going to Licenses-Add/Remove Licenses and the AR Server

But when I go to Server Information-Licenses, Fixed Write Licenses is
 only 3.

2009-09-08 Thread Thad K Esser
Enslin,

You'll have to do a set fields to a temp field where 'Entry ID' = $Entry ID
$ to get the old status reason, before you do your push. In ITSM 7.0.3,
there are 31 temporary char fields already defined, named z1D Char1 through
z1D Char31 that you can use. They aren't in any view, but they are there.
Watch out for existing workflow that use those fields, so you don't
overwrite a value that is needed somewhere else (filter phasing can come
into play here)

And, at the risk of making the entire list groan :-) , don't ever use the
'TR.Field' notation as it doesn't work the way that is commonly thought.
The only way to 100% accurately detect a field value change is to use
'Status Reason' != 'DB.Status Reason'.

recovery procedures (restore db from backup, and deleting or renaming file
folders for applications left behind by any failed install) for each step of
the upgrade, ESPECIALLY for the AtriumCore installer which I have only seen
succeed once in our environment with the minimum number of features. Some of
the app installers had to be run a second time to clear all errors; not all of
them will run more than once against the same file structure. I am waiting for
the 7.5.00.003 patches to come out before I try any of this again.

Known problems with AIE, if you have it installed, are that it must be patched
to at least 7.1.00.004 before the upgrade, and if it fails it will delete not
only the instance that you are upgrading but any other instances that are
installed on the same server in the default directory. I don't know what the
prerequisites are if you are coming in from 7.0 instead of 7.1, but I would
expect there to be some.

If you have customized ANY forms or workflow, rehearse and script the
restoration of those customizations as it is a good bet that the various 7.5
upgrade installers will overwrite them. Some, like searching for customers in
ITSM 7.0, have been _extensively_ rewritten and that will break any
customizations that you have made to the module. If you are just using ARS,
not ITSM, the password management code changed a lot from 7.0 to 7.1 and again
to 7.5.

Suggestion: if you have any flashboards that are actively storing History, edit
them to have a current start date and an expiration period, and still watch out
for an explosion of data in the FB:History table. After upgrading from 7.1 to
7.5, and at the end of one month, our FB:History form suddenly gained 41
million records in two days.

My last testing was in July with all patch 002 distributions on Windows x64
platforms, so your experience will be different but some of the pitfalls will
be the same.

Hello all -

I am about to upgrade our system AR System from 7.0 to 7.5, and I was wondering
what challenges, gotchas, tips, things to look out for, what have other
developers experienced. Is this going to be painful uuugh

We will be keeping our existing data, and workflows.

Re: ARS 7.5 Mid-tier Dialog boxes..

2009-09-08 Thread Joe DeSouza
Hi Jason and those interested in testing this for me,

Quick update. I did take the XML def file of the active link that opens the
dialog box.. It looks normal. The windowMode is dialog.

I also created a temp character field like I said I would in my original post,
and things get even more weirder here..

On creating that temp field and setting it to $OPERATION$, and opening the
dialog box on the web, it gets set to the value QUERY.

The odd thing is on the User tool, the client DOES open a dialog box and
doesn't let me click into the parent window. HOWEVER although it does seem to
open a dialog box, the temp field gets set with the value CREATE.. How weird is
that!

Anyone with a bit of time on hand willing to try this out?

My configuration is
DB: Oracle 10 Release 2
OS: Windows 2003
ARS: 7.5 Patch 2
Mid-Tier: 7.5 Patch 2
Web Server: IIS 6.0
Servelet: Tomcat 5.5.25

Joe

PS: Jason, I hope you do not mind my CC. I have been experiencing problems
posting to the list from my yahoo account where some of my posts for some
reason do not show up until much much later. In one case one of my posts showed
up after exactly a month. An August 8th post showed up on Sept 8th..

** Hi Joe,

I did a quick test with IE 8 and Firefox 3.5 against a 7.5 ARS/MT.  The dialog
popped up and I was not able to click on the main form in the background.  With
IE the main form darkened, with Firefox the main form was black and I could no
longer see the fields (I have seen reports of this on the list before).

Interestingly enough the main form layout is all messed up in the 7.5 MT, all
of the fields are listed in one column down the left of the form.  Our
production MT is still 7.1 and using the 7.1 MT server the form layout is
perfect (multiple rows, vert Nav bar on left, etc).  I flushed the cached on
the 7.5 MT without any change.  This form was designed on a 7.1 ARS/Admin Tool
and then imported into 7.5 ARS using Dev Studio.  I am not sure that should
make much difference since it works fine in the 7.1 MT.

I use IIS 6 as the Web Server on Windows 2003 and Tomcat 5.5.25 as the Web
Servelet engine.

I am yet to investigate this in greater details but this is what I noticed
before breaking off for this long-ish weekend. If I open a Dialog Box on the
Mid-Tier client, (all workflow to do this was defined using the 7.5 P2
client), the parent window from where the Dialog Box was called from, does not
get 'grayed out' as a background window, and I can click into it..

I am yet to investigate this in details to check if this functionality works
correctly if developed in 7.1 and then upgraded to 7.5.

Here is what I plan to do as soon as I get to work this coming week. I intend
taking a XML definition file of the Active Link to see what I see in the open
window action options in the definition.. I have a gut feeling that somehow, I
will see the wrong option there. From the development studio interface I have
already verified that I have the 'Dialog' window type selected, and not Search
or whatever.. Just for kicks I also intend to set a temp field to $OPERATION$
and see what operation the Mid-Tier thinks it has to perform...

I was just wondering if any of you have experienced this behavior as well?? I
was planning to export that active link and import it into a test 7.1 system
and check on what I see there and if the definition looks bad there, then
correct it there and then import it into the later version and see if it fixes
anything..

Joe

PS: I found this strange behavior towards the later part of my last day at
work last week, so didn't have the time to check if it worked on the User
Tool. Anyways this application that I am building will specifically be used
from the web interface, so even if it does work on the User tool I cannot
really use that as a workaround until a fix is found. However I will verify if
it does work from the User interface just for kicks.

Hours to Resolve field in Remedy 7 HPD:HelpDesk form?

2009-09-08 Thread Julie L Kanakanui JLKANAKA
Hello, Can anyone tell me if there is an equivalent field in Remedy 7
Incident Management/HPD:HelpDesk form to the Remedy 6 Hours to Resolve
field (which took into account Business Hours, etc)? Maybe I'm just
overlooking it? (hopefully?)

Thanks,

Fwd: Importing file using Run Process using escalation

2009-09-08 Thread Susan Palmer
Hi Rick,

Did you ever get this resolved? I want to do something similar and haven't
done this in the past. I want to be able to schedule it via an escalation.

I have an automatically generated .csv file go to a specific location
nightly. Is your .bat file actually a script that defines the mapping etc?
If it's working for you I'd appreciate a sample of the script.

Appreciate any help you can provide.

Thanks,
Susan

I looked at Igor example and pretty much copied it to work on our
environment, Thanks again all who gave suggestions.

try this (it's working in my Windows):

1. Escalation:
Change Status Field = Import

2. Run Filter on Modify Status = Import:
Run Process
cmd /c F:cd \x\x\x\ImportCompFile.bat

Re: Upgrade AR System from 7.0 to 7.5

2009-09-08 Thread Miguel Suarez Gomez
I'm trying to upgrade from 6.3 to 7.5, getting unsuccessful results on every
time I do it.

The fact is that this kind of migration is supported by the installer
(confirmed in the install guide).

Do you know any known issues or any tips about it?

Miguel

ar system duplicate forms and workflow

2009-09-08 Thread Rocky Rockwell
**

Folks, I have a problem with the AR
System forms and workflow.

I have noticed errors in the arerror.log file that says there is
duplicate forms and workflow. This was a new in install as of 3 months
ago. I do not remembers these errors after the install, but it was 3
months ago. The log file says there is duplicate forms and workflow of
the ar system forms. I have looked in the database and our DBA has
looked and we do not see anything duplicated. This came to light we we
were told that email was no longer being received. I have used the ar
system email messages form and and created a new record and the email
was sent.

This is on a ars 6.3 patch20 system with SQL 2000/MS 2003 server. I
know it is no longer being supported, but I have no choice right now.
Anybody remember anything that can be of help. I know I can reinstall
the email engine, but management have concerns about a reinstall.

Thanks in advance
