Since then, apparently it's been split into two because people have issues downloading it? The whole thing is just weird, and getting more and more complex by the day it seems. The error I got gave me absolutely no indication that I needed the patch, and I wasn't even planning on playing online that day.Granted, it's his game, and I don't dispute that he can do what he wants. OTOH, putting a game up on Itch isn't super difficult, and the app then handles patches. Plus the publishing process can be automated and also does diffs. Makes more sense to embrace the new and improved tooling rather than going out of the way to come up with convoluted solutions. He has quite a catalog of games, and I'd love to just install them and not worry about downloading patch after patch after patch. Yes, in WoT you don't really get to see Shara or Seanchan , and obviously the sea folk travel to different lands because; well it's sort of in the name . However, far more of WoT explores what world we do see, with all the various Kingdoms and their politics. This is I think an authorial and stylistic difference between the two series. Martinn, following very much in the footsteps of Robert E Howard, loves the exotic and unknown, so in Game of thrones there is a hole bunch of stuff we're just meant never to know, or which is just meant to tantalise, Ashai, the Shadow lands, everything around the Jade sea such as Yi Ta, Narthos, Sothoris, etc. contrast that list to the very few places like Shara we don't hear about in WoT. Again, I'd say this is just a difference in Emphasis, in WoT, the mystery comes both from the age of legends and all we don't know, and as you said yourself, a lot of the characters, good bad, uggly etc, and how they will react to things. Take the end of the gathering storm, which is one of the most truly fantastic moments I've read in a fantasy series, and yet involves no battle, no attacks, no war, just the main character coming to a more peaceful understanding with himself. @khomus, in WoT, it's not so much a case of lack of happy endings, it's more that you get so many characters who take focus that the story just grinds to a halt, especially with certain plotlines that aren't advancing the main plot, and as I said, characters you really want to exit the series who just don't. Then again, when my lady reread the series recently she actually told me that she found books 6-10 better than she remembered, though admitedly she's a gigantic WoT fan girl as I said .Interestingly enough khomus, my lady will tell you she hates politics, she doesn't care for factions or backstabbing or anything of the sort (another reason she does not like Martin), yet she adores the wheel of time. eye of the world is also a little rougher and slightly different in Empahsis than some of the other books, both because we haven't quite met some major characters and factions (notably the ais Sidai), and because in much of it Jordan was quite consciously doing a nod to Tolkien and the "farm boy leaves home to save the world" sort of architypal fantasy, even though WoT, though on the face of it does actually feature a hero who does grow up on a farm and is destined to save the world is anything but that. I'd say myself, read the first two books then decide.Oh, but Loyal the Ogier is awesome, again, one of my issues in books 6-10 is how we sort of lost him as a character, or rather, he just sort of gets sent off on a mission and we don't see much of him which was a shame. Though khomus, I can say if you like the Tinkers, those gypsies you mention, yee gods you have some surprises in store if you continue with the series . Oh, some characters go through the wringer, but many just don't. Or they do, and then get a free level-up after it's done. Using that term loosely, of course, but yeah, there's definitely stuff out there way darker than WoT, and I'm okay with that.Another good solid series to recommend is Daniel Abraham's Dagger and Coin series. It's five books, the porse is tight, the characters are well-drawn, and while there is magic in the world, it's not huge and shoved in your face. It's actually sort of subtle.On the grimmer side of things is Brian Staveley's Unhewn Throne series. Much more brutal, closer to grimdark honestly, and with some weak characterization here and there, but it also has some excellent character-building, pretty good dialogue, plus it's full of action. And it's only a trilogy.I have heard of another series I've yet to try, by Melissa McPhail, called A Pattern of Shadow and Light. I honestly don't know how good it is yet, but I've been meaning to take a peek. So I don't know if it has been mentioned, but does anyone else also get that holding in the movement keys automatically interrupts any message the screenreader is supposed to speak? So I end up completely missing messages sometimes. And the message buffer only has the last few so it can very easily get lost in other messages if you check what's in front of you every now and then. Can we maybe have only game-related messages in the buffer since the rest you can easily just check again with the key? Or maybe some kind of sound to indicate that you just got a message and have to check for it. Depending on how you're dressed, it's hot on stage. Hell, even people who wear casual, lighter apparel often find themselves sweating like mad. That comes more from the lights and perhaps from the nervousness of playing in front of a crowd.My angle on this is that wearing a mask is probably no more difficult than, say, wearing a button-down shirt instead of a T-shirt for a gig because of your clientele's tastes or because of the occasion. In fact, it's probably even -less difficult than that. The only big exception to this, IMO, would be if you are primarily a singer. Other than that, a mask is just one more piece of annoying kit you bring with you on stage. No, it's not fun, but I, for instance, would have no problem drumming for an hour onstage if I had to wear a mask. Ditto playing the piano. Would it be a little hot and uncomfortable? Sure it would. But I could still do it, and if it was either do that or get nowhere, I'd do it in a heartbeat, particularly if music was my chosen career and it was very dear to my heart. Pearson and McGraw Hill are playing this same game (McGraw Hill is getting surprisingly better on an accessibility front) but e-earning conglomerates are all about exploitation. AT least the big ones. Online textbooks exist not entirely out of the goodness of their heart, or out of convenience (though there is some convenience to be had). They exist to thwart the used book market. You know, so that people could buy their books at actually reasonable prices? THese behemoths were having none of that, so along came the access code, and the requirement of it for success in the course. ANd then the book prices remain just as conventional as ever, at $125 or more a piece. Microsoft/CompTIA/whatever probably get a lot of incentive for using Pearson for their certification exam platform rather than making their own damn platform, and it cuts costs. I will grant you that, outsourcing is definitely a problem that needs to be taken care of. Legitimately. I don't, in fact I still play them quite often and grew up with the kitchensync games as some of my first. Sure, I think that asset steeling can be tacky or lazy at times, but who am I to judge when it comes to older titles especially, given that a wide selection of high quality, legal and properly licensed free sounds was not available back then like it is now, and that people pass around big collections of random SFX with no ill intent all the time and their friends are just happy for the help and completely oblivious to the legal ramifications.This has nothing to do with morals or personal opinions and everything to do with consistency and honesty. No amount of convincing emotional arguments are going to change the facts of the situation, nor how the rules are currently written.@RTT entertainmentYou don't need to convince me... I wish it was that way as well. What do you thin Not intending to do thread necromancy here, but I thought I'd chime in with my thoughts on this Alzheimer's disease documentary. I can't remember precisely when I saw it, but it was this exact thread which made me aware of it, so thank you RTT entertainment for bringing it to my attention.I've always been a bit of a biology nut... though sadly I don't know or care about nearly as much of it as I should. I've always been fascinated though with psychiatry and psychology, mostly because I have issues of my own which I am trying, sometimes successfully and sometimes in vane, to understand.In short, this documentary moved me deeply. Movies can sometimes make me cry, but with a serious matter like this, I often just bow my head in sadness and in fear. I didn't cry while watching it, but I did get a lump in my throat during certain moments and had to shut it off and take a walk around the house to distract myself. I didn't think a documentary could impact me so much, but it did, probably because my mind was receptive to every little detail. I found myself watching parts again and again, particularly spots when Malcom would say things that didn't make sense, or would babble, desperately trying to be heard and understood. It just made me sad to hear that. It's one of those things that reading words cannot convey, you actually have to hear it being recorded to feel it.I also felt deeply for his wife Barbara, who seems to have phenomenal patience. The way malcom would have sudden outbursts of anger really concerned me. At first, I didn't understand why he was being so violent, but then I did: he was angry and felt threatened and out of control of this situation. On some basic level, he must have known what was happening, even if he couldn't talk about it, and I don't think I could've handled it much better if I were him, and that scares me. The fact that Malcom was musical and innovative before his illness just made it hit home harder for me, since I am musical and, well not exactly innovative, but i love experimenting and coming up with ideas.This documentary reminds me of this one, the Man with the 7-second Memory, where Klive Wearing suffered immense brain damage due to a viral infection, losing his ability to create new memories and to recall many old ones. As it turns out, he was also British and also a respected musician. That documentary didn't move me as much as the alzheimers one, but it did do something to me. Perhaps the one about Klyve Wearing didn't do as much to me because his illness was related to a viral infection rather than a natural cause, so I at least have a little more power to stop myself from ending up like him; try to avoid getting serious infections. I already have to do this because of an autoimmune condition. Not saying I won't ever have a horrible infection like that, but i'm trying to reduce my chances.The good news is that Alzheimer's doesn't run in my family. That doesn't necessarily mean I won't get it, but I'm at least not genetically predisposed to it so far as I know. But still, I am scared, probably way more scared than I should be, that I will end up with some horrendous brain problems. I have no real reason to be scared, at least not a good enough reason to start preparing for such a catastrophe, but my brain still plays tricks on me and makes me a pessimist, flashing ahead to a time 30, 40 or 50 years down the road where I am dependent on someone else for everything because my mind can't even find the words to say how much it has lost. Ironically, I'm not afraid of dying or physical ailments. So long as I can use a computer, speak and enjoy food and drink, I will probably be okay. So long as I can think for myself, carry on conversations and feel like I am useful in some way, I'll be okay. And if I die a nonviolent, non painful death, I'd take that over months of suffering. I'm nnot even afraid of what happens after I die. But take my memories and thoughts away and keep me alive to experience it slipping away bit by bit... Hell no. I'm such an intellectual person. I need my mind or else I have nothing.I know it's completely pointless to think ahead like that. Especially when I'm not even in my middle years yet. There's no reason to dwell on it. But it's still scary. It makes me feel like I have to do something big and spectacular now while I still can, but I don't know what.Ah well, maybe this was a wake-up call, to really make me think about the life I want to live, and live it to the best of my ability, rather than putting it off because it's too hard to think about. While I fully intend to enjoy the life I have and hope it is a long one, I'll probably think of this story from time to time, and use it as a reminder that I need to stop being lazy. Whether that'll actually happen though is anyone's guess.In any case, I really needed to get this out... tbh it's been hard for me to think about

A braille note question Does anyone no if the apex can connect to a guest network that requires you to sign in using your browser? I tryed connecting the apex to my school's guest network. When I opened the browser, I couldn't get to the page that requires me to sign in to the network. Can this evwen be done? I no the apex has a web browser. So what is the problem? From the beginning of this thing with Pearson, I've made it clear that I would do whatever I could to help make things go smoothly. this is why I really want to do these tests from home as it would be the safest and healthiest way to go about this. they're not working with me, and I don't want to end up going into a literal testing center and just get more of a run-around because things aren't put together so that I can test there. I have tired to act in the best interests of everyone involved in this, and what have I gotten for it so far? Nothing, absolutely nothing accept a bunch of excuses. I will continue to do things in a way that tries to keep everyone safe, but they're going to have to work with me here or there will be problems. As it is, they're not even accredited with the BBB, so why Microsoft, CompTIA, or any other major company would go through Pearson for their testing is beyond me. However, there it is I guess. Yeah, there is certainly some tough work ahead, that's for sure, but I've always been told that there are times when if something isn't easy then it's worth doing in the end. should be interesting to see what happens. I don't know if Aaron codes in other languages, maybe he does, but Unity is inaccessible for us, until that changes it's very hard for any blind person to work as a mainstream game developer in any capacity. Jack, when I said that an employer not hiring someone because they wouldn't wear a mask, I was saying that in light of the fact that in doing this they might well have turned down one of the best employees that they could have had if that person had all of the required skills. Turning someone away when they have all the skills you require is not a bright move, virus or no virus, mask or no mask. I am also not surprised that as many people leave bathrooms without washing their hands as we see happening. Personally, i always remember to do this, and that's why I find it insulting to have to be reminded of that. However, I do get it that there are people out there who just don't seem to get this, and that was the case long before all of this stuff as you said in your post.I get that these companies are trying to do their best from a health and safety standpoint. That's why I want to take their tests from home. I am trying to do what is best for everyone, so it isn't my problem if they chose to beat around the bush when it comes to accessibility. i will play their game and wear the mask as I have said since I will do anything I can to make this work. I will, however, make it very clear to them, respectfully and professionally of course, that I am not pleased about it--not one bit. I didn't realize that so many folks had trouble with Pearson in terms of accessibility. I recently spoke with a lady who is also blind who went for some teaching certifications a while back, and she had a real time of it with them as well. Taiwan probably has the best pandemic response in the world right now despite noone giving us credit, and masks are only part of that solution, definitely not 25% of it... so if you're going to make exaggerated claims, please provide links. Having said that, I do agree that masks will do a small bit of good, and so will wear them. But I wear them les than recommended, that's for sure. Only in confined spaces, and even then, I'm not a fan of the idea. People expect herd immunity, but that's not going to happen if you try and stop transmition from happening completely. I'm not in favour of throwing wide the floodgates, but if people expect herd immunity to happen without risk, they're fooling themselves. And no, imo, a vaccine is not the same as herd immunity, though I might be wrong there. People are being alarmist about cases rising, but that's what happens when you start loosening restrictions. The only solution is to go back to a full shutdown, that's the only sure fire way to ensure transmition goes down and stays down.And after saying all that, I'm going to make a disclaimer and say that I'm speaking of te top of my head, so much of what I will say will be wrong. But this is opinion, take it or leave it. And I'm very open to being educated if I'm wrong. Tentem or other games did exactly like that for the video gaming scene and this is completely legal unless you are copying stuff like content. That was cleared few times before regarding osme of the pokemon inspirations. There were also examples of games blocked like official pokemon clones but thats the different case which you can compare this to it. Though why didn't you also send in CP for using Ninty's sounds? I mean Ninty did nuke all the classic BGM a while ago off of Youtube and IIRC Sega was involved in that too so...Point is, you can't copyright broad concepts, like the sky being blue. You can copyright very specific implementations of those concepts. It depends on which Nintendo you sent it to, and if you procided enough proof for them to deem it worth going after. Admittedly, they may look into it and decide it is, actually, worth going after. Ninty has a hell of a lot more money/lawyers than VGStorm, all it'd take would be Ninty sending a cease/desist for Manaman 1 and 2 and a letter ensuring no games like that can be made.
