Re: Monthly chat November 2017

Last I heard scrolling battles your world was still rather experimental and up in the air, nice to hear it's going well, I probably need to  play it and do a db page at some point, actually I have been doing some db updates which I'm fairly pleased about, since I've been adding some things that need pages, hopefully everything should be in order and I should have a news item ready for next week, well it'll have to be next week owing to the fact that I have left my update log file on my desktop and mrs. dark and I are staying with my parents until Sunday since we have yet another! firework display on Ssaturday evening . Actually I've not been well, have come down with a relapse of my annoying throat issue that gives me pain whenever I swallow which I experienced a few weeks ago and doesn't make singing fun, so my singing lesson today was rather irritating and I'm not too happy with myself, though on the plus side my lady and I did do a rather nice duette version of Panis Angelicus which we'll hopefully be doing in concert relatively soon (and hopefully my voice will be in something like working order). As regards the stage fright thing, one thing I find myself is that I'm petrified up until I actually get out there and begin, then I get this massive adrenaline rush when I'm actually communicating with the audience, it's a really nice feeling, albeit I'm petrified right up until the moment I start. Reading wise I'm still plugging away with polgara the sorceress but it's more irritating than I remember, though hopefully it'll improve as time goes on.

I'd also be interested to know what voice your using, since I've noticed some lag in interactions with sapi enabled voices on Windows 10 even on a decent machine. This gets  worse when doing something like system updates, though it's general and not specific to Nvda from what I've gathered. Interestingly Enough, my lady was having a similar issue on windows 7 with nvda, but the problem was simply a full recycle bin, just running C cleaner id the job fine. I haven't noticed this issue myself either, like Defender I run Nvda on  my windows 10 laptop and desktop with no trouble. I've also noticed that Nvda is faster at some things than Supernova, though being as I've been unimpressed at Supernova's windows 10 intiration despite the claims of dolphin this isn't surprising.

Re: Getting really frustrated at NVDA

Hi.It seems to be a problem with UIA more than anything else. To be safe, though, do you have any antivirus installed? Windows Explorer and the header controls with Name etc. are to blame for some of the issues with tabbing. If you press Tab and hear nothing, what do you hear when you press NVDA+Tab?I hardly press Tab these days in File Explorer to even begin to see any issues with it. Are you running the latest Fall Creator's update? Consider creating a ticket on github, but be warned, be specific because if you merely did what you did in the OP then you certainly can't get the issue fixed.

2017-11-02 Thread AudioGames . net Forum — Off-topic room : brad via Audiogames-reflector

Re: chrome add ons and other things, go!

Hi.I'm using chrome right now to write this and completely agree with timberwolf1991.Chrome is a lot faster than firefox for me.I can also delete bookmarks when ever I wish. This was an issue with Firefox for me and had been on and off ever since I started using it.NVDA has this thing where when you press enter Chrome speaks what you've tiped which might be useful if you're a beginner to screen readers but for me it's a little annoying.Have you experienced this timberwolf1991?Here's a feature I'd suggest people try out, even if you just download chrome once.You can do a voice search from google using google Chrome. You could arrow down and press enter on the button, in fact I think you have to do that to allow the feature to work for the first time. Once you've done that, there is an easier way to access this feature. On windows it is control shift full stop, (piriod.) and on the mac it is command shift full stop, (piriod.)This feature has made me very excited."Why? Surely it's just like Siri or Cortana, right?" Nope! This feature is awesome and shows what google is doing to improve Artificial inteligence in its browser.You can ask google, for example, "Who is Harry potter?" The text to speech will reply with a little snipet of a Wikipedia article. Then, and hear is where the magic happens, you can ask it things like, "Where did he go to school?" "How old is he?" "Does he have a girlfriend?"The magic doesn't stop at the wizarding world of Harry Potter. Oh no! How about fruit, do you like fruit? I do. I'll be the first to admit I'm not someone who counts calories but I found this to be awesome.I pressed control shift full stop, (piriod,) and asked "How many calories are in an Apple?" the text to speech told me that there are 52 calaries in 100 grams of apple, not exactly what I was looking for but it's better than nothing. I thought okay, that's cool but let's try something. I then pressed the shortcut and asked, "what about Bananas?" The text to speech then told me that there are 89 calaries in 100 grams of Banana.Isn't that awesome?It doesn't stop there!I thought, okay, let's test this awesome AI thing. I asked, "What is Braille?" The text to speech told me what Braille was, so I then pressed the shortcut and asked, "Who invented it?" I got the correct reply.Alright, I thought, let's try something a little trickier. "When did he die?" It told me.[[wow]], okay, I bet it doesn't know this next one, I thought, thinking i'd one and that I'd be a little disappointed. "Does he have any sisters or brothers?"It told me the answer!What about spelling?I know, and i'm sure people who read my posts know that I'm not a very good speller. I'm working on it but progress is slow. That's okay, I have google to help me out.If you want to know how to spell a word, just press the shortcut for your opperating system, then say something like, "How do you spell..." word you want to spell.If you're British like me you might get a little frustrated with certain words. According to google when I say, "How do you spelll trickier," it thought I said "How do you spell trachea."That's okay, i'm sure this feature will be useful to me in the months and years to come.This is so awesome. the AI remembers what you've asked it and searches  for the answer.Some negatives.1. You do have to ask your question quite quick. I think it's a minute apart, otherwise it seams to forget.2. It seems you can't be on the search box or the text that says, search with voice and must be above it where the buttons and the rest of the page is.I hope you enjoy playing around with the voice search as much as I will.

I have to say from my personal experience here when I was playing STW.First, admin. I saw some people complained about admins on STW. When I was playing the game, I never have a single issue with them. I know, maybe some of them are childish, but not all of them. Some admins like Smoke-J, Diana, Or Mayana, are very helpful when the players are in dangerous situation. This is not to defend Sam, or other admins, it is from my point of view about the admins.Second, as someone have said earlier, Sam should make some items findable, and if people liked it, they can decide whether to donate to the game in order to get more items, or not, it's up to them.That's it for me. And sorry for my poor English. It's not my official language.

Hi,I gave up on firefox with NVDA a while ago. Used to be pretty decent up until 6 months or so ago.I use it when I have to or when things don't work with chrome. With the new firefox coming out firefox will be noticeably slower unless I use the ESR build. All done. Chrome is lightning quick - to those who haven't tried it in years, I seriously suggest you do so.I have a chrome sounds add on, adblock plus, as well as a few others.Browsing the web on an asus transformer book t100 using chrome faster than my AMD fx8350 with firefox.I truly miss the days of browsing the web on windows xp. Now it's all about those graphics and stupid videos baby! Unless you get super complicated with noscript.

Yeah we're really close. In fact, I don't mind sharing that there was talk of announcing the release date sometime this week. But one of the team members requested another week or so to spend with something that has the potential to slow us down—basically he wants to be sure that some of the potential delays won't happen, before we commit to a date that might be too son if the delays do happen. ...that probably makes no sense, but the important thing is, we're very close to announcing the release date—and then the wait will have a definite end-point. Which is awesome.

Re: texture sensitivity

@CAE_JonesThis is something I've struggled with myself. For me, what sort of clinches it is that I have very little interest in anything outside of my special interests. My special interests always dominate. Calling them obsessions would only begin to describe how much time I dedicate to them. And while I know other things are important, I have no clue how to get myself to pay attention to them, or to care about them, so I only deal with them when absolutely necessary. Where as a lot of people, even a lot of blind ones, do like to get out and do things and socialize, for me it is a major stressor especially if I am to meet a stranger or be in a group of people who I don't know well.I do agree that a diagnosis is very difficult to come by in a true sense anyway, and that it is pretty easy to hand out a diagnosis. If, for example, you believe you have Aspergers you are likely to convince yourself more readily that you fit that diagnosis by piecing things together in a positive way and self-diagnose yourself. If you don't believe you have Aspergers you are probably going to question how well the documented symptoms actually fit you, and if you don't want to be labeled as such, you'll fight it and so it is harder in that case to self-diagnose. Officially getting diagnosed isn't particularly easy either. While I don't have a great distrust for all psychologists, I believe an official diagnosis is really not advantageous in most cases because it's not like a body temperature or a blood test that is objective, it's a psychological analysis and you can't do that without some subjectivity. I really don't know the answer. All I can say is that I originally didn't want to be labeled and fought it, but decided ultimately to at least consider I might be on the spectrum. Even though my weirdness, for the sake of broad reference, isn't really debilitating, it certainly makes life challenging on a day-to-day basis, some days naturally more than others. I identify more with people who have officially been diagnosed, not that that really means much, but subjectively, personally, it does make me feel better to know that I fit someplace and I am actually happy I found a label to tentatively put on myself. The way I see it, if someone knows I have Aspergers, and I can tell them why I think I do, they at least know I've given my differences some thought, rather than having no label and everyone assuming I am simply normal, which I know is not the case and I couldn't fake being normal if I tried.I've also heard of people who discourage labels. Many even say there is no such thing as a true normal so how can you label someone as different? They seem to think that being on the spectrum is just an extension of everyday traits.  People who would traditionally be considered as on the spectrum do things other people do, just much more often and with much more attention paid. People who don't have autism stim just as people with autism do, it's just more focused and much more apparent. So everyone, in a sense, is on a spectrum and having a label isn't really necessary. I sort of agree with this viewpoint, but I think it takes some getting used to to think that way, especially if for your whole life you have known things the traditional way. I stick to traditional thinking most of the time but I am not hard core stuck to it, and am somewhat fascinated by listening to alternative viewpoints and considering how they might make me feel a little more positive/better about myself. But if this discussion is to continue, it needs a new thread .

Re: Redspot and STW, between the innocence and injustince

Sam has been buying several moderately expensive sound libraries, not as many lately but he had been a few months ago, and he was very open about it; I'm guessing that he probably spent a few thousand on them in all.Many of these libraries can't be found on torrents or file sharing sites, mostly because they are indi, and several are extremely new and therefore less likely to be shared.He has been using these to add sounds to Redspot and StW, I can hear that they are the same sounds, he often doesn't modify them much, if at all.From what I can tell, his family is somewhere in the middle class, and at the age he is, I can't imagine how he'd be getting this money otherwise, given his relatively sheltered personality... I doubt he's drug running, lol.He's bought some stuff for him self, a gaming keyboard I believe, either a new computer or some new hardware for his existing one I forget which, an exercise ball to sit on while he codes and games, a solid idea for good posture, though that may have been around before, some graphic audio series for sure, but that's not really very excessive in my opinion.I don't know what his finances look like, obviously their are some players that will consistently spend the money, but from what I can tell, STW and redspot are both losing players.Either way, he may not be getting money at the exact same time each month, but he is raking it in from a pretty dependable source, the aformentioned core of big spenders who are unlikely to give up the game any time soon.That's all I know though.

Sure, redspot got a new server and it's less laggy, But for all we know, one of Sam's friends is hosting it.  Do we have any evidence? Does the store specifically says the money will go towards the games improvement?  I am not saying anyone is wrong, just something to think about.

Hi, well I haven't tried it myself but I do use fFSX. I know that it works ok, from what I have heard you can just about take off but the big problem is that it can't land the plane for you yet. Some people in the community were talking with them and trying to get them to improve certain parts but I don't think that's still going on for now. There is a trial version though. The only and best thing I can recommend is fsxpilot if you don't already have it, it can fly fine and it can at least land. Hopefully there will be some developments on MCE landing and stuff but it's not that easy apparently.

Re: Windows10 OCR introduced in latest NVDA Build

Hi. Regarding OCR, I would suggest to have them both: older addon and W10 one, as where one doesn't work, the other might give better results. It's especially true with inaccessible software. For example I have this hardware sampler from Korg, called the Microsampler and I need to use it's otherwise inaccessible editor to exchange samples between the unit and computer. I have been using the OCR addon for it and now the built in thing doesn't work the same so it's really good to still be able to use the older solution. All it takes to get them both working without problems, is to reassign otherwise overlapping shortcut for one of them so there's no clashing between two entities fighting for one and the same key combination. Fortunately NVDA's way of deeling with gestures is actually not all that dawnting, as it may seem and there's always a possibility to undo or revert to factory defaults.Sorry for my somewhat technical and pedantic language, but my own mind understands that kind better than overly general or too funky one.

Re: SoniFight v1.0 now available

I've tried this program out with Ultra Street Fighter IV, and I've only got a few things to work. Pretty cool overall though. The only thing that is really annoying to me is the really loud wind sounds you hear, when playing arcade mode.Things I gotten to work:1: When I'm on the character select screen, the characters do read out. I can also get the color number, costume number, and quote numbers to read out as well.This next thing isn't the fault of the config but, I'd like to put it in here anyway. Because I've purchased extra costumes for all the characters, the config does not read these out to me, and I understand why.I can't however, get the ultras to read out so, I still don't know which ultra combo I've selected.2: The meter gain, and life bars all read out fine. But, as a long time player of street fighter, I'd rather not have those in, because they are a bit distracting.This brings me to my next point.There is a really loud wind sound when I'm playing arcade mode, and I'm not sure what it is. I can confirm that it's not a part of the stage ambiance. I'm guessing that it tells you when you are close or far away from your opponent? I'm not too sure on that though. Anyway, good work so far.

JAWS unable to read text through IAccessible2 with Qt

2017-11-02 Thread AudioGames . net Forum — Developers room : realnc via Audiogames-reflector

JAWS unable to read text through IAccessible2 with Qt

Hello.I am trying to make an Interactive Fiction interpreter (you could call it an "engine" if you will) accessible with JAWS. The application uses Qt 5. For the curious, the application in question is QTads (http://qtads.sf.net).Accessibility in Qt is provided though the IAccessible2 interface, wrapped in Qt-specific classes, and I have implemented the required callbacks in a way that allows me to see what the screen reader is calling. When running NVDA, it works fine. NVDA queries the role of the output window, for which I specify QAccessible::EditableText, and it then requests a QAccessible::TextInterface, for which I return a QAccessibleTextInterface object (which translates into an IAccessibleText object). NVDA will then call characterCount() on the returned object (this is the wrapper for nCharacters() in IAccessible2) and then the various text extraction methods, like text(), textAtOffset(), offsetAtPoint() (when moving the mouse over the text), etc. It then speaks the text I return in those methods.JAWS, however, doesn't want to play along. After it queries the object role, it performs a few calls to characterCount(), selection() and attributes(), but calls to text extraction methods never happen. QAccessibleTextInterface::text(), textAtOffset(), etc, are never called and thus the text is never spoken by JAWS. When the window is activated, JAWS speaks this out:"Alt tab, game text, edit read only, insert f1 help, type and text." (Not sure about the "type and text"; it's kind of hard to tell what it says exactly.)("game text" is the text I return when the QAccessible::Name text is requested though the QAccessibleInterface::text() function.)I do not know where to go from here. Is this a Qt issue? Something I'm doing wrong? I can't tell.My implementation looks like this:I have a QWidget subclass, called DispWidget, that paints the text on screen, driven by the game engine's text layout engine. To make DispWidget accessible, I implement an AccessibleDispWidget class that inherits from QAccessibleWidget, QAccessibleTextInterface and QAccessibleEditableTextInterface:class AccessibleDispWidget: public QAccessibleWidget,

{

explicit AccessibleDispWidget(QWidget* w)

To make DispWidget accessible, I implement an AccessibleDispWidget class that inherits from QAccessibleWidget, QAccessibleTextInterface and QAccessibleEditableTextInterface:class AccessibleDispWidget: public QAccessibleWidget,
public QAccessibleTextInterface,
public QAccessibleEditableTextInterface
{
explicit AccessibleDispWidget(class QWidget* w)
: QAccessibleWidget(w, QAccessible::EditableText)
{ /* ... */ }

// Overrides of the virtuals here -- see below.
// ...
}I then implement or override the appropriate virtuals:// =

Should I give up?

Okay a little back story.I had a case conference before I got out of school about what I would be doing after I left school. So I decided to get a job and a apartment. Well after going through three different job developers and no luck. Should I just give up? My current job developer has been contacting places and those places are reluctant to work with me. They don't want equipment in terms of accessible equipment in there systems. I can't for the life understand this. She said the best jobs that I might get is sorting parts because most call centers in the area will not work with me. She is also thinking about having me do volantear work but I don't know how long that would last. So should I just give up. Because part of my five year plan was to live on my own and get a job. But it has been 3 out of those 5 years. Is this happening to anyone else?

It's a spectrum, but does that mean that what you described counts as the "mild" end? I don't know and it seems like diagnoses are given out easily these days (or at least, a decade ago. Might have changed recently.) And it's harder to diagnose in blind people because things like stimming and lack of eye-contact can be explained without appeal to autism. It's an imperial mess (which is like a royal mess, but with more territory), and I mostly find it coming up in the context of intractable conflict, so I just leave it be.

another suggestion would be funny comments the game or other characters in the game can speak, depending on your actions and the objects. A bit like some arcade machines give comments within the game, motivating you, taunt you and others. Could be funny if there's speech of this sort in the game.

Re: Redspot and STW, between the innocence and injustince

I just wanted to add a few things quick. Yes in the past all BSG events and giveaways were funded out of pocket for STW and other games. This time they are actually being funded by Sam. All donations that anyone gives to BSG only go to site costs as well, not for events or giveaways, for me this seems like it would be wrong. I agree with allot of what is being said here, but wanted to make that clear so folks don’t have the wrong impression. When it comes to the PK events, these are all done by admins including the PK arena. I made the maps and run registration and organization. I always rope Akilor into being a ref for the events so we can run two arenas at the same time. It is no secret I try to put these together just to hopefully put some juice into the game after it starts to look anemic. The issue is they take allot of time and work to run and put together.As for the new items being added. Yes admins have the ability to do some scripting on the server to make items and new stuff. Sam did some server code to allow us to do this a few months back. The shelter recipe was wrote by me, and it took a hell of a long time. I also made the new shelter maps. Sam had to do some server code to allow for new types of shelters to be added. I also wrote the new hammer recipe. Akilor wrote the new survival packs, after all admins agreed on it being changed to help with a flood of survival pack items in the game. Sam added the ability to clear trust lists, before that masters on the game received 1 to 5 messages a day for the past year asking people to clear their trust lists, and we essentially ragged on Sam until he changed it. This is not uncommon, this is our normal way of getting stuff done lol. The same for air necklaces and putting shelters in trees. For the kings ornithology quest, that was possible awhile ago but recently changed after I figured out how to do it. I changed the prices of items in vending machines for the inflation as it says in the MOTD. Temperature and the fix to high energy was Sam coding it after the admins all  came to him with the problem and we worked on a way to fix it. Temperature does need to be adjusted, the limits are not balanced properly, and I think everyone is aware of that. It works for places it is suppose to be really hot or cold, but for those places in the midrange it is not how it should work, at least not in my opinion and that of others. Sam coded it along time ago so admins can update the teleporter locations and that is updated by admins completely now. Also admins control how much of what is received in gifts after Sam coded that on the server. In summary, yes allot of what happens on the game is admins. Over time more and more has become available to use to help the game move along and to add new items. The issue is, yes allot of the stuff we can do is the same old stuff with a new name with a slightly altered effect. We are trying but we are very limited in what can and can’t be done. With the new changes like temperature and energy, those were bitter things to swallow for allot of players, and the best way to make up for this is for some sugar added to the game. The sugar was never added though, and it is allot harder to accept the bitter without something sweet to counteract it. Energy caps were needed yes, temperature is a good thing just not balanced properly, and we need new self-renewable content for the game. I have been thinking on a BSG blog post detailing allot of this and the specifics, so I won’t go into it now as I do not have all the ideas and thoughts fully formulated in my head.Also, just so everyone is aware, we somewhat recently had a STW admin meeting that lasted about 6 hours talking about all of this. We came to some really good conclusions and brainstormed what I thought was very good additions to the game. The biggest issue is there is so much half done on the STW update that I don’t know when or if any of it will be released. The last true client update was in august of 2016, and that was a long long time ago.I am sure many have noticed the previously super active admin group has really started to log in less frequently. We all keep in very close contact and we all have our reasons, but they are all based in the same root problems. Where is STW going to be, why do we put in so much work, what is the end game for all the time we’ve spent on it. For me personally, I cannot answer any of these questions, I find it more and more difficult to be optimistic, I just don’t see where the game is going. At times it seems hopeful, while a week later it seems hopeless.I think I’ll try to get the admins all together again and see if we can come up with a plan and bring it to Sam with the most important things we think need to be done. I think that combined with transparency on what is being worked on and what isn’t could start to move STW in a direction to benefit the players and admins.

I've never messed around much with hard core mode before. What happens if I don't have a clan and I run out of food. Am I just stuck in one spot helplessly forever? I'm only at level 65, and 150 is a long way away! I still want to get prepared though. What tips do you guys have for a newbie to HC mode.

Yeah when we first started work on the soundtrack, Steven was all excited about this new virtual choir he'd bought—actually I think he may have purchased it with the first installment of his payment. And I can definitely hear why he was excited. Interesting thought—there's probably a reason that so many choirs in soundtracks sing in something like Latin rather than English—because all of the sounds are much more consistent in Latin, so you can select from a standard set of vowels and consonants...you don't have all these weird diphthongs and such that we have in English.

Sorry for the double-post, but I will reply to Man of the Dark's post as it was submitted less than a minute before my last one was. Unfortunately most of the adults in my life dont' believe I am because they claim to have met people actually on the spectrum and that I am nothing like them. As you said, that is best saved for another thread, but I couldn't resist offering my two cents since it is something I have strong personal connections with.So that story I promised in post 20. Getting lost is not hard for me to do, even though I had a reasonable mental map of the part of campus I was on. The route I had to take was one I wasn't overly confident in, and I was kinda tired. I would've ordinarily tried to do it myself but I decided to let this girl help me today.Of course many sighted people know nothing about sighted guide unless they've seen it someplace. But I often don't bring up sighted guide and just let them guide me however they choose to because it's never been a big issue for me. Most people do catch onto holding the elbow pretty quickly when I sort of imply that's how I should do it, but my attempts to reach for this girl's elbow failed, and she caught my hand and decided to hold that instead. Had I been on edge or less reserved that day, I surely would've pulled away from her and directed her on sighted guide, but this time was different. I let her hold my hand for the entire 5 or so minute walk to my class. Simply because I liked how her hand felt.This is not the first time this has happened in some form or another. I've always liked hand touch. When I was 10 I became really fascinated about how people's hands felt and other things, but I will save that for another time. Suffice it to say the fascination is stil there, as innocent but strong as ever, and handholding is way more powerful to me than it should be. The girl helping me to class was on the top end of the awesome end of my scale.. Full of that creamy bell sound if I have to equate it to a sound. Her hand also felt kind of agile too which is something I always liked. Holding back my fascination and wanting to explore her hand fully was a challenge. Re: Redspot and STW, between the innocence and injustince

I personally have a big problem with the way STW makes money, and in a wider sense the way games these days raise money that way, especially the ones aimed at young children. Children have little patience, so telling them you can have something for free if you grind at the game for a month or so, or you can have it right now if you pay 3.99 or whatever is such an insidiously greedy way of getting people to unwittingly pay loads more than they realise for a game. I'm happy to pay for a game as good as STW, and would have donated the dollar equivalent of £25 or so anyway, or as it's an online multiplayer game, would happily pay an annual subscription of up to 40 quid. I have capped my spending on the STW store at £40 per year. When I hit that amount, no more DFCs or teleporters, which will undoubtedly mean no more STW; dying and having to craft everything from the beginning is not an option. I did it about five times before I gave in and bought my first DFC. I couldn't have carried on playing if I had to start from scratch every time I died, it would just be way too time-consuming and repetitive. The thing is, the pacing/playability of STW could be vastly improved if it weren't for the fact it'd clash with the revenue stream. Things like having to constantly stop to check with the camera when at a location where you could fall to your death: it could be a lot quicker to move around if like in BK, there's an echo that plays so you know when you're coming to a drop. It could be quicker to get from map to map by not having your energy run out so fast or have to stop to use something to cool off or change clothes, or sleep. And there could be a warning when your thirst gets up to dangerous levels, which can happen surprisingly quickly while you're distracted by chat or whatever. But here's the rub, those kinds of playability improvements would mean fewer purchases of DFCs, teleporters, and energy drinks etc, so it's not going to happen. I'll just stop playing when I have spent as much as I'm going to.

Re: Redspot and STW, between the innocence and injustince

I was actually going to post this in the RS topic that I posted to yesterday, but after reading this thread, it applies to here as well.I have a couple more observations to make.  Most people are intrinsically what they are going to be by the age of five.  Does that mean that they cannot acquire wisdom through experience and mistakes?  No.  Does it mean that they cannot change the way they handle situations, circumstances, or adversity?  Of course not.  But fundamentally, core beliefs and personality traits have been set, and it will most likely take a very traumatic, life-altering experience to shake someone's core violently enough to change them in any significant way.  That means that if intrinsically a person is sweet and tenderhearted, those traits will more readily be evident as they grow into adulthood; the same applies to those who tend toward being acerbic and phallic in their dealings with others.  Right and wrong is also instilled at a very young age; by the age of 12 a child knows that it is wrong to cheat, lie, steal, etc.  I believe that what hurts a child/adolescent most is that they do not have a clear understanding of their true personality or their strengths and weaknesses, and they do not recognize (or fail to acknowledge) that they need help; therefore, they blindly muddle through, hoping for the best.  Let's take the whole Redspot (and now STW) thing, for example:I do not know Sam beyond the few chat sessions we have had related to questions I had in re coding of my own project.  I am not aware of what his actual age is, and as such, I can only go by what I have seen in these threads.  I do not know him well enough as a person to speak on his personality traits and the like.  I will say that it is absolutely normal for human beings to create social groups of like-minded individuals, or individuals with who they share commonalities of interests, hobbies, etc.  His desire to play a game with the friends that he enjoys is absolutely reasonable.  Some people make friends much easier than others; some people have friends numbering in the upper double digits, while some count themselves lucky to have only one or two.  Personality plays a role in this, most definitely.  I suspect that it is much easier for an ESTP or ESFJ to make friends than it is for an INTP or INTJ.  So if Sam has only a select few true friends, then of course, he's going to want to enjoy something that he developed with them.  That being said, no advantage should be given to his friends solely based on that fact, and that applies to the developer as well.  As to the rest, based on what I have read (assuming that credibility is not in issue; it is more difficult to distinguish truth, and the level thereof from each side, where the printed word is the only medium presented) in terms of his unwillingness to change, his refusal to try new ideas, etc., I have to wonder if this is a case where he's not seeing strengths/weaknesses in himself, specifically the weakness of not adapting to change well.  While we all struggle against change to some degree as part of the human condition, some deal with it more easily than others.  Moreover, maybe a part of his reluctance stems from not wanting a particular idea or dream that he envisioned when he first started developing this project to die, or to be altered to such an extent as to render it virtually dead.  Such staunch reluctance (no matter the reason for it), while understandable to a degree, however, is something which in the long-term will more likely than not serve to cause more difficulties than it alleviates and will most likely alienate players from your project, and recognition of these facts might serve Sam well in the future.Ideally, knowing your personality, and what strengths and weaknesses you bring to the table can help immensely in a case such as this.  If I were going to develop an online game such as this, I would choose for my admins an ENTJ as my top guy for their leadership qualities, and I would want a team of at least an ENTP, ENFP, INTP, and ISTP.It is my hope that Sam will learn more about himself over the coming years, because from all that I have read in these threads, it appears that he has the potential in terms of actual coding.  Now he just needs to recognize when the social aspect of things is beyond what he can handle, and ask for help when he needs it.

Re: texture sensitivity

I can't personally relate as well to the letter/sound synesthesia, but I think I understand a little bit about how it feels, because I often use braille imagery to remember things. I often use braille imagery to remember a sequence of letters or numbers. 7 is an especially powerful tactile sensation, it's very bright in some strange way. Even stranger, g is not so bright even though it's the same shape. Maybe it's the number sign in front of the 7 that does it, I don't know. Or maybe it has to do with knowing that it is a 7 rather than a g and they have different textures to me. G is actually kind of a colder sensation to me.I also have a strong association with some words, which come more from memories of their use. It's like if I am introduced to a word which was used during a memorable experience, then every time I hear that word again, no matter the context, either those memories come back or just the emotions do even if I can't remember why. Similar to synesthesia but not the same because it's experiential. The key of A flat major, for instance, is very bright, as a kid it was unbearably so, but I also remember seeing unbearably bright sunlight shining through a window while hearing some cool music in A flat major on TV, so I think that association was sort of brought on by that. It still exists, today, though not as strongly.Speaking of TVs, if any of you remember old CRtvs, I think that's what they are. You could always tell when one was on because of the extremely high squealing sound they make, which I'm told is one of the first sounds you are unable to hear as you get older because it is at the very top limit of human hearing, around 15760 HZ in the case of the one my grandparents used to have which I was bored enough to measure. I can still hear it loud and clear at 24, and even if I hear such a tone in a totally dark room, I can see a very bright light that looks like a monitor or a bright TV screen. It doesn't have to be loud either. It's a very pleasant sensation actually.@flackers your cock story is a bit disturbing but funny. You've inspired me to share an embarrassing story. I'll save it for my next post though, this one is long enough.

Hello everyone. I'm new here and it's my first post outside of the restricted users introduction place.So yeah, I'm a synthesist/electronic musician from Estonia with no sight what so ever. This topic down here was the final reason that pushed me to register to be able to reply.I have been keeping an eye on the offtopic room for some years, as I actually don't play any games on my computer at all, but in here are so many different things to discuss.Now to the main topic. Funny how so many of us have this strange thing with tapes. As my childhood was deeply into those unpredictibly nasty things, it's all too familiar feeling. I also used to get scared by tapes getting chewed up and turning around inside, so the sound became muffled and in reverse.I also have strong synesthesia involving mainly electronic sounds, but also words, names, letters, days of the week and probably something else, that doesn't spring to mind emediately.Let's still try to give some examples of it all:one particular synth sound, known in electronic music as supersaw, has for me a texture of a yogurt, so hearing that kind of sound reminds me of yogurt and it also works the other way around, eating yogurt reminds me of supersaws.Letter a, when sounded "aaa", has somehow all the qualities of a nice persone, so warm and caring, friendly and honest.I also like to touch people's faces and also injoy mine being touched. This experience blends synesthetically with the sound of synthetic bells, sutch as fm synthesis is capable of generating.It's also relevant to put here a couple of interesting facts about my memory.It's not a huge effert for me to memorize telephone numbers, so I don't need and really don't use a smartphone still. I'm not entirely sure how to explain the complete workings of this phenomenon, but it's simply funky and makes my life easier in some ways.Another great thing is that since about five years of age I began to remember all kinds of things by the week days they took place on and it's fortunately still going strong. I would be really depressed waking up and not having it any more, so hopefully it won't go that way.My mother used to be quite afraid and disturbed by sutch behaviour so it made me actually take more interest in the topic and research it a little.Actually all this exploration of myself and others made me realize, that probably the most logical explanation of it all and some more, is a possibility of me being on the spectrum. I don't have any formal confirmation of that, but more than afiew of informal ones from different sources. If anybody is willing to discuss, a different topic should probably be started, but for now may it just be stated here.Sorry for a long rant as a first post, but I'm actually quite happy to be finally here amongst other blind fellows. If anybody wants to contact me personally, don't be afraid to send an email or look me up on skype as Dark-tracker or even better check my music out athttp://soundcloud.com/dRxId

Rofl, it is amazing it still kept recording even when it was wet. That's something most recorders can't do, and it was probably luck more than anything.

Re: Redspot and STW, between the innocence and injustince

Hi.Regarding to the STW store: It is a way to donate to the game to keep the game going, not to request more features. It's up to the players to choose if they wanna donate or not. you have a choice to play for free, if you don't find it worth it to donate.
