Current Host ID of ARS Server always changing

Anyone else having problems with the Current Host ID of ARS Server
always changing? ARS Server is installed on a virtual Windows Server
2008. Checked the MAC Address of the Windows Server and it hasn't
changed.

This causes the license to become invalid, thus, we always have to
reapply a new one.

The solution is to get a license against the physical mac address of your
network card rather than the one reported in the Server Administration console.

Hi

At wwrug09 in las vegas we presented our cti for remedy called via. It is a

We connect with cisco voip and quite a few other telephony and ivr systems.

It is deployed and works with 100 or more agents.

Hugo (or should I say Hyunkel v2.0 or maybe lord_dynasty ? It is
Friday, and I chucked about your email address. :) ),

Make sure that the field ID being used is for a Attachment Field and
not an Attachment Pool field. (The difference is like a Table Column's
field ID vs the Table Field's field ID.)

In the Admin Tool, looking at the field Properties dialog the title of
that window (at least in 6.3) should say Field Properties -
Attachment and NOT Field Properties - Attachment Pool.

You can also tell by the content of the Display tab. The Pool has
a large, grayed out Text widget on the right and the Attachment
field shows 'Data Type' = Attachment.

HTH.

Re: Add-Attachment fail on Filter

2009-12-11 Thread John Bibby
Hi,
I had a similar problem whilst trying to load attachments in ARS version
6.3. It would load the first attachment but not any more in the same filter
processing run. BMC told me it was a known fault and was fixed in 7.x It
wasn't! I solved it by using active links to call the filter processing for
each attachment load.
The other reason why the attachment may not save is the way the run process
line is passed to the server. Try to run filter and sql log and look at the
processing statements to make sure they conform to the syntax of the
command.

Hey Tim,
I'm will be implementing this integration next year. I would like to know how
you do it; issues you come across; why use an alternative; etc.

I've spoken very little with our server team, and from what they tell me, SCOM
comes with its own plug-in that works with Remedy. They also mentioned that I
will have to load some forms (and possibly workflow) onto the remedy server.

As an alternative, you could have SCOM send emails to the
HPD:IncidentInterface_Create form. if the email is formatted correctly, your
incidents will work.

Good Luck.

Re: Get result from stored procedure

2009-12-11 Thread Ashton, Jim (JUS)
In a Set Fields action, where you wish to read the value for a field
from SQL, and you want that value to be obtained from a SQL Server
stored procedure, the following code works:

EXEC pr_Remedy_GetExcelPath '$OS$'

The stored procedure is called pr_Remedy_GetExcelPath, and appears as
follows:

CREATE PROCEDURE pr_Remedy_GetExcelPath
@OS varchar(255)
AS

IF @OS='Windows 2000'
 SELECT 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Excel.exe' FROM
Control

IF @OS='Windows XP'
 SELECT 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office11\Excel.exe' FROM
Control

Its purpose is to determine the correct path from which to execute Excel

depending on the operating system, so the one parameter is a varchar
value
for OS.

Environment:
ARS 6.3
SQL Server 2000

Hope this helps,

Re: CMDB mapping question: dependency vs. component

2009-12-11 Thread Martinez, Marcelo A
Lyle, I appreciate your time and input. After analyzing the table, as you said,
it further confuses the whole idea of what is dependent of what. I think I'm
just going to map it out as it shows on the table and hope for the best... :).
I thought I was going crazy for a moment there..

Here is another questions I'm throwing out there... after I create a
relationship, am I supposed to do anything else? Under reconciliation manager
or anywhere else
The reason I ask is because I am getting an error message after I try to create
a second dependency. For example:
Dependency01: source BMC_Database. destination BMC_ApplicationSystem.
reconciliationidentity RE001E0B1D2454_TEgSueRT2GwhQ45u (gets created
successfully).
Dependency02: source BMC_Database. destination BMC_ApplicationSystem.
reconciliationidentity RE001E0B1D2454_TEgSueRT2GwhQ45u (I get an error). But if
I change a digit in recon..ident it gets created successfully.

Am I missing anything?

Thank you, Marcelo

OK. I see what you're saying. It does seem to list things the way you had
them in your table implying that the destination depends on the source.
Perhaps we were doing things completely backwards... And that just further
confuses the whole idea of what's the parent and what's the child, because
which direction would you expect the arrow to go for a dependency, to the thing
being depended on, or to the item that depends on it?

Concerning Components, I suppose it depends a bit on how you think of
component. While a system is architected of many components, I'm not sure
that they're components in the same sense as the types of things they're
listing in their examples. The components they list here seem to either be
logical (conceptual) components of a logical system (an Application System is a
component of an Application Infrastructure) or physical components of a more
complete physical whole (e.g., a Computer System - perhaps a VM - being a
component of a Mainframe). The other separate types of components that make
up a system (databases, computer systems, etc.) seem to be separate items that
merely depend on each other. That makes more sense to me in my mind.

For example, if you wanted to have something akin to an generic Remedy
Application System (think, Remedy from a customer's perspective), I think that
might actually have two components from the perspective of the system, the User
tool (or maybe the Mid Tier) and the AR Server. Those are the two components
of the system from the perspective of the overall Application System. However,
behind each of those are sub-components that are separate but that depend on
each other. E.g., the AR server depends on the Computer System it runs on and
on the Database, the Database depends on the Computer System the DB server is
running on, etc. Does that make sense at all.

I don't know if I'm conveying what I'm thinking very well. It seems like
you're headed in the right direction, though.

Re: Current Host ID of ARS Server always changing

2009-12-11 Thread Kelly Gatewood
Kali,

Here is a KM from BMC on this issue.

This is an extract from an article discussion the Host ID issue on a

Windows 2008 Server:

When attempting to license the ARServer 7.5 on Windows 2008, the Current

Host ID value reported by the ARServer and displayed in the Add or

Remove Licenses form via the User Tool does not match the physical

address of any network card in the machine and changes each time the

server is rebooted.

Therefore, when licensing the machine this may work initially, but upon

reboot the Current Host ID value changes and the license will become

invalid.

The Current Host ID will always take the format of:

20524153

Note: This problem occurs on both physical machines and virtual machines

where ARS 7.5 is installed on Windows 2008.

The server uses SNMP calls to get the MAC addresses of network adapters

in the system and uses the first of these as the hostid. For some

reason the SNMP calls used return many more entries than there are

physical adapters in the server and the MAC address of most of these are

dynamic and change on reboot.

Product

BMC Remedy AR System Server (version 7.5.00)

Environment

Windows 2008

Solution

The workaround is to ensure that the AR Server is licensed against the

MAC address of a physical network card and NOT the Current Host ID shown

in the User Tool.

The Windows AR Server will consider itself licensed if it has a valid AR

Server license for ANY MAC address on the system, even if this is not

displayed as the primary one.

Therefore, use ipconfig /all from a command line to get the MAC address

- eg;

Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:

   Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :

   Description . . . . . . . . . . . : VMware Accelerated AMD PCNet

Adapter

   Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-50-56-96-38-BD

and use this value (removing the - symbols) as the Host ID for licensing

the AR Server, in this example it would be 0050569638BD (all letters

should be in capitals).

Please use this information to request the proper license for your

server. After you installed the AR server 7.5 again, license it, apply

the user and application licenses, and then install Atrium CMDB and the
ITSM suite.

ARERR 1904 Invalid TLV Record

2009-12-11 Thread Elry
Hi Folks...

Got the following error when trying to run a Crystal Report using the
Open Window active link action:

An error occurred while generating the Crystal report: 0x80043ae3 -
Invalid TLV record. (ARERR 1904)

We discovered that all our Crystal Reports that were embedded in the
Form Report had a File Size of OKB.

To solve this you can do one of the following:

1) Re-attach the reports.
2) Delete the records and re-import from a backup *ARX.

Just thought I would share this - searched everywhere and could not
find any information on this specific Crystal Report error message.

Cheers!

Citrix GTA and Remedy

2009-12-11 Thread Brittain, Mark
HI All,

Has anyone integrated Citrix GoToAssist version 9 with Remedy? If so can you
tell me how to do it?

Currently I am using GTA version 7. When the chat session is started a record
is created in Remedy 6.3 patch 20. Citrix is pushing for us to update to their
version 9. The catch is they no longer support the integration with Remedy and
the information they have provided has not been very helpful.

Thanks

Silly question, but are you manually setting the recon ID? Or do you have the

Do you know how to generate a AR System startup log by adding the -s switch

If so please do that, and send the startup logs that get written to the

Something tells me this is a similar problem I faced on Linux a few months

Make sure that the field ID being used is for a Attachment Field and
not an Attachment Pool field. (The difference is like a Table Column's
field ID vs the Table Field's field ID.)

In the Admin Tool, looking at the field Properties dialog the title of
that window (at least in 6.3) should say Field Properties -
Attachment and NOT Field Properties - Attachment Pool.

You can also tell by the content of the Display tab. The Pool has
a large, grayed out Text widget on the right and the Attachment
field shows 'Data Type' = Attachment.

Re: Current Host ID of ARS Server always changing

2009-12-11 Thread Rick Cook
Hmmm...I just tried that with both my Ethernet and Wireless card MAC

 - eg;

 ITSM suite.

This causes the license to become invalid, thus, we always have to reapply

I am manually relating them via the CMDB console. The ReconciliationIdentity is

I am not using the SANDBOX, I'm doing them straight into BMC.ASSET.

Re: CMDB mapping question: dependency vs. component

2009-12-11 Thread Lyle Taylor
OK. So is this what you're doing?

1. Search for CI from CMDB Console via Browse Instances

2. Click the View button to view the CI you want to add a relationship to

3. Click View Relationships on the CI record

4. Choose a Namespace and Relationship Class and then click Create

5. On the Relationship record, click the Select Destination button

6. Find another CI and then click OK

If I do that, it seems to copy the destination's Recon ID into the Recon ID
field for the relationship. That would account for the error that you're
getting, since reconciliation IDs need to all be unique (unless they're zero).
I'm not sure why it wants to be copying the destination's recon ID into the
relationship's recon ID. If it really wants to have one, it should simply be
generating a new one. It's possible this is a bug in the workflow; you might
consider taking it up with BMC.

Otherwise, if you're doing everything in BMC.ASSET like this, there probably
isn't really a need to have Reconciliation IDs on everything, since you're not
trying to reconcile anything in, and even if you were, you usually
auto-identify BMC.ASSET anyway which will add a recon ID wherever one is
missing. So, I'm thinking that you probably can simply replace the recon ID
that it's copying into the Recon ID field of the relationship with a zero (0).
I tried that and didn't get an error.

Perhaps others have other thoughts on this?

Re: Current Host ID of ARS Server always changing

2009-12-11 Thread Joe D'Souza
This must be a new Windows 2008 bug or design.. It works well with Windows
2003 or Linux or other environments I have had the opportunity to license AR
System 7.5 on. Have you guys tried contacting MS and check with them as to
why the value of the hostid windows variable changes and how to prevent
that? If it is by design for whatever reasons to change it, there must be a
way they have designed to prevent the change?

Else it would mess up other things too for e.g. the security features on
wireless routers to allow known MAC addresses and disallow unknown MAC
Addresses.

If MS didn't think of things like that before designing that feature I would
be surprised - but then again its MS.. :-)

- eg;

ITSM suite.

You're correct, that is exactly how I'm doing it. Except for one thing which
doesn't have to do with the error message: for step 5, I click on Select
Source and find the CI I want to relate, then for Destination I use the CI that
I was previously looking at (which at the beginning of this step was in the

Make sure that the field ID being used is for a Attachment Field and
not an Attachment Pool field. (The difference is like a Table Column's

In the Admin Tool, looking at the field Properties dialog the title of

You can also tell by the content of the Display tab. The Pool has

The question was if it was possible to send a Remedy notification email to the

The best that I came up with was: configure a dummy user and add it to the
particular support group. This user's email address would be the group mailbox
address (used by the blackberry). Set this user 'assignment availability' to
No but leave notifications Availability to Yes (on the People form).

ARYSTEM 7.1 Patch 7

Looking into ways of cutting down group emails, maybe going out as a DL instead
of one person at a time in that group. We are sending over 4 emails a day
and a lot of this is group notification. This all goes through the
notification tool.

This is not ideal to send 100 emails out to all group members. Instead I want
to send one.

Anyone done this?

Thanks

License Usage Question

2009-12-11 Thread Jase Brandon
Hello All,
It's that time of year and we are doing support renewal/license purchases,
etc. BMC asked me to generate a 'License Usage Report' from a button on the
Server Admin Console.
Early this year, we were having problems with Fixed/Floating mixture, so we
set our AR Fixed to a higher number than we had purchased so users could log
in, etc.
We soon bought RRR License and our problem was solved. I had plenty of
licenses, just not distributed correctly based on usage.

However - when I Generate this license usage report- I notice that in the
'Count' column, it appears to be reporting the high water mark of usage for
the date range. So I had 125 purchased AR User fixed licenses, but I bumped
that up to 200 and we made a lot of people fixed until we straightened out
the mix.
Then we moved the number back to 125. Here is my dilemma - the 'Count'
column mentioned above shows 158 licenses used during the period in
question.
So the $100K question (pun intended) is Is BMC going to charge me for the
33 AR System User Fixed licenses I used temporarily? Somebody please tell
me NO.. :-)

Thanks,

Jase

They won't charge you if you have a good Sales Rep that will work it
out. The fact that you trued-up will most likely convince them that you
should not be charged.

Re: License Usage Question

2009-12-11 Thread Shellman, David
You pose a very good question. I don't have an answer. Just a comment.

If I read correctly by redistributing the fixed/floating licenses among your
users, you were able to go back to the original fixed/floating number.

This has always been my fear with the new licensing model. It's too easy to add
fixed/floating licenses to get past a peak that may only require reallocation
of the licenses that you have. A logical reaction.

Hopefully your sales rep will accept the explanation.

Re: Current Host ID of ARS Server always changing

2009-12-11 Thread strauss
Here is what I got as an explanation from Support when I had this problem the
week before WWRUG:

ARServer sends an SNMP call to get the host id from the operating system. It
will be looking for all the host ids available and as soon as it will be
finding any of the valid host id on which the licenses are issued, it will
recognize that license. Hence, the license keys needs to be generated with any
of the host ids displaying with the ipconfig /all command.

But with Windows 2008 Enterprise, it generates some additional host ids which
may not have any resemblance to the actual host ids/MAC Address of the NICs
available on the system. Even when you restart the AR Services, the system
might show a different host id on the Add Remove Licenses form other than
968A20524153. This is a known behavior with Windows 2008.

I got the license regenerated for the host id displayed in the [ command :
ipconfig /all ] results for the specific NIC port that I was using (Dell 710's
have four), and it has remained a valid license ever since through multiple
restarts of the Windows server and/or AR Server service. It is definitely a
new feature on Windows 2008 R2 - probably 2008 as well, but we never put an
AR Server on 2008 to see it.

This must be a new Windows 2008 bug or design.. It works well with Windows 2003
or Linux or other environments I have had the opportunity to license AR System
7.5 on. Have you guys tried contacting MS and check with them as to why the
value of the hostid windows variable changes and how to prevent that? If it is
by design for whatever reasons to change it, there must be a way they have
designed to prevent the change?

Else it would mess up other things too for e.g. the security features on
wireless routers to allow known MAC addresses and disallow unknown MAC
Addresses.

If MS didn't think of things like that before designing that feature I would be
surprised - but then again its MS.. :-)

Therefore, use ipconfig /all from a command line to get the MAC address

and use this value (removing the - symbols) as the Host ID for licensing

If it works it should work from either Run Process or the set field
$PROCESS$..

Set field actions are better though as they return a success or failure code
to the field and you can do what you want with that result in terms of error
handling..

I think what might be interesting to check besides the filter log, is what
gets returned as that value..

The filter is getting executed but, the attachment is not being

I'm curious to see if the problem is both ways. Save the file into the

Add a filter the runs PERFORM-ACTION-SAVE-ATTACHMENT 536880912
/home/remedy/fit_ftp/other.txt

Also, have you tried running from the Run Process instead of $PROCESS$ ?

Do you have a Db-Max-Attach-Size set in the ar.conf?

I'd go along with Tommy and LJ on this one too.

Have been in situations where I had worked through similar situations and
got the benefit of doubt. Its obvious you are not using those 33 extra
licenses anymore after purchasing that tool. So talk to your reps, and
judging by the fact that you needed 33 licenses to offset the temporary
problem, I can safely assume you are already giving BMC a good chunk of $'s
as business, so there is a good chance they will stand by you. You seem to
be a good mid size customer which makes for a huge chunk of their revenue
and they would not want to loose goodwill..
