Re: How to make the Behringer Xenyx Q502US _mixer stop constantly routing

I don't have the mixer at hand right now, but basically there are three switches. The upper most is the phantom power, the middle one is "to phones" and the lower most is "to main mix". So you should have the main mix switched off and to phones on. The thing with it is that you won't hear your microphone through your headphones this way, but at least others won't hear your computer. Also, the sound of the main mix leaks just a little bit to the phones this way, but fortunately it doesn't leek the other way around.

I'm using the AKG k240 MKII headphones. They used to cost about 100 bucks, but they seem to go much cheaper now. They are flat sounding, semi-open, over ears. Also they have a big advantage in that they have a detachable cable. So if the cable stops working, which quite often is the first thing that does that, you can easily replace it.

2020-10-26 Thread AudioGames . net ForumOff-topic room : the_ruler_of_dark_forces via Audiogames-reflector

Re: Could someone describe how to bend a guitar string?

Yeah, I agree with post 3. Forget the chords first. Bending is usually done while playing melodies and lead lines anyway.A couple more tips for you:To make bending easier you can put your middle finger as a support behind your ring finger. SO if your ring finger is on the 7th fret of b-string you can put your middle finger on the 6th fret. So you can, so to say, divide the work between two or even more fingers.Once you have got the main idea down the next thing you should do is start practicing your bends being in tune. When doing the whole step bends you can reference the bent note on the b-string using the high e-string.So, when you bend the b-string from the 7th fret up a whole step using the ring finger, you can support it with your middle finger. This leaves your index finger free and thus you can place it on the 4th fret of your high e-string, which you can use as a reference note. Hope I explained it clearly enough.

Re: linux kali getting started as a newbie, study project

Sorry about derailing the topic just a little bit, but I am also a Virtualbox user and am quite happy with it.The main advantages I found are the addition of command line interface and ability to run the virtual machine in headless mode, which means that you don't have the annoying virtual machine window open all the time, especially when you ssh into it.So I have created a batch script that runs a virtual machine in headless mode, waits for 20 seconds and then launches the ssh connection.Although I haven't used vmware for years, so maybe these features are also added during that time.

The built in command line utility findstr should work. So, open your command prompt and type:findstr /m /s "string you want to search" "path to the directory"The /s switch tells the utility to search the directory and its subdirectories. The /m switch tells the program to output only the filename it found the string from and not the string itself. So if you wwant to see also the string, just remove the /m from the command.

As Kubuntu's desktop is KDE, you can't. Orca works in Mate and Gnome, so you'd better try Ubuntu Mate.Or I have missed the latest developments and the things are changed.

Yes, especially when there is so much slack in the string while being tuned so low. In fact when pressing too hard on the string in standard tuning, the pitch still goes upp a little bit. So that's why you have to apply just enough pressure and not too much. Here is one guy demonstrating it:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZGNsAU3Mv_k

Re: Lets Talk Bass Guitar

I'm mainly a guitar player, but sometimes I also pick up my 4-string instrument. The exact model is Yamaha RBX-170. It has PJ pickup configuration, which means that it has a p-bass pickup in the middle and jazz-bass pickup near the bridge. As an amp I used to use the Hartke Kickback-12, but as it was too big and heavy I have considered getting something smaller and portable for a long time. In the fall I will probably order myself a TC-Electronic bh250 for a head and bc208 from the same company as a cab. Acording to the reviews the head is really small, so you can easyly stick it into your gigbag. It also has some nice chorus, octaver and compressor effects. In order to change the effects you have to use the Toneprint app on your smartphone, but I've tested it and it is completely usable on Android. Also, the head has class-d poweramp, so if you don't want to use the cab and want to connect it straight to the mixer or audio interface, you can do it via the xlr output. The 2x8 cab doesn't have so much bottom end as the larger ones, but it is a lot more portable and I can probably drag it much more easily to some jam sessions. Also as a drive pedal I'm planning to buy the Electro Harmonix bass soulfood. In addition to some nice drive sounds it has also the blend knob, so you can mix your dirty sound with the clean sound.

Re: What is the strangest or scariest thing that has happened to you

Fortunately I haven't had a lot of scary experiences, but the one which was a bit creapy is as follows:I was shopping for some second hand vinyl records and after getting a nice stash of them, decided to go home. After walking for a couple of minutes on the street, I heard zombie like grunting from around the corner. As I really didn't feel like facing this creature, who was either extremely drunk, high or just had some serious issues, I turned around and started walking back, hoping that he will wonder off somewhere else. Instead I heard the grunting getting closer and closer. As I had no idea at all, what the hell was going through his mind, I started running, the zombie sounds still following me. So I entered the building I exited some minutes ago, whaiting while he would go away. As the building has a cosy bar downstairs I spent some ten minutes there, chatting a bit with the other people. Later on I thought that this guy may have just some kind of speech problem, but very probably not, otherwise he wouldn't follow a guy making zombie like sounds all the way.

I guess listening or feeling the morse code in high speeds is in a way kind of similar to listening your tts in a very fast rate. When sighted people hear my screenreader, they often ask me, how the heck can you understand it. Then I explain to them that I have just gradually made it faster and faster. It seems logical to me that it works the same way with morse code. Of course, whether or not to dedicate a big chunk of time to that is another issue.

Re: Lighting Fireworks Independently

The basic thing for me is still the same. You crouch down, put the ends of the match and a fuse together and after lighting the match and hearing the sizzling of the fuze you rise up and run.Of course lighting the bigger things on the ground is much more dangerous, so you better practice with the smaller stuff before attempting the larger ones.Although this may seem like repeating over and over again, I still have to say that you've gotta be careful with the fireworks! The last thing I wanna sea is someone getting hurt or injured while trying the methods I described in this thread. So as stated before, I do not take any responsibility for any consequences that might happen while trying the stuff described before.

Re: Lighting Fireworks Independently

@22 If you mean the very last explosions that were preceded by the so called whistling sounds, then it was done by the only partially sighted guy from our group and he put a firework into a metal container of a whiskey bottle. I was laughing quite hard because it sounded quite funny at the beginning, but actually that was one of these experiences, which as ManFromTheDark wrote, is the one we do not wish to repeat. After a little while the firework turned itself around and made some blasts towards the other direction, wer, as we have been told later, some cars were parked. Everything ended well, nothing got damaged, but still after finding it out, I was not laughhing so hard, as you probably guess. SO, this example also shows that fireworks are not some playthings and you have to be careful with them.It also has to be said that we were completely sober while doing this, because as you know all too well, alcohol lowers the sence of danger and therefore it's a big no no when lighting fireworks.

Yes, we got the permission from the owner to do various stupid things with it  and yes, it can be dangerous, so as the saying goes: Kids, do not try this at home.@14 Usually the fireworks we have in Estonia have quite sizzling fuses, so when you strike the match but don't hear the sound, then the fuse didn't ignite. So then just grab another match and repeat. Of course it has happened that I was not sure if it actually lit or not, so just in case I threw it down and run away. If there's no sizzling, whaitt a bit more and then repeat the loop from step 1.So, this method won't work so well in a noisy environment and will probably get quite dangerous. And the most important thing, use your goddanm common sense!

Yes, you can batch convert in Audacity. Go to file menu and then edit chains. After creating a chain you can add effects, but there is also export mp3, export ogg etc. Actually there is already a chain called "mp3 convert" or something like this. To apply the chain go to file menu and then apply chain. You can specify the mp3 quality when you choose export from the file menu.

There's probably much nicer and more elegant way for doing this, but when I want to run a command in the background which produces some output, I usually do this:nohup my_command &When I want to view the last lines of the output I type tail nohup.out. That works after logging out and in.Correct me if I'm wrong, but jobs command should show you only the processes that are active in the shell they were started in. So it may not work after logging off and then back in.I have used mainly pgrep .

About 7 years ago I used to play Swamp quite extensively. I also have high blood pressure and back then I didn't take the meds for it. Not the wisest thing to do, but I was kind of afraid of the sideeffects, addiction or whatever. Yeah, of course you kind of depend on them, but what's better, take a pill every day or run the risk of a bloodvestle in your hed going kaboom. But back to the topic. I listen to quite a lot of stuff in my headphones and sometimes fall asleep with them still on. As it was also quite stressful time in my life back then, my bp probably got quite high. So when I woke up with my headphones on, I quite a lot of times heard my blood rushing in my ears. My heartbeat had quite the same tempo as the Zombies walking in Swamp and the closed back headphones I had also made the sound feel louder. Add in the fact that I was just waking up. So it was quite strange and creepy experience.

Re: embarrassed to hold the white cane

Many years ago I didn't use my white cane alot when I was at some parties. I don't remember very much, what was going through my head at that time, it wasn't self-consciousness, but rather some misconception that if there are quite a lot of people there, using the cane propperly is quite hard anyway. This resulted in some quite humorous incidents, where I was assumed to be really hammered when I bumped into people and various things. As I also wear dark glasses, one story illustrates it quite well:A guy approaches me, puts his hand on my sholder and asks with that "I know what you're feeling" voice: Man, how many days you've been drinkin'?Me: (really confused): Umm, aa, That's my second beer.Guy: You're wearing sunglasses.Me (starting to realise) Aa yeah, I'm kind of used to wearing them all the time.Guy: Like sensitive to light or something?Me: To be honest it really doesn't matter to me if there's light or not. After that the guy disappeared without saying anything. And here's my slightly off topic question for native English speakers regarding the first question in the dialog above: In Estonian, in which language it took place, we have a really informal way of asking "How many days you've been drinking?". It translates to something like "Which day is it going?" or something like this. So, what is an English informal/slangy equivalent for that? Not that you would ask this in a formal situation, but you get what I mean.

It depends how much money you have to spend. As I got it as an aid, I had to pay 45$ (that should be from 45 to 50 dollars, or something like that). For this price there was no hesitation for me. True, you can do the same things with an Android device, but having a dedicated device with physical buttons makes listening to books and podcasts much easier and distraction free. If I had to pay about 400 bucks, I probably might have made a different choice.Although bard content is not available in Estonia, I can still enjoy the local audiobooks in Daisy format, Audible content and different podcasts.

@20I totally agree with you!I'm a person from Estonia who's account got suspended and when I wrote to them asking for the reason, the answer was simply that they do not ship to this country.Of course the workaround was to reset the password every time you wanted to log in, but I am quite sure that was not what they intended to.So that forms my opinion towards their attitude towards their their customers outside of US.Of course there can be some legal problems concerning this topic I cannot grasp, but it still leaves quite a sour taste into my mouth.

Re: Anyone here still spin cds?

I can't say I spin them very often. Although quite often I buy cds from the merch stand at the gigs by different performers in order to support them. Sometimes I also ask an autograph on their album. Although I do not see their signatures, it is just cool to know I have them. But afterwards I rip them into my computer and on the shelf they usually go.

I'm using Audiotechnica at-pl120. It has a direct drive, but the cartridge and stylus are not suitable for scratching. It has elliptical stylus, which is better for listening, but conical/spherical is more suitable for application you specified.

@turtlepower17I also like to lift and place the tonearm on the record myself, it is almost like a kind of ritual to prepare yourself for the listening. When it comes to setting it up, such as setting the weight of the cartridge and stuff like that, I haven't found a blind friendly way to do that, so I had to use sighted help for that. I don't think there are talking gram scales with 0.1 gram precision either.I have most of my record collection labeled with braille.

The username and password should be somewhere in the release notes. The default should be pi for the user and raspberry for the password. I use mine mainly for the nas, so I can just hook my usb harddrives to it and access it from the network. It also has openvpn installed, so I can access my stuff outside of my home network. Of course you can run a web server with it as well. I also tried to use it as a print server, so I didn't have to connect the printer to my laptop every time I wanted to print something, but it got some problems with the drivers, so I kind of gave up.

I also dig his playing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F1_6yCHnSI4Buckethead - Many of his songs are as weird as his name, but he also can make so called conventional music. Really diverse guy - on one album he can play heavy and shred like a maniac and on another he can play really soft and mellow. And he has a hell of a lot of albums. In one year he releas

Re: Which SSH client should I be using?

As I edit the config files quite often, copying the files back and forth is quite time consuming to me. Nano and teraterm work quite fine to me and when Im not sure, which line I am on, I use nvda say current line command, on laptop it is nvda+l.It also helps when you press the arrow keys slowly.

Re: What language is easy and what is difficult?

This post might be a bit off topic, but as we are already discussing different English accents, here it goes.First of all I really do like Brian Johnsons accent. Hes the man who sings in AC/DC. When I googled his accent, I read from a forum that hes got the Jordy accent, but hopefully Dark can confirm or falsify it:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VZl9CHPuzXkThen theres the rolling r thing. One of my favourit examples is Ramachandran. I guess one of the reasons is that this kind of r suits very well with this kind of huge voice:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rl2LwnaUA-kRegards

How can I add the secret of this folder in the newer version of btsync? Or does someone have to share the link instead?

Re: music tech and gear discussion and reviews.

If you want to play the synths or keyboards with your guitar and chords arent important to you, you can buy Sonuus g2m (guitar to midi). Although you can play only one note at a time, you still can get leads or cool basslines with it. I got it for about 95 eur, which in dollars should be a bit more. A couple of videos about it:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7fGHFtlt97whttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mEb4sNVNCjQIm going to As it detects one note at a time, youve gotta have really clean playing technique and different picks can yeald different results. Im planning to order myself the Korg Volca bass in a month. which by the way can make quite nice lead sounds as well. A couple of videos about it as well.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1B58f9GQRcEhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QeSTXjAQU0c
