Re: Problems creating LDAP Vendor forms

2010-04-15 Thread Sergio Tomillero
Joe,

I am using ARServer 7.5 patch 4, the latest BMC AR Server version.

If I activate plugin log, I can see the value 001 is recognized
as Form entry. If I indicate it manually in the Request Id field, the LDAP
: Bad search filter (LDAPERR 87) (ARERR 3377) message appears.

Re: Problems creating LDAP Vendor forms

2010-04-15 Thread Sergio Tomillero
Hi

The problem has been resolved. It was the Key field when creating a Vendor
form, that was without being mapped for any field. I have selected one that
has a unique value for each record and mapped it to the 'Key field'. Now I
can access from Remedy user to vendor forms and doing searches through their
records without any problem.

Thanks regards

2010-04-15 Thread Danny Kellett
Hi,

Yes you will. You need to build two components. One for the midtier the
other for the AR Server.

When a midtier is protected by siteminder, it handles the authentication
process and if successful, it will produce certain header information that
you can interpret as a correct login. The Siteminder API docs are quite
easy to understand and BMC produce a whitepaper that explains the SSO
interface quite well.

Kind regards

Re: Tool suggestion

Hi,

There are some moving components here. You will, as Roger Justice
mention, need to upgrade to 7.1/7.5 to get a supported version of the
CMDB. You might also consider looking at upgrading from CSS 5.6 to
Column's CCRM 7.5. As you know, BMC has stopped development on CSS so no
new features as you've described will be incorporated into the
application

log on to customer site via SHS and try to solve problem with asset that
we own. This asset can be a small piece of puzzle which customer has.
Usually the customer will provide us the layout of all the assets and
interdependencies. I was wondering is there any tool which can
integrated
with remedy system which will give the topology diagram of the customer
site also which can be saved in remedy system let me know.

Approval Mappings when category is different than something

2010-04-15 Thread Rudolf Schwarzkopf
Hello list,

Is there any simple way to make a person an approver if the category of a
change, for instance, is different from something?

In the Approval Mappings of Change Management I need one person (person A)
to be the approver when a change has a operational category different from
something.
I want another person (person B) to be the approver when all the other
criterias are met, but only if a specific operational category is used.

So person B approves when category = ABC, person A approvers when category
different from ABC.

Is there a simple way to do this? Or do I need to create mappings for all
the other operational categories to person A?

I don't know if I was clear explaining the issue. Thank you for any help!

You should be able to do it by creating one mapping for all categories and
another for just the single category. Set the Level of the single category
at a lower value than that of the global one. If it hits, it will go there.

Ok, so there is no way to say: This mapping should be triggered when

I need to create one mapping for each of the other categories?

I understand that having 2 mappings, one for every category and one for that

I would still have the two approval requests in sequence, or am I missing

No, you create two. One for the rule (no categories selected), and one for
the exception (the single category). It's possible that both approval
entities will get the approval notification for the exception one, but if
that happens, I can't think of a software process to get around that - a
business process will have to suffice.

The other issue is when you view the status history, notice the CRQ number...
chances are it will not match the Change ID+ field of the change ticket. I

Besides the Status History disappearing, this is also annoying. ..my 2

In the Remedy user tool if you display the status history for an incident and
then close the dialog you must refresh the incident in order to redisplay the
status history. I have been seeing this for long time and was wondering if
there is a work around. I expected a patch would've taken care of it but I
think this has been going on since 7.0 and 7.1p9 still has the issue.

Thoughts?

Re: Approval Mappings when category is different than something

2010-04-15 Thread Martinez, Marcelo A
In my experience, if you have a change with criteria that meets both approval
mappings, both mappings will fire and thus attach both entities to approve.
Although having one approval mapping for each category (criteria) may seem like
a lot of work, you can use Remedy Import to upload your mappings from an XLS
and save time.

No, you create two. One for the rule (no categories selected), and one for the
exception (the single category). It's possible that both approval entities
will get the approval notification for the exception one, but if that happens,
I can't think of a software process to get around that - a business process
will have to suffice.

I understand that having 2 mappings, one for every category and one for that
specific one, with different levels, both will be triggered when I use the
single category (because it falls on the every category mapping).
I would still have the two approval requests in sequence, or am I missing
something?

You should be able to do it by creating one mapping for all categories and
another for just the single category. Set the Level of the single category at
a lower value than that of the global one. If it hits, it will go there.

Hello list,

Is there any simple way to make a person an approver if the category of a
change, for instance, is different from something?

In the Approval Mappings of Change Management I need one person (person A) to
be the approver when a change has a operational category different from
something.
I want another person (person B) to be the approver when all the other
criterias are met, but only if a specific operational category is used.

So person B approves when category = ABC, person A approvers when category
different from ABC.

Is there a simple way to do this? Or do I need to create mappings for all the
other operational categories to person A?

I don't know if I was clear explaining the issue. Thank you for any help!

Thanks,

Rudolf

Re: KB tool

2010-04-15 Thread Lyle Taylor
I think it depends a bit on what you're environment is and what you're looking
for. RKM is designed around Remedy, so you do get some nice integration
features like being able to specify resolution category information, etc., for
when you use a KB article to solve an Incident and such.

That said, I would also look at the number of people using the system, how you
intend the KB to be used (self support, as an aid to the help desk, etc.), how
many articles you expect to have in the KB, etc. In my experience, RKM is not
an enterprise class application, but it more suited to smaller shops. It lacks
good management capabilities for a large number of users, Remedy support
groups, and articles. For a smaller shop (say, less than 100 support groups,
or only a few hundred users, a few hundred or a few thousand articles, etc.),
RKM may be fine. For a larger organization, in my experience, the tool has not
been stable enough or manageable enough. In our case, it has been the most
problematic of any of the BMC applications I've worked with.

So, for a small to medium organization, RKM may work fine. For a larger
organization, or where you intend to supply a knowledge base to a large set of
external clients, there are a number of other possible solutions that may work
better for you depending on your needs, and most of the major KB vendors will
claim that they can integrate with Remedy in one way or another.

I recommend you look to Knowledge Centered Support (KCS) in creating a solid KM

Replaciing a character with Null is an oxymoron in MS-SQL. You would
 replace
a character with a zero-length string. Null and are not the same.

If you are in an Oracle database, use the function TRANSLATE to replace all
Alpha characters with either NULL or space or whatever else you wish to..
This will leave the string with only special characters and numerical
 characters..

I am not sure if TRANSLATE works on MS-SQL but you could give it a shot if
 MS-SQL is your underlying database.

You see a view field can run javascript and send events back to the parent,
whether web or user.
in this case you use the javascript REGEXP.

Depending on how much available memory there is to use on your client
you can adjust these min startup and max memory settings..

I am using these settings..
-vmargs
-Xms512m
-Xmx1024m

You could go higher without crashing your JVM on startup if you have
lots of available free memory..

I highly doubt there is a limit like that.. Check your web server log files

I'm inclined to think you might have encountered a out of memory error on
the web server that may have resulted in that. In which case adjusting your
heap size might be in order..

Re: Benefit of Prefetch Remedy midtier 7.1

2010-04-15 Thread cpgold
You are right, no way that the midTier stores prefetch items on the client
computer.
Unless you acknowledged security bypass for your browser
Prefetch runs as an assumed user login. So if you setup Prefetch as Joe
User, all the views, code, and fields that Joe User sees will load as
prefetched. If Jane logs in and she has the same permissions as Joe, then
boom she gets the form without extra processing and the form opens fast for
her. OH but here comes FRED; he has more permissions, he is a supervisor,
20% more fields and workflow are available to him, so guess what, when he
logs in, midTier has to fetch all the field defs and workflow for FRED, so
he might see a slightly slower form load the First time only, regardles of
prefetch.
IF you wanted FRED's form to open fast you need to define another prefetch
for a user with FREDS permission set.

So instead of loading HPD:Help Desk when a user first hits it, it will
 load by itself when restarted.
Benefit is that the first user logging in won't get that 1-2 mins

Now sales people and certain consultants say that prefetch does more

It actually loads the forms into the clients computer and therefore
speeds up the whole midtier itself.
So they say that prefetch helps overall everyday midtier use such as
the 50th person using HPD:Help Desk will notice better speeds with
 prefetch than without.
They say it loads the forms to the clients computers preemptively and
 therefore improves performance.
To me that doesn't make sense, how can the server know where to load
the files. Does it work by loading all the web forms when the person
 logs in?

I really see no benefit to using prefetch if our server hardly restarts

2010-04-15 Thread Jason Miller
Don't forget that as of MT 7.5 patch 4 there is a option to pre-load the
cache with everything when MT starts. Using this with persistent cache and
the new sync cache features and this should be a very powerful combination.
I do have some questions as to how this works with how MT caches based on a
user's groups. Maybe it just caches everything?

My only concern is pre-loading everything on a 32-bit process may eat up a
lot of resources. When we tried it we started getting heap errors after a
while. However this MT server is not too terribly happy in general anyways
and we still run out of memory with pre-load off. It will be great when the
day of 64-bit MT arrives :)

2010-04-15 Thread Joe D'Souza
Raj,

The same can be done using the sql count as suggested earlier..

select count(*) from HPD_Worklog where comment = 'particular value'

If that particular value is embedded in the text in the comment field, then
you might want to use a like search

select count(*) from HPD_Worklog where comment like '%particular value%'

Run this in a Set field using an SQL and return the $1$ to that field
whenever you want lets say window open, using a active link, and set the
count to your integer field.

Re: Reopened date does not get populated

2010-04-15 Thread Murtuza B
I had the same issue, Raised a ticket with BMC.
There reply was :

The Re-Opened date is only set when the Incident has been Closed and
the User presses the Re-Open Incident link from the Nav. bar on the left
of the Incident form. Moving an Incident from a Resolved state to an
active state such as Assigned is not re-opening an Incident.

Cheers,
Murtuza.

Subject: Reopened date does not get populated

**
Hi Listers,

I have recently noticed on ITSM 7.5 (Patch 2) that when i change the
status of an Incident from Resolved to Assigned (re-open ), the
Re-opened Date does not get populated in the Incident.

So, when does this Re-opened date get populated?

Thanks in advance!
