Mayana. That is a very generous offer. I can get them printed at a couple stores around here, so that is something I might convince my wife to get me as a late birthday present or something. I'd need ten of each die, I wouldn't ask an individual to use that much material on my behalf.

True, you can get real dice at the dots rpg project. They give the STL file for free, but ordering the dice is a bit pricy. $54 for a set of seven. If you have a 3d printer though you can probably really cut down on the costs.

Re: Any advice on how I can find decent regen items on Alter Eon

Here's my setup when I play a necro.I have armor, detect invis, fly, and dread portent maintained, but recast works just fine. If you have demon teeth use that, or else make sure you harvest dragon teeth. the best place on the islands is the sea serpents in the viking area. Once you have teeth, just top up every now and then, but otherwise I use skeletal warriors only since I don't care if I replace them. I use clay men as tanks because well they're easy to recast. I use a ghoul at low levels, then a vampire at high level just because the vamp will respawn and I don't have to recreate. To make a ghoul or vampire, go kill something easy like a city guard or hey, a viking. Cast preservation, prepare corpse ghoul, then prepare corpse soulstone. I use pales it takes between three and five depending on your level. Also, summon a familiar, I use the ebony demon so it gives your minions hp regen.Getting a full set of minions takes me at level 36 about a minute, and I run with a clay man, vampire, ebony familiar, and as many skeletal warriors as I have control points for, I think I have three.Again, my setup is meant to be easily replaced without a hastle, and I only vary from that setup in certain cases where a better tank might be more efficient.Regarding druid, I just gather until I can make the tincture I want, then I make as much as I can in a bit. I'm not that great a druid though, so maybe others have better advice. I mostly use my druid for utility exp, I don't really like running mobs with it.

Re: Are Miriani and Star Conquest Worth Playing?

The problems I have with SC are that your decisions only matter when the hosts want them too, and usually in the most negative way possible. Also the favoritism. very much the favoritism. IF you watch long enough you notice that the same group of about six people end up with everything, even though they hardly work or associate with the rest of the playerbase, and when they do they are always sneering down on them.Meanwhile, the rest can be doing the exact same things, and yet they do not get all the fun things or get applications approved, or whatever.Second, they left the AEU hanging for several years. That is way too long to leave a thread open and a quarter of the potential playerbase locked out of many of the activities. There was no reason for it, and despite many players trying to rectify the situation ICly, there was nothing the hosts would let succeed until they just ended up doing it on their end with no player involvement whatsoever, or at least very little.RP on there means, getting a meeting with a host character, getting your marching orders, and following through.Miriani on the other hand is just a lot more toxic at the surface. It is a stressful game to play always watching over your shoulder, and I quit that years ago just because I was sick of it.Cosmic Rage was alright, but it's a lot of grinding. I was hoping they would do more for exploration, but that is a real pain.Vast Horizon is still in its infancy, but the hosts reward rp points regularily, and there is a lot of interaction between NPC characters and the players. The game has a lot of potential, and it is the game I am currently spending time with.

Re: DnD - Running official Modules as a blind person

Well, if running a module makes you feel more comfortable then by all means do it. If you do that, what I do is break the module down, all area descriptions are in separate files. All NPC's are also in separate files. Put them all in their own folder, so you have something like the following. The mine's entrancetunnel and first chamber]/*]koboldkobold leaderMake sure you read through the module twice before you run it and once more before the session. What the person who taught me made me do was read the entire phb front to back, and the entire dmg front to back. He said, "You don't need to know every rule, but you need to know the rule exists, and where to look things up." That is pretty sound advice, and that is with 3.5, so there are a ton of rules. Also another piece of solid advice is to have the rule during the session that if there is an adjudication disagreement, make a ruling on the field, then if need be, look it up after the session. Sometimes we screw things up. Running is not easy, but it is so rewarding.

Re: DnD - Running official Modules as a blind person

So, I am currently running four campaigns a week for sighted and blind players alike. Mostly homebrew, but sometimes I throw in a module.I don't like modules in general, except to help springboard my own ideas. Most of them are pretty poorly written, or they don't fit in my world where I want them so I end up redesigning them anyway. That being said, the way I started to run was to run a small three session campaign. My players enjoyed it, and said they would love to play more, so I took that three session campaign, sat on it for a few weeks, and it grew to the almost two year thing that it is today. As The Angry GM says, the best way to get good at running games is to f$ run games." By the way, The Angry GM has a lot of great tips for running. I highly recommend his site.I have a text file template for a 5e character sheet, which I would be more than happy to put in its own post for you to use. Feel free to adapt it as you see fit.As to d, the character creation tool is finicky but accessible enough, but the character sheet layout when it's all said and done is absolutely terrible.Regarding maps, I don't use maps unless it is an extremely chaotic fight and I know I'm going to lose track of positions. If it is one of those, I just use an excel sheet, nothing to terribly fancy, and I can even pass it out to my players. I have also used brush tone to make world maps, but they take a long time, and it is hard to get it to where I would like, so again, very very basic. Just saying that, "Jeck's Crossing is on the northern border of Melkiar and Tiria along the River of the Leaping Trout about fifty miles from the eastern coast," is good enough for most.My life basically revolves around D these days, so feel free to ask questions.

Just as a quick aside, people bitch that a mud doesn't have a soundpack, then they bitch if the developers make one, but it isn't up to the right standards. That's the beauty of soundpacks, you can make it yourself. The game has a lot of potential, and we will see where it goes after opening day. I will say that it is the same, but different, and I think some people will enjoy it, and others will not..From what I know, they used the Miriani open-source moo code, I forget the name. They have been working on this for several years, and have done a lot of learning in the process. It is like all muds on opening day, there will definitely be more added later on as the game develops. They definitely have a plan in mind, and I know that they want their players to be able to make a difference in the world, unlike some other space moos, where if you try to have a plot and aren't the "favorite," you get stonewalled no matter what you do.Again, we will see how it all turns out after opening day.

Re: Using boards for rpgs

I write my room descriptions in html, then link the exits to other pages, and the npc-s are linked as text files. When running a battle, I have an extra notepad window open with the npc name, and hp. If I'm feeling ambitious, I'll put what player the npc is near, but when you have a hundred of them, or even just more than about ten, it really becomes a pain because the battlefield is so fluid.I think a lot of placement and remembering who is where during a battle just comes with experience. Excel, works well too for maps, you don't need to know much, just how to copy say walls down as far as you want so you don't have to write wall in each cell. What I have done when mapping a city is send the map to one of my sighted players and he color coats it for himself and any of the others who want it. Other times, I just made an html index page of all the different locations in the town and sent that to them. The links won't work for them, but they'll have a list of places they can go.I have thought of trying to make a tactile battle board for myself, even though we play through discord, just so I can keep track better. Also, if one of your players is better than you are, there is nothing wrong with having them keep track of how many they killed in what groups. So long as you guys all have fun, you can do it any way you want.

If you run a minion class it should generally be first. The higher level gives you better minions, and when you use them to tank, that makes a big difference. Druid mage is actually a good combo, you can get your minions, go into magecast and channelcast spells for damage.

Re: Alter Aeon classes for caster and mass damages

Generally on Alter, and most games I have seen, area spells and affects are not as effective as single damage spells. IN general though, if mass damage is what you want. I would go with druid. Tempest, blizzard, a spellstaff of call lightning, or fist of the earth, there are lots of options for area affects as a druid.I think mage has frost flower, fire field, and shard storm. Greater fireball might hit a second target, and cone of cold hits some or all the targets that you are engaged in. Chain lightning is useful if you are solo and swarmed, but otherwise ends up bouncing between your group more than it hits the enemy. Those are your best choices for area attack casting classes. Druid mage is definitely a viable build, although cleric is always a good second class as well.If you go with a minion class though, make it primary. Otherwise your minions will not be affective in the areas you fight.

Re: Alter Aeon: Multiclassing question

It really depends on what you like. Both methods work well together. Warriors are a little more straightforward, and thieves require slightly more planning. Still with both being up at the top, you'll know a lot from each so can benefit from both pretty well.

Re: Alter Aeon: Multiclassing question

Druid cleric is a good combination, you need wis, int, and charisma. Druid warrior has some of the same stat drawbacks as necro warrior, but it is doable. I would think though a warrior druid would work better, just throw up earth walls when you need them and keep pummeling your foes.As far as cast level, as a necro a cast level set is all you will ever need, which is nice. Druids though, I like to stay in my druidcast because it will make my other druid spells more effective as well. If I switched to something like magecast or necrocast, or a regen set, I'd lose that benefit, and my other classes are lower so they wouldn't be as powerful in full sets anyway.

Re: Alter Aeon: Multiclassing question

Both necro mage and necro cleric are good choices. I am more a fan of the mage route though. Third class cleric will get you enough healing and protection, and I use my mage spells to vary it up for skill experience. It is true, now that clerics were reworked they are a lot more useful higher in the class list, and cleric is by no means a bad choice, but like Jayde and Gisco said, int and wis for both are a major plus. Charisma is nice to have, but I'd just make sure to have enough for what you need.My necro is 36 necro, 30 mage, 25 cleric, and he survives in groups that are considerably higher level than he is.

Well, like I said, once I routinely got past 110, I did life and do it just fine. I don't even pay attention to what cells are what, or care, so long as progress is made. I should probably do an unmodified run just to see what it's like now. maybe next time. Also, I have no doubt coordinated helps, but I think it will help a lot more when I hit the next ten zones or so.If discipline II is what I think it is, it wasn't easy, but maybe I'm getting it confused with Frugal.

Re: Discussion: should volunteer content creators get rewarded?

So, several things. First, I don't think stopping anyone from becoming a builder is based on typo reports. If that were the case, I know of several who would not be. I have seen some of the typo logs and a lot of them are because people did not read correctly.Another thing to mention is that if it was during an event, there is a lot of criticism thrown at the staff during them, and they, quite understandably, have little patience. Could they do better? Absolutely. Are they stubborn? Yes. If you watched the interview of Morpheus, you can get a good understanding of why he is the way he is.They also don't take builders generally who are under a certain level, or hours played or something just because that person might not be familiar with much of the mud or have experience with the game as a whole.Back on topic though, I think in terms of muds, if you have played them enough to want to build, you should know what you're getting into. Like Liam said, voluntary work is voluntary. If they wanted to compensate in some small way, great, but I wouldn't do it because of the compensation.

I forced my way to 120 once, and I got the coordinated perk. I'm spending most of my helium on carpentry and coordinated, but the cost is almost to the point where I need to make several runs to get any higher. I'm still low on damage output, and I'm still not keeping anywhere near up on coordination upgrades. I think the most I got is 94.Runs are taking me no time at all to about 90, but then the rest takes me about two weeks. Any suggestions?

Re: Space Muds with Decent Sound Packs?

Some clarifications about SC.First, it is indeed roleplay intensive. You can't say over your comms, "I'm going afk for a few," or "sorry guys, my vipmud froze on me." They will catch that and give you ooc warnings pretty quickly.Second, you do indeed need to write a concept and profile to advance beyond a certain point or buy any ships beyond the flitter, cargo hauler, or fighter. You can, however, join in on other people's activities. We take cadets on things all the time, and people are happy to train others. IN fact, as I speak, two cadets are going on a nest with two other people right now.Finally. They take metagaming pretty seriously, and they will hold it against  you for a long time. Metagaming is using out of character knowledge in character, so knowing that Assault is Fringe and who he is and showing up suddenly being best friends when you're League looks suspicious and is pretty easy to spot. Join in, and let things happen organicly.

I have yet to find anything I like better than the acid smasher for groundstrike. It doesn't work well on flying enemies so then is when you skip to lunge and leap and all that. Switchin up your skill usage also keeps the skill exp going. Spamming the same skill over and over will lower the amount you get in the end.As a thief, backstab, cripple, they're great, but the skill that takes the cake at mid level is shadow blades and knife throwing.

As a warrior, use groundstrike, and combos. It's okay to level in areas that don't give you cap experience for every kill. Running fast mobs gives you better experience, and using your skills gives you experience. I've gotten levels just by crafting, and doing no combat whatsoever.

Fortunately enough people made it on on the anniversary I got a free save item, but still. I figure I'll wait until the activities have been revamped, and nobody ever seemed to talk on the channels so it was a nice place to just relax and do stuff. And yes, that post is pretty spot on. You can't wormhole across the skims, but fortunately you don't have to. Ask around in game where to buy scoops and mounts if you need help. The Fringe ship book is out of date, but the point values should be in there. There are ships within that point range, but as a cadet, you are stuck to the main three flitter, cargo hauler, or fighter.Same with the salvage station. Ask around, or listen to your comm notifications. People drop off salvage there quite often.

Re: Longer running alter eon playthroughs?

Keep in mind, mush, if you use mush, gags out a ton of text, so you are probably doing things you just can't see. At early levels, and even into the mid game, they handhold you pretty well, so there isn't much you need to really worry about in terms of finding the right equipment. Just use the identify command to see what you need, and use common sense. Your necromancer mage doesn't need AC 10 dex 2 piece. As regards to skill and spell use, use them when you can. You're not going to win most fights by just letting your character autoattack. Rest and regen as needed,  but be mindful of aggressive monsters. Find a safe room.Instances are great because once you clear out most wandering mobs you should be relatively okay since you don't have to worry about repops.Regarding stats, your class's primary stats are the most important. Don't neglect your other stats though. Train your primary stats, then the cheapest, is my strategy, with preference being for the stats of my second class, and cleric stats being third preference.I recently made a thief warrior and it was a lot of fun. I made it to total 80 in a week by just following the quest lines and the stats have nothing under 17.OH, one more thing. use the check command. You don't need to get all your skills right away. Get the critical and important skills on your primary, get the critical skills on your secondary, then mostly stick to utility stuff on everything else. Never feel bad about asking for advice. People are always happy to give you there right answer, and there really is no way to permanently screw up your character.

Re: Space Muds with Decent Sound Packs?

Fringe ships don't have "better weaponry," just more weapon hardpoints, which are both great and not because  you have the combat energy grid. The combat grid gives each weaponroom an allocated amount of energy, let's say you have the best one which gives you 1100 units of energy per room. Your chainguns take 12 units of energy each to fire. So, in a room with four or five turrets, that's 48-60 energy per shot, which, due to that grid's recharge rate is sustainable. Then take the fringe ship like the fantazain, and it has sixteen chainguns in it's room, that's sixteen times 12 which is 196 energy per shot. That is less than a minicannon, but take into account those chainguns are also firing at a faster speed, so you will end up draining grid at a much faster rate. Once you don't have enough energy to fire all your weapons you'll be reduced to what you can fire.In addition, each weapon hit only ever hits one component, so if you pop that component any extra damage is wasted.Regarding profiles, they are a pain only because the hosts seem not to agree on what they're looking for so what might have worked for one person doesn't work for another. As far as them being jerks. They do not take criticism very well, and, let's just say that all the really neat things, they are all in the same people's hands.Case and point, On a trip I was on recently I had scheduled to do a mini-event with them. My wife surprised me with an anniversary trip for two days, and I was not able to be on quite as much as usual. I woke up in the middle of the event, and tried to take control since it was my ship. I go into the control room, and I see all the people with uber exploration experience there, and when I tell the rest to come in to be able to participate, they start biting my head off.ON another trip that just happened, they went to this human station aboard a Mutuality ship. they all from what I understand were excluded from a meeting with the Mutuality and the station to set up trade agreements. Then the station gave away several pets, but not enough for everyone. They decided to group them by couples then give individuals their's, but two people in the Mutuality decided they wanted one each, and they got them. It's little things like that which are irritating, and which you won't see at first, but after a while will start to annoy.

Re: Space Muds with Decent Sound Packs?

It's all relative. The alliances are pretty balanced. Fringe is pretty active now yes, and they do have a lot of guns. League is also very active, and they are probably the most balanced in terms of ship tech, and second best at exploration. AEU is the hardest to play because of roleplay history that is taking forever to resolve, and Mutuality... well, they are application only, and it always seems like everything really interesting that happens happens when they are heavily involved, so take that as you will, but essentially, League, Fringe, or AEU are the choices, and me personally, I would prefer League or Fringe.

Re: edrake frustration in entombed

Ranger is decent with assassin. IN fact, using volley with sneak attack and critical hit can kill everyone in two rounds if you factor in the hiding.Where it sounds like you're lacking though is a healer, and one party member should always be a healer, because you never get enough healing scrolls, nor enough money to buy enough healing scrolls. Bards work well against the drake too though, sleep song or whatever some of them are really help if they are high enough level to affect it.

Yeah. First rule of GMing, no plan survives contact with the players. What I did was rough out an outline for the whole campaign, and set different benchmarks for levels when I want them to encounter certain plot points, and let them fill in the rest by their actions. It goes some weird places, let me tell you.

Re: Good news for all d fans

I didn't think I would be all that interested in superheros either, but making up the character and watching him build the world has made it one of the campaigns I'm looking forward too the most. We still have to finish our Victorian game though, which he said will take at least another year and a half. He does a ton of research though, this victorian game he had been working on for several years before we started, so the world and the npc's are quite flushed out. Also, adding the backstory really brings the player characters to life. For instance, my Victorian character is a fast hero named Henry Hannibal Higgins. He is the youngest son of a minor noble who ended up as a midshipman in her Majesty's navy. After discovering the captain had been shortchanging everyone's pay, Higgins took it upon himself to steal the money and pay his fello soldiers their propper wages. Sadly this lead to his dishonourable discharge which has caused some trouble for him and put a strain on his engagement with the beautiful Emily Harcourt, a daughter of a wealthy trading family, as well as estranging him from his own family.I love muds, and you can kind of get to it with games like clok, but tabletop/skype is much more dynamic and enjoyable.

My players were in the dwarven cleric's home to help his father. Turns out, someone in the Dwarven community is a traitor and in league with demons who have started possessing many of the dwarves. The cleric's father ended up being captured and brought to the temple to be, "healed," of a crossbow wound to the leg that never healed.Sadly, the medium for possession was a chaos modified healing potion, and this just after the opening battles of the fourth Goblin wars. Anyway, they were rescuing the dwarf, and were being chased by a bunch of dwarven priests and acolytes, and my warlock, who is quite martial for a warlock, took an eldrich glaive, and attacked the keystone of an arch at the top of the stairs just as they were rushing the party to knock them all down the stairs. He busted that thing collapsing the arch atop about ten dwarves, and making good their escape. It's things like that you can't do on a mud, or I saw them try to knock hobgoblins off a cliff by taking the rope they used to rapel and swing into them, or use a featherfall ring to jump a thirty-foot river with steep banks.Someone is always doing something crazy, and that's what makes it fun because as GM, I work with the players to try and make their awesome ideas possible, just so long as they remember that I can steal their awesome ideas and use them against them!EditOh, one of the people I play with is planning on running a superhero campaign after we finish our Victorian d20 modern game. I think we're using a hodgepodge of different systems combined, but he has over twenty-years experience running these things while my campaign has only been going on for six months.

Re: calling all mud players

Interesting questions! First, there were a lot of good points above. I would like to add that if it is a potentially grinding activity, it is automated so that I can leave the window and read or go clean or cook or something and just check up on it occasionally. If it is not something that is grinding, it can either be aborted with no serious penalty, or it is short enough or constant enough that having a life outside the mud is possible.I am going to bring up Star Conquest again. They do quite a few things right, asteroid mining is a lot of grinding, but once you set it up you can just let it run. On the other hand, I hate ground combat because I do three hours of work and get practiclly nothing useful. Also, I love their exploration system, but like sailing, it is very dependent on the flow and so judging when you will get somewhere, or depending on drift how long it will take you to actually find the thing you're looking for can vary.I think the most important thing for rp muds especially is that people have lives outside the mud, and that will take precedent.A good mud can be any number of things. I think the most important things are player choice, and varius viable ways to advance. Good hosting is important, but not necessarily necessary. I still play Star Conquest even though I do not think their hosts are that in touch with their players.

Re: thoughts about levelling in rpgs

For the record, they got rid of the micro timers on Alter Aeon a while ago.I look at levelling like this. If I'm some no-name peasant who picks up a sword, I am going to learn much more because it is completely new. By the time I'm level twenty-one, yes, I will learn quite a bit from my dragon killing, but on the other hand, it's going to take a lot more effort for me to find something new to learn because I'm already relatively expert at my field. It's like learning in any field. The basics are easy, the middle is also relatively easy, but becoming an expert takes years and years.games like Project Bob (which I don't believe is around anymore), Clok, and Lost Souls have a more linear progression which I think works better than the pure levelling system.

This sounds like it could be useful. I am currently trying out new ways to make maps for my sighted D players. I have a friend who uses XL, but I don't have that on one of my computers, so it's not that convenient.Having the ability to include text would be helpful as well as even overlaying a grid so they can get the proper scale. Also, the ability to quickly draw partial polygons, (I.e) half a circle, or three sides of an octagon would come in handy.

What I did, and probably what I did takes all the challenge out of the game, but I always trained my defense up so that attacks never really hurt because they all did 1 damage. I would imagine you would do fine at the next difficulty though, you can always level up in the first few stages, or buy fruits before you change to beef up defense.I am really looking forward to not having to replay difficulties in their entirety once they have already been beaten once, for situations just like this.

Re: I Suck at BK3 and I Need Help

So, honestly, I levelled my spirit sword, now I only use other weapons just for kicks, but I got your save and beat the level using the needle launcher 4, and lemon bread. The trick is to stay right next to Carla, I'd say within five tiles or so. I go to her right, and just plow everything that comes from that direction. If she gets hit, I imeediately used a remote medical kit. Here's the link for the save with it completed, if you want.the bk3 save with 12-2 completed

Re: I Suck at BK3 and I Need Help

Well, I don't have the cat spear yet, and I'm close to level 2000. Lazy mostly. I primarily only use my spirit sword. I levelled it up to around maybe 20 or so before it became useful to me. I just got the magical ball as well, and I did it mostly by luck.

Re: I Suck at BK3 and I Need Help

My first playthrough I did it almost all with the triple yoyo once I could get it. What I wish on the Carla stages, because she is really stupid, is to be able to give her some direction. Stay to my left, or something like that. I always end up killing her several times attempting those stages. the other option would be once you beat the stages have the option of redoing them without her like you can in, I think 10.1?

Re: manamon key

I have to say, I am not all that happy about the replacement system myself. I bought the game soon after it came out, then several months later, my computer completely irretrievably died. I emailed the developer with the paypal receipt because my backup of the key was also gone, and for whatever reason I could not find it in my email which I know I saved. I got one email back saying he would try, but never heard from him again. Fortunately I have a working copy on my laptop, but not only am I not willing to pay for something I already bought, I don't have the money to spend even if that weren't the case.Sadly I really enjoied the game, and while I agree with Jayde on most of his criticisms of the plot and balance issues, it was still worth it to have on my main computer.

Nice! I wonder if the ground combat error was the same type of error?

Re: Star Conquest soundpack?

I will take a look. If you can, can you post the errors so I know where in each .set file to look? they can get quite big, and I'm lazy and don't want to have to skim the whole thing.
