Copy the view you got of the form, then delete the old view.

DEF File Manipulator

2009-07-15 Thread Frank Caruso
Is there a utility that will allow me to easily remove objects from a DEF
file?

Would like to be able to view all of the objects in a DEF file and
selectively remove items. I could manually edit the file but I have had
issues with this in the past.

Thank you.

Push Fields creating loop

2009-07-15 Thread Akos Malindovszky
Hi all!

'm having a problem with the Push fields action in a Filter.
I have two forms A & B. When a ticket is created on A that matches certain
qualifications, then a new ticket is created on form B via a Push field
action in a filter. I want to store the request-ID of the new ticket on form
A also, so there is a filter running on submit on B which pushes the info
back to the matching request on A.
My problem is that when the ID is pushed back from B to A, then A starts
running all the filters again triggered by this modification. Is there any
way to avoid this step. Can I push a value to a form without triggering a
modification?

Thank you in advance.

We've applied only a partial patch 5 and the problem went away but this is
NOT recommended (and we applied the full patch later). The bug is in the

Re: Push Fields creating loop

2009-07-15 Thread Elry
Hi Akos...

That kind of push can easily loop on you...

I would suggest doing one of the following:

1) Using LastId keyword to locate the ID (providing that this is the
only creation initiated by this process).
2) Put a GUID on form A that gets pushed to form B. Then you can fire
another filter that looks up the GUID on form B to return the form
Request ID

Hope this helps.

Re: DEF File Manipulator

2009-07-15 Thread Elry
I agree..

The migrator is great tool for def file manipulation. The only
drawback is that the def files gets translated into migrator format;
therefore, you would have to do a little manipulation to get it back
to regular def file format.

Re: Push Fields creating loop

2009-07-15 Thread ARSmarts Support

Hi Akos,

First possibility: You can add a checkbox display-only field with a
value of 'No'. The filter on form A runs only if the checkbox is $NULL
$. And on the filter on form B, in the push field action, you push the
value 'No' in the checkbox field.
Second one: The filter on Form A should only be executed on Submit,
not on Modify.

True, he may need to keep in mind API's that create tickets but have
exceptions for whatever is the true source for creation of these
tickets. Since he didn't mention the source of creation of tickets (they
got to be getting created somehow and somewhere), he might want to be
careful about what he does with a creation prevention filter. You do not
want to prevent 'too much'.

Or even better still an Active Link that closes a New Window and opens a

We've applied only a partial patch 5 and the problem went away but this is
NOT recommended (and we applied the full patch later). The bug is in the
arserverd binary so there is no way to fix this without replacing this
binary. (anyone remember superzap?)

Re: DEF File Manipulator

2009-07-15 Thread Frank Caruso
My issues is that as I am building a solution I may add the same objects
several times to my master DEF file. From what I can tell, the admin tool
imports each of those objects in the DEF file regardless of how may times it
appears. I find that this can slow down the import and even cause adverse
effects in situations where you are adding or deleting fields from a form.

I found you can open a DEF file in Migrator but you cannot export those
objects back to a DEF file - we do not have a migrator license.

Active Directory Integration

2009-07-15 Thread Shellman, David
We configured our 7.0.1 server (Windows server Oracle instance) to validate
passwords against Active Directory over the weekend. Monday morning was a
little rough with locking out network accounts. We also had a configuration
issue where were not able to check one of the OU's. We changed the
configuration but we still had a few users where we are having login issues.

While looking at the user log file I noticed a changed with what is written out
to the log for a login failure. What I'm seeing is that sometimes (password)
is at the end of the line and sometimes (user) is at the end of the line. For
certain users it's consistently one or the other. In some cases it changes
from one to another. In one case it's about 2 minutes between the change. In
another it's 4 seconds.

 /* Mon Jul 13 2009 09:38:22.0820 */ LOGIN FAILED

 /* Mon Jul 13 2009 09:40:50.7970 */ LOGIN FAILED

   (user)
 /* Mon Jul 13 2009 15:12:16.9450 */ LOGIN FAILED

Any one have an understanding of what the logs are trying to tell me?

You might try looking at the plug-in logs... You can set the

interaction between AD and the AREA plugin...

Check your case sensitivity. Windows is case insensitive but Remedy is
case sensitive. We had instances where a user's username in Remedy was
keyed in as John.Smith but that user would use john.smith to log on to
Windows and got used to typing his username lower case. Then when we
turned on Cross Ref Blank Password in Remedy, the user would attempt to
log on with john.smith, but to Remedy, his username was John.Smith.

Since we are on Oracle we are aware of case being an issue. Our AR System
accounts are always created in lower case. So a user that logins with yyy will
authenticate against Active Directory because they have a User record. We have
configured the system to Allow Guest Users so if a user logs in as YYY or
tycoelectronics\yyy will be logged in as a Guest user because of case

Re: Active Directory Integration

2009-07-15 Thread Kaiser, Norm E CIV USAF AFMC 96 CS/SCOKT
There have in the past been issues with the thick client in versions 5.x
and 6.x. The issue was that if the user keyed the wrong password ONCE,
his account would get locked out. The issue was corrected in 5.x with a
client patch. When we upgraded to 6.x, however, the problem was
reintroduced and we had to patch all our 6.x clients.

So it's a long shot, but I suppose it may be possible that the same
issue was reintroduced in the 7.x clients? Easy way to find out is to go
to an account of a user who's having trouble, be sure his account is
currently unlocked, then go to that person's machine and attempt to log
on to Remedy with a completely bogus password. If his account locks out
after one failed attempt, you've uncovered part of your problem.

Close dialog window without saving

2009-07-15 Thread John Kelley
Hi List

I have a selection field on (form A) that opens a dialog window (form B)
which does a lookup. I have two fields mapped on close to populate on the
parent Form A when the item is selected.
My selection works great and populates my Parent form.

My question is how can I close out of the dialog window without setting
the selection field on Form A and keeping the original item before I
selected it.

I set up an Active link with a close window action but it still picks up
the item I selected from From A after the dialog window is closed.

Any ideas.

I think it is because while inside the guide the table row is changing

Subject: Selecting a row in a table with an AL

Hi All,

ARS 7.1 P6

I have a situation where I need to programmatically select a row in a
table. Based on what I've read, I should be able to do it, and I've
written the code that I think should do it, but it's not doing it.

Basically, I have a display-only form with a table at the top that shows
records the user can edit; the list is filtered based on the value of a
couple selection fields. If they select a record, is populates the area
below the table, where the user can make and save changes. Depending on
the changes made, the contents of the table need to be updated to
reflect the change in the record (or to display a newly created record).
So, I've got a situation where, when I save the record, in some cases I
refresh the table (clearing the selection, if there was one), and then I
walk the table to see if the current record is present in it, and then
select it, so it's highlighted. What I have is more or less like this:

ALG - Save Record

AL - Push Record to Regular Form

AL - Refresh Table if Necessary

AL - Reselect Record

The Reselect Record AL simply loops over the table, incrementing a row
counter along the way, and once it finds the matching row, it sets the
row number to the table, something like this:

AL - Reselect Record

Set Row Counter to 1

Call Guide: Reselect Record

ALG - Reselect Record

AL - Select Current Record

AL - Increment Row Counter

AL - Select Current Row

Run If: 'Request ID Col' = 'Request ID'

Set Fields:

Table = -$Row Count$ (Select the current row, but don't
fire workflow)

Exit Guide

So, when I do active link logging, I can see it iterating over the
table, finding the record and then setting the table to, say, -2, but
the row in the table doesn't appear to get selected.

Am I missing something?

Thanks for your help,

Lyle Taylor

You do not 'Commit Changes' before closing. A 'Commit Changes' action before

My selection works great and populates my Parent form.

My question is how can I close out of the dialog window without setting the

I set up an Active link with a close window action but it still picks up the

Re: Remedy 7.5 Installation - can you delete temp files?

2009-07-15 Thread Lyle Taylor
I would recommend specifying a different temp directory for it to write its
files to. That way, when it's done, you know for sure which files belong to it
and can simply wipe out the entire directory. You can do this by setting the
environment variable IATEMPDIR in your shell that you run the installer from.
I did this by creating a wrapper shell script that sets all the environment
variables that I need for the installation that then calls the real setup
script. Mine looks like this:

#!/bin/sh

export LANG=en_US.utf8
export
LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$LD_LIBRARY_PATH:$ORACLE_HOME/bin:$ORACLE_HOME/lib:/opt/bmc/ARSystem/bin
export
PATH=$PATH:$ORACLE_HOME/bin:/opt/bmc/ARSystem/bin:/opt/java/jdk1.6.0_13/bin
export IATEMPDIR=/opt/artmp

./setup.sh

The beauty of this is that all the 7.5 installers are run using setup.sh, so I
simply copy my wrapper script into the Disk1 directory of whatever I'm
installing and run it.

Hi,

I'm installing Remedy 7.5 in UNIX and I've had a lot of tries already since it
always fails. There were also times when we needed to cancel installation in
the middle, or even kill the process directly.

I've noticed that in the /tmp directory, there's a lot of folders named
install.dir.X (i.e. install.dir.10169). the /tmp folder is already 11GB. is
it ok to delete folders named install.dir.X also, there are files named
env.properties.X (i.e. env.properties.16435), is it ok to delete them as
well? Are there any other files generated during installation that i need to
delete? (i.e. files inside /var/tmp, etc).

Thanks!
Regards,
Kali

Probably need to provide some additional information, such as:

Is this your primary server (does it run escalations, email, etc..)?

Do you have a load balancer in front of the system?

I found it helpful to lower the amount of user traffic that goes to the
primary server where your non-user items (such as escalations) are primarily
set to run.

Thank you - ken

Re: Close dialog window without saving

2009-07-15 Thread Leonard Neely - FOJ
If I understand this correctly, you want to handle the scenario where the
user needs to cancel (or close) out of the dialog window, even though they
may have already selected a menu item on Form B? From what it sounds like
to me, the commit to your parent form would have already occurred since you
have a "Commit Changes" in your AL that fires on Menu Selection on Form B.
What I would suggest is:

1. Remove the "Commit Changes" action from your AL that fires on Menu
Selection on Form B.

2. Add the "Commit Changes" action (before the Close Window action) to
the AL that fires on your [OK] button (I assume that one exist).

3. On your [Cancel] or [Close] button, just have the "Close Window"
action.

This way, the selected values from Form B should only get written to the
parent form if the [OK] button is clicked on Form B.

Re: Close dialog window without saving

2009-07-15 Thread Drake
or if that's too much of a pain, pass the source field's original value to
the dialog window (to a hidden field). If your user cancels, have it
restore the original value before closing the window. Then the commit will
commit back the original value.

Re: Changing username and name in ARS - Need advice

2009-07-15 Thread Jon Chau
Excellent thread that got me going in the right direction.

The data management tool is pretty cool. I was able to leverage it's
existing update functionality to update the Login ID fairly easily by
pushing an entry into DLD:SYS:DataWizAction and creating a copy of the
DLD:DAT:LoginID_Update_G filter to fire on Submit during my People import
process.

Where can I find this feature to turn it on ?

Thsi is more of a Tomcat setting than a 'BMC recommended' setting.

The golden rule for sizing tomcat memory is to not use more than 65% to 70%
of the available free memory before the tomcat service is started. This
gives the server at least 30% to 35% headroom.

With that in mind it is nice to have a max memory of at least around the 3
GB mark where the usage of the servers is about average.

Since you are using tomcat, if you are using Mid-Tier 7.1, I would recommend
to hop on the patch 006. In my experience here the earlier patches had a
memory issue, that addresses OutOfMemory errors that cause Tomcat to crash
which was addressed in Patch 006. Also the performance is way better as I
have noticed that it takes a relatively short time for the server to build
its cache after an initial restart on patch 006 (at least 5 to 10 times
faster) than it was on lets say Patch 003. I haven't tried patches in
between 003 and 006

Hope this helps..

Cheers

Re: Apache Tomcat Memory Pool

2009-07-15 Thread Joe DeSouza
Hi Joe,

This is done in the startup of Tomcat by including a startup paramter for java:
-Xincgc
along with the startup memory and max memory that is defined.

If you are on UNIX you will need to modify your startup.sh file where you have
these lines:
JAVA_OPTS="$JAVA_OPTS -Xms1536m"; export JAVA_OPTS
JAVA_OPTS="$JAVA_OPTS -Xmx2560m"; export JAVA_OPTS

to something like

JAVA_OPTS="$JAVA_OPTS -Xms1536m"; export JAVA_OPTS
JAVA_OPTS="$JAVA_OPTS -Xmx2560m -Xincgc"; export JAVA_OPTS

Restart Tomcat after that and then your process should look something like:
aradmin   3984 1 70 08:09 pts/1    00:00:11 /apps/ar/jre1.6.0_13/bin/java
-Xms1536m -Xmx2560m -Xincgc
-Djava.util.logging.manager=org.apache.juli.ClassLoaderLogManager
-Djava.util.logging.config.file=/apps/ar/tomcat-5.5.25/conf/logging.properties
-Djava.endorsed.dirs=/apps/ar/tomcat-5.5.25/common/endorsed -classpath
:/apps/ar/tomcat-5.5.25/bin/bootstrap.jar:/apps/ar/tomcat-5.5.25/bin/commons-logging-api.jar
 -Dcatalina.base=/apps/ar/tomcat-5.5.25 -Dcatalina.home=/apps/ar/tomcat-5.5.25
-Djava.io.tmpdir=/apps/ar/tomcat-5.5.25/temp
org.apache.catalina.startup.Bootstrap start

Without the incremental garbage collection turned on your process would look
like:
aradmin   3531 1  0 Jun29 ?    00:04:10 /apps/ar/jre1.6.0_13/bin/java
-Xms1536m -Xmx2560m
-Djava.util.logging.manager=org.apache.juli.ClassLoaderLogManager
-Djava.util.logging.config.file=/apps/ar/tomcat-5.5.25/conf/logging.properties
-Djava.endorsed.dirs=/apps/ar/tomcat-5.5.25/common/endorsed -classpath
:/apps/ar/tomcat-5.5.25/bin/bootstrap.jar:/apps/ar/tomcat-5.5.25/bin/commons-logging-api.jar
 -Dcatalina.base=/apps/ar/tomcat-5.5.25 -Dcatalina.home=/apps/ar/tomcat-5.5.25
-Djava.io.tmpdir=/apps/ar/tomcat-5.5.25/temp
org.apache.catalina.startup.Bootstrap start

Are you on UNIX or Windows? The instructions I have given is for UNIX. If you
are on windows I think you need to modify your Java Options found in the Java
tab of the utility tomcat5w.exe

Hope this helps..

Joe

Re: Apache Tomcat Memory Pool

2009-07-15 Thread remedydon
Hi,

I'm on Windows 2003.

We have Dev and QA both pointing to a single mid-tier server.

Just today I installed MidTier 7.1 Patch 7 on dev box which solved the
errors like ARERR 9351, 302 and attachments on Requestor console.

But, when I was trying to access a custom built application (has
flashboards) through mid-tier I got a Tomcat error HTTP Status 500. (Please
see attachments - Screenshot and the log).

I have the max pool size = 1024 and min = 512 MB. Ram = 3.5GB.

Do you think I have to increase this heap size to eliminate this error ?

I see in the postings down the line I see some discussion going on default

I do not have any thread stack size setup! Unlike the maximum pool size

Appreciate your response.

David,
Another thought comes to mind.
on the server go to the control panel, advanced, local security policy.
Look for LDAP in the Local policy, Security options.
does any of the following exsist? Domain Controller: ldap server signing
requirements (Require Signing).
neetwork security ldap client signing requirements ..
--- I have the above cause issues -- with CM and LDAP it breaks it.
ALSO check
Network security lan manager authentication level is it set to NTLMV2?
with the Network Security: minimum session security for ntlm ssp based
-- is the Require NTLMV2 session security required Checked..
--- I have also seen this kill the ldap connection.

--- for whatever it is worth.

Hi Ken,

1.No that server in which performance issue going on is not our primary
server.
so email and escalation is not part of that server.
2.We have a load balancer but i didn't get what is meaning of this sentence
"load balancer infornt of server".
