ARS 7.6.04 SP3 from ARS 7.1 - failing to upgrade forms

2012-09-12 Thread jaimie
Hello,

We are trying to upgrade from 7.1 to 7.6.04 SP3. We run the installer
and keep getting a failed install and when I look at the logs were are
getting this error:

(Sep 12 2012 09:24:03.459 AM

(Sep 12 2012 09:24:03.550 AM

The reason we get the error is because while the group_cache form is
being upgraded, the group_x view on that table is not. The
Real_Overlay_Group is not being added to the group_x during the
install. We have tried everything we can find or think of and still
cannot get around this error. We are running AIX 6.1, Oracle 10g, and
Oracle Client 11g.

The worst part is that even though the installer is supposed to
rollback its changes when it fails, its not doing that. So our server
is dead in the water. We are not getting any ideas from the
arerror.log either. There was one error in the arerror.log that said
it couldn't find a web library file, but that is outside of this
issue.

Does anyone have any suggestions. BMC recommended deleting the group
form, except since we can't get the server to come up, we would have
to do it from the database and I'm not really confident that would
work. I was thinking about adding the column manually and then
running the install, but I'm not sure what information should be in
that field and if it will even update the field with the right values.

I am open to any suggestions at this point.

Thank you

Apache 6.0 with Remedy Knowledge Management Application

2012-07-10 Thread jaimie
Hi Everyone -

Has anyone ever upgraded apache 5.5 to apache 6.0 on their Remedy
Management server. I have a windows server that only runs the Remedy
Knowledge Management application. Due to a security risk, we need to
upgrade apache. I cannot find any documentation on if I have to
backup any files or change any exiting files on RKM before upgrading.
I can find plenty on upgrading apache for mid-tier, but nothing on
RKM. I was thinking of just making a backup of the install directory
for RKM and then running the apache installer.

Any helpful hints or suggestions?

ARVALIDATE Cache and Performance Issues

2009-11-03 Thread jaimie
We upgraded from 6.3 to 7.1 recently without changing any workflow or
functions. Since that time, our server keeps hanging and sometimes
crashing. We realized that we didn't have enough CPUs for 7.1 last
week and so we added additional CPUs and oddly enough it just made our
situation worse. We have contacted BMC but they are not responding
very quickly and we have done everything that they have come back
with. Looking at our API logs, we noticed that ARValidateCache is
showing up quite frequently. Can anyone please explain to me what
that means or what it applies to. I read in the manuals about it,
but I would like to know more about the purpose and why it would keep
showing up everytime we start having a server freeze.

Thank you

Server Crash - Event requires attention Permission Denied

2009-10-27 Thread jaimie
Hi Everyone,

We added more memory to our server this past weekend. Since then the
server keeps crashing at odd moments. What we found in the
arerror.log was this:

Stacks:
Mon Oct 26 20:30:35 2009 : Action Request System(R) Server Version
7.1.00 Patch 007 200904160530
(c) Copyright 1991-2007 BMC Software, Inc.
Mon Oct 26 20:30:53 2009 Dispatch : Cannot establish a network
connection to the AR System server ( : RPC: Miscellaneous tli
error
- event requires attentionPermission denied) ARERR - 90

I know that the Misc. tli error can refer to a firewall issue, but the
Permission denied is what we can't figure out. Has anyone seen this
error before? I tried the BMC KB and that did not help at all.

We are on AIX, Remedy v71., and Oracle 10g R3. Any help would be
appreciated.

I turned off logging and then deleted the arerror.log. I then

during starting/stopping the server.

Yes, I agree with Fredrick, turn off your workflow logging (filter, api,
etc) and then restart...I would not expect that error if you don't have
 logging turned on at startup/shutdown...

Is it common for it to tell me that it cannot find a file but then
when I do ls -l on the file it appears. I'm going to change the

Thank you for all the responses.

Help with Worklog and Getting entries to work in a view

2008-12-15 Thread jaimie
I have Form A and Form B.When you click on a button on Form A, it
brings you to Form B. The forms are connected by 2 fields that have
the same entry numbers.

On Form B there is a button called Worklog. When you click on this
button, it opens up the worklog of the record that you have open in
Form A. I created a view of Form A that just has the Worklog field
and the 2 related entry fields. I did an AL to open the window of
that view in Modify and that works, the worklog will open from the
record of Form A and you can add entries like normal.

The problem is occuring after you save the worklog entry. For some
reason, it is not pushing that entry immediately back to the normal
Form A view. I have to go back to Form A and actually refresh the
screen to have the new entry appear in the worklog. I did try an
open window action and used a dialogue window, but that wouldn't save
an entry with the timestamp and username.

To make matters even worse, they don't want to use the save button on
the worklog view form, they want me to create a button to save all the
information. I was thinking that I would have to create a push fields
action for that like I normally do for save buttons, but then I can't
get the entry to save in the worklog like normal if I use a dialogue
window. It will only save in that view without the timestamp and
username and then will not send the entry back to the normal Form A
view.

Any help would be appreciated.

Email Error

Hi All,

I'm getting the below email error message for one user only. The
weird thing is that she will get email notifications if the ticket is
directly assigned to her, but not if her group is assigned a ticket.
I have checked her account and she does have a valid email address.
She is also listed in the group and has a SHR:Assignment record.
She did have her name changed awhile ago and her new email addresses
would not work at all, but once I put in her old email address, she
started getting the assigned individual notificationsany advice?

ARERR:302 Entry does not exist in the database

2008-07-10 Thread jaimie
Hi All,

I'm getting a weird error and I have no idea how to fix it. We are
using ARS 7.1 patch 3 on SQL 2005, Windows 2003 and ITSM 7.00.3. We
do not have a whole lot of knowledge when it comes to 7.1

What happened was that we were trying to give permissions to fields on
the form via the Admin tool. Previous versions allowed this, but 7.1
does not and we got a message stating that we could not do that. Then
it froze the admin tool. After the admin tool came back up, thats
when we logged into the client as a test user and found this error.

However, for some reason the admin can access tickets via the Problem
Management Form. If anyone else tries to search for a Problem
Investigation, they get a message stating that there are No matching
requests (or no permission to requests) for qualification criteria.
(ARWARN 1200). This is only affecting the Problem Investigation form
and nothing else.

The thing is that the test user can save a ticket and it will give a
ticket number but then give the error ARERR [302] Entry does not exist
in database. And if I log in as an admin I can see the ticket and
open it.

It makes me think that its a permission or roles issue, but again I
have am not sure. I have checked my sql log and nothing is jumping
out at me. I was thinking that maybe the permissions are no longer
attached to the form or fields, but I can't just go into the admin
tool and add the permissions to the form like previous versions
allowed.

Any ideas?

Thank you

  Hi All,

I was wondering if anyone could help me with the Mid-Tier.    I have
Mid-Tier loaded on a seperate Windows 2003 server.  I have Tomcat 5.5 and
java 1_0_5_15 installed.    The ARS is 7.1.

What happens is that I can get to the login page no problem.  When I type
in my username and password, then click the Login Button...nothing
happens.  The screen just sits there like there is no workflow behind the
  button.

When I checked out the log it just gives me this error:

(com.remedy.log.SERVLET) : No File Entries were found in server - (Server

  Any suggestions?

  Thanks

Re: Mid-Tier Errors when Logging In

2008-06-05 Thread jaimie
I think the error might be with resolving the mid-tier server name.
When I changed the URL to http://localhost/arsys/shared/login.jsp it
allowed me to log in. As soon as I removed localhost and put in the
mid-tier server name, it started the problem of bringing up the login
page but not letting me login. Is this a mid-tier issue or more of
the windows server issue? its as if the mid-tier server name is not
resolving for some reason. does that make sense?

   Name)

   Any suggestions?

   Thanks

I double checked the mid-tier settings...and I have the AR Server
listed in there and no other servers.

Jaimie, log into the admin page in the Mid-Tier, check your General Settings
and your AR Server Settings and make sure you aren't missing your server name
 somewhere.

I think the error might be with resolving the mid-tier server name.
When I changed the URL tohttp://localhost/arsys/shared/login.jspit
allowed me to log in.  As soon as I removed localhost and put in the
mid-tier server name, it started the problem of bringing up the login
page but not letting me login.   Is this a mid-tier issue or more of
the windows server issue?  its as if the mid-tier server name is not
resolving for some reason.  does that make sense?

BMC_SLM_JAVA_HOME Error

2008-05-14 Thread jaimie
I am attempting to install SLM on a Windows 2003 Server with a MSSQL
2005 db. I have also installed JRE v1.6.0_05. When I run the
installer it keeps coming up with this error Installer unable to
verify BMC_SLM_JAVA_HOME system environment variable. Please make
sure system environment variable is set and its pointing to Java
Runtime environment home.

I opened up the ar.conf and added the following lines:

Variable name: BMC_SLM_JAVA_HOME
Variable value: C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_05

I saved the config, restarted the server and it is still coming up
with the above error.

Any ideas? Any help is greatly appreciated.
