Re: Email Attachment not Displayed in 2007 MS Outlook Client
Christianne, What version of Exchange do you have in your organization? We had a similar issue with attachments which boiled down to the fact that Exchange 2003 sends some attachments as content type Multipart / Relative. This causes issues with Exchange 2010 and Outlook 2007 / 2010 where the attachments are not seen. Outlook Web Access displays the attachments fine though. The resolution is to run a command (set-OrganizationConfig -ShowInlineAttachments:$true) on the exchange 2003 server. Re: arsystem.ehcache.maxElementsInMemory - what whould it be set to for full ITSM midtier - box has 12GB memory
This is an update from BMC Support: --- Here's the resolution to the escalation on this issue: Please ignore the tag arsystem.ehcache.maxElementsInMemory. This tag is ignored when arsystem.ehcache.referenceMaxElementsInMemory is used in conjunction with the factors. This tag, arsystem.ehcache.maxElementsInMemory is removed in 7.6.04SP3 [though installer won't remove it on upgrade because of the confusions). For your case, if system usage is the same (no increase load in users, reports, etc) and you have extra memory you want to use for ehcache, for now, it's safe to increase arsystem.ehcache.referenceMaxElementsInMemory by 1250 per 700MB. It's your job to guarantee that the OS does not swap when you increase memory allocation to JVM as swapping will degrade ANY web app's performance. (This is the typo that is being corrected on our documentation right now). --- I have replied to request whether we should remove the reference to arsystem.ehcache.maxElementsInMemory. You'll run into an address space limit if you are on a 32 bit JVM regardless of the amount of RAM in the box (a little under 3GB on windows usually) so you probably aren't going to fit the full ITSM suite in memory unless you are running on a 64bit JVM. I read somewhere (in the BSM tuning guide I think) that as a rule of thumb for every 750MB of additional heap size configured over and above the recommended 1 GB you can increase this value by 1250, so that's probably a good starting point. ___ UNSUBSCRIBE or access ARSlist Archives at www.arslist.org attend wwrug12 www.wwrug12.com ARSList: Where the Answers Are The information transmitted is intended only for the person or entity to which it is addressed and may contain confidential and/or privileged material. Re: WARNING: 7.6.X DDM AND ITSM
That's the reason why you need to use RRR|Chive, which is THE tool for data migration. DDM is not production ready yet, it's a nice concept but very limited. With all the money and resources that BMC spent on DDM,they could have just paid Misi from RRR to make RRR|Chive prettier, i.e. essentially having a GUI and colorful reports so management **thinks** it's enterprise ready. You know how it is, management needs to see pretty power point slides to think (when they think) that a tool is enterprise ready. RRR|Chive does not have that prettiness, thanks God, but get's the work done. It's probably because Misi focused on the design of the tool that it works, instead of focusing on sugar-coated prettiness and fluff, which takes the focus away in developing something that really works. Below is a dynamic URL you can use as a workaround to lookup the article which won't change when the article is versioned but it's not the most efficient construct and it does display a results list at the top of the screen which is not optimal... http://midtierserver/arsys/forms/appserver/RKM%3aKnowledgeArticleManager/Display+View/?qual=%27Article%20ID%27%3D%22Articlehttp://%3cmidtierserver%3e/arsys/forms/%3cappserver%3e/RKM%3aKnowledgeArticleManager/Display+View/?qual=%27Article%20ID%27%3D%22%3cArticle ID%22+AND+%27Status*%27%3C+900 Use this inserting your KBA number into the link. What makes me laugh is that this is BMC's official product to primarily migrate their ITSM customers from previous versions to the latest and greatest. ITSM workflow will often use DELETE operations on foundation data such as people permission, support group and functional role removals, product alias changes, etc... I also found/discovered something else. We have Kinetic's Survey, which has it's own Outbound Mailbox (not associated to any inbound) Well that was disabled after I re-added the Inbound mailbox, everything was working fine (except no surveys going out). As soon as I turned that Survey Outbound mailbox config back on, it stopped processing the inbound again. I turned it off, restarted the email engine, and it processed the stuck ones fine. Re: BMC Numara Footprints to BMC Remedy ITSM License Conversion
I'm not familiar with those other products. What we've done to minimize license usage and purchases is to try to optimize who we provide a fixed vs. floating license. For heads down console support users and integration service accounts (creating and updating) e.g. service desk associates - provide a Fixed license For all other support users (creating and updating) provide a Floating license. 1 floating license for every 3 to 5 users - you could start with 1 to 5 and increase 1 to 3 if you see yourself reaching or approaching the max under license review. In addition we have allocated any spare fixed license to other heavy hitters which we see creating/ updating a lot of incidents, problems, changes, etc... I get those counts from a sql query. That way we can make optimum use of our floating licenses. You can also refine this further if you know users shift hours and provide more fixed licenses to users during peak hours of the day. E.g. our peak usage is around 9-11am - so I look for heavy users logged on during that time. e.g. 600 support users, 100 service desk associates. 100 Fixed licenses, 100 floating licenses (at 1 to 5) Regards, Andrew Goodall Software Engineer 2 | Development Services | jcpenney . www.jcp.com http://www.jcp.com/ From: Action Request System discussion list(ARSList) [mailto:arslist@ARSLIST.ORG] On Behalf Of Pierson, Shawn Sent: Thursday, May 03, 2012 3:06 PM To: arslist@ARSLIST.ORG Subject: BMC Numara Footprints to BMC Remedy ITSM License Conversion ** We're currently in the process of figuring out how many Remedy licenses we need to purchase in order to bring our newly merged organization up on Remedy. But it didn't have any effect.
Andrew, Thanks. Footprints is an ITSM suite for smaller companies that BMC just purchased this year, sort of along the lines of RemedyForce I suppose. Our hope was that BMC would have a way of migrating from Footprints to Remedy without losing the investment our company made with both products. Re: Relationships not showing for custom fields in overlaid forms
I see them as well (custom fields on overlaid forms - Incident 7.6.04.03) but then all of my upgrade re-development and subsequent customization was done with Record Object Relationships turned on. I wonder if the bug only appears when you make the changes and THEN turn recording on - implying that a new scan for relationships might miss them where active recording does not. Re: BMC Numara Footprints to BMC Remedy ITSM License Conversion
Hopefully it is just a case of your sales contact not knowing what he or she is doing. We may be migrating from ITSM to one of the other two BMC products (requirement is to move to a hosted solution rather than on-premise), and a lack of flexibility on transferring licenses is the quickest way I know to guarantee that we move to a non-BMC product line.
