Re: The New BMC Chat (what version of ARS and ITSM will it work on)

2012-12-10 Thread Pierson, Shawn
If it was the same briefing that I attended, I believe the line may have been
blurred a bit between SRM, the AI agent, and the rest of the chat
functionality. I recall the BMC folks saying that SRM 8.0 was compatible with
ARS and ITSM 7.6.4 and that we could upgrade SRM on its own now. The chat
functionality did seem kind of cool, especially since they said it could be
integrated with Office Communicator.

My suggestion is to go to your sales person if support is not helpful. They
should be able to easily get someone to get that information to you since it is
a feature that BMC seems to be proud of.

Thanks,

Subject: The New BMC Chat (what version of ARS and ITSM will it work on)

All,

I hope you're having a great weekend.

Now for my strange issue.

My management team came back from Houston and was demoed the new BMC Chat, that
was released with ITSM 8.0.

During the meeting someone informed one of the managers that BMC Chat could be
used with ITSM and ARS 7.6.4 (which we just upgraded to) and I was tasked to
get more info.

When I asked BMC support they say that is not true. Yet they cannot find any
documentation that says that (i.e. no compatibility list) and in fact could not
find any of the documentation on BMC Chat (I found it on my own, but
compatibility was not part of what I found).

So I am I at a loss.

On one hand I have a manager that says he was told (by someone at this
executive meeting in Houston that it will work with our current version and on
the other BMC support that cannot even send me a compatibility doc (or even
find anyone that can answer my question).

Any ideas?

Howard

Re: RRR|DefDiff new free tool published

2012-12-10 Thread Rod Harris
Hi Brian,

I can say that it takes about 30 minutes to export a full ITSM 8 suite
system to a single def file. You need to do this to both systems and then
run the compare. The RRR|Exportdef program is very easy to use and gives
you quite detailed output on progress as it goes. Even the 32bit windows
version can output the full suite.

Now as far as RRR|Exportdiff goes I think I'm going to need a 64bit version
to be able to compare such a large system in one go.

 Hi,

I have just added a new tool to the RRR|Commands section that can compare
complete systems and create delta def-files and diff-lists for you.

 Sample command: rrrDefDiff.exe source.def target.def

The above command will produce a diff-list and and these set of def-files:
 - source-import-diffobj.def
 - source-import-newobj.def
 - target-backup-delete.def
 - target-backup-diffobj.def

Together with the RRR|ExportDef command, you have a fast way of comparing
two complete ITSM systems. They can be on different AR versions. Even
different databases and encodings will give you relevant output.

 RRR|DefDiff: https://www.rrr.se/cgi/tools/main#rrrDefDiff
 RRR|ExportDef: https://www.rrr.se/cgi/tools/main#rrrExportDef

 Enjoy!

Re: The New BMC Chat (what version of ARS and ITSM will it work on)

2012-12-10 Thread Easter, David
The naming is a little confusing. Just think of it this way:

BMC Chat - upper-case Chat. This is the product that was obtained from the
my-eService acquisition and in the doc link that Prof. Strauss forwarded. It
is intended primarily to provide a Virtual Chat agent for end users as well as
communication with end users.

http://www.myeservice.com/wp/products/

chat - lower-case chat. This is functionality provided by AR System that
utilizes integration with an XMPP chat server (like OpenFire). It is used
primarily for communication between back-end technicians - not with end users.

https://docs.bmc.com/docs/display/public/ars8000/Configuring+chat

The chat (lower case) functionality was first introduced in AR System 8.0.00 /
ITSM 8.0.00 - so it's not available in previous versions of AR System / ITSM.

NOT merging a new record into BMC.Asset

2012-12-10 Thread Joe
Hi all,

Our scenario:

Bringing in an external spreadsheet of 5 fields. Once brought into the staged
dataset via AIE the records are normalized and reconciled into the BMC.Asset
Dataset. We are utilizing Name to identify on in ComputerSystem.

Issue:Because this spreadsheet is completely human entered and not an
export from any system there is a chance of human error. We would like to
ensure that if a Name is incorrectly input into the spreadsheet it is not
reconciled into the CMDB.

Question: How to I exclude a record from reconciliation into BMC.ASSET if it
DOES NOT currently exist (from the staged dataset).

Thank you, have a great day.

Re: Basics of Collision Detection Tool config

2012-12-10 Thread Rick Cook
At a basic level, Collision detection is actually enabled by associating
your affected CIs with your Change Requests. Collision detection compares
Change Requests with common CIs to see if there are multiple CRs changing
the same CI at the same time. Look at the documentation about the
Association types to see which fits what you want to do.

If you want to go deeper and include it as part of your approval process,
here are three basic things you can do:

1) Set up your CIs to have unavailability segments, so that outage periods
requested can be vetted by the approvers. This isn't technically required
to allow collisions to be detected, but it makes it easier to determine
which should be allowed as being part of a pre-defined outage period for
that CI, and to also see dependencies of other affected CIs.
2) Define groups as owners of the CIs. I would not define this down to
individual users, because of the overhead of maintaining the CI/people
relationships. Instead, use groups, and move people in and out as
necessary. This helps define responsible owners of a CI, and can help you
further define business level approvers.
3) Using the data defined in step 2, set up the Approval Mappings on one
of your approval gates (probably a Business level one) to be CI based.
This can take some work, depending on whether you go by CI class or (not
recommended) CI-level Approvals.

Rose,

We are an OnDemand customer as well. There is no configuration that I can
find. Collisions are based on the inclusion of CIs related to the change
request. Workflow within the module checks for CI collisions according to
Scheduled Start and End Dates and changes the color of the link to the
Collision Detection form under Advanced Functions.

Click that link and the system displays the identified collisions and allows
you to select it's disposition.

AR System Searches Preference Error

2012-12-10 Thread Pierson, Shawn
Good afternoon folks,

I'm running into a weird issue on ITSM and ARS 7.6.4 that I wanted to run past
you all. Basically, the user was experiencing an issue where they try to get
to the Incident form, and the only thing they get is a grey screen on the Mid
Tier. The system isn't trying to load anything, the rest of the I.T. Home Page
basically works, so the user can navigate elsewhere, they just can't open the
Incident form in any fashion.

When I look at the logs on the Mid Tier, I saw this error:

Dec 10, 2012 4:17:48 PM - WARNING (com.remedy.log.SESSION) : (Thread 46)
com.remedy.arsys.goat.aspects.IARUserSearchesServiceCacheAspect
ajc$around$com_remedy_arsys_goat_aspects_IARUserSearchesServiceCacheAspect$1$181ba497
Could not load searches from the previously loaded preference server
REMEDYSERVERNAME for user USERHAVINGTHEISSUEon form HPD:Help Desk

That made me curious, as I haven't really looked into how the stored searches
work so I found and opened up the AR System Searches Preference form. There
were a couple of records there, which I deleted. After deleting them, the user
could open the Incident screen with no problems. When comparing the records
with their username to records of searches performed by people who aren't
having problems, I couldn't really detect a difference other than the case of
the login name, which shouldn't matter on SQL Server.

Has anyone else seen this issue? If so, what was the cause, and how did you
permanently fix it?

Thanks,

Shawn Pierson

Hi,

the case does matter for Login ID and preference form records.

This usually manifests on SRM more than other consoles. Removing the
preference records and allowing the system to create with the correct case
is the normal fix.

just can't open the Incident form in any fashion.

When I look at the logs on the Mid Tier, I saw this error:

Dec 10, 2012 4:17:48 PM - WARNING (com.remedy.log.SESSION) : (Thread 46)
com.remedy.arsys.goat.aspects.IARUserSearchesServiceCacheAspect

$181ba497 Could not load searches from the previously loaded preference
server REMEDYSERVERNAME for user USERHAVINGTHEISSUEon form HPD:Help Desk

That made me curious, as I haven't really looked into how the stored
searches work so I found and opened up the AR System Searches Preference
form. There were a couple of records there, which I deleted. After
deleting them, the user could open the Incident screen with no problems.
When comparing the records with their username to records of searches
performed by people who aren't having problems, I couldn't really detect a
difference other than the case of the login name, which shouldn't matter on
SQL Server.

Has anyone else seen this issue? If so, what was the cause, and how did you
permanently fix it?

Thanks,

Re: AR System Searches Preference Error

2012-12-10 Thread Tomasiewicz, Mike (Information Technology)
We've seen some interesting issues regarding the AR System User Preference
form when the case of the username does not match. In all cases, once I delete
that record, the preference form is recreated in upper case and the users
account functions normally.

8961 error with Impact and Reported Source

2012-12-10 Thread Saraswat, Praveen
Hi Guys,

I have created a custom webservice on HPD:IncidentInterface_Create form which
is being consumed by other application.

When I am running the wsdl file in SOAP UI I am getting a proper response and
Incident is getting created.

But when the other party is trying from their application it throws 8961 error.
Earlier it was throwing error for Impact now its coming for reported source.

I have checked the sequence, I have made the fields nillable for which other
application is not passing any value. But with no success

We are stuck very badly here.

Any suggestions?

Praveen Kumar Saraswat

Re: 8961 error with Impact and Reported Source

2012-12-10 Thread itsm.support
Hi,

This is what I found while navigating for below issue:

The real problem seems to be the order of the elements in the input XML
call. It seems that Remedy, or perhaps whatever mechanism they used to
implement the web services, isn't happy if the input elements aren't in the
same order as defined in the web service. It's ok if there are optional or
defaulted elements left out of the call, but those that are present must be
in the order as defined in the web service.

I recently had an integration team with this exact scenario. The field
reported as missing was passed, but still the error was thrown. I built a
SoauUI call, and the operation worked fine. Turns out this is because I used
the SoauUI function that automatically builds the input call from the web
service definition, so all of the elements are in the same order.

I then took the input xml reported by the integration team, and inserted it
in place of the automatically generated xml in the SoauUI, and I got the
same error reported by the integration team.

I manually rearranged the elements to match the operation definition, and
trying again, it was successful.

Integration teams will not be happy that they have to make sure the elements
are in the right order, and you'll need to avoid rearranging the element
unless everyone is on board with the change. However, if you do make use the
elements in the right order, this error will not occur.

HTH
