If by "the city" you mean the main city square as opposed to the dock area you start off in, yes certainly, I'm currently in the forest and have also fought in the mountains too, though as I said if I start running into none working quests we'll see. The best cure though for both bugs and typos is players, so hopefully the devs will introduce commands to let players report issues in the mud directly, since the sooner notified, the sooner they can be fixed.

Maybe you've got further on than I have Lord Lundin I don't know, I haven't run into any quest bugs or issues of that sort myself, and the   writing quality seems adequate enough for depicting the world. I've noticed a couple of typos, EG on one occasion my female character was referd to as "fellow" but nothing ground breaking or worse than many muds, indeed nothing that couldn't be cleared up with a simple typo report command. then again, I freely admit in terms of mud playing I don't go through the writing with a fine tooth comb, and so long as the descriptions are atmospheric I don't mind a misplaced comma here and there.I haven't had time to play recently as much as i'd have liked and am still level 11, but if I run into anything serious like none working quest bugs I'll mention as much, since  is the sort of thing that would irritate me, but nothing of that sort so far, indeed  mostly extremely impressed as I said.

@Dark just to give you an example, friend of mine was searching for an item he needed for a quest, after 2 hours he asked about it on chat and was told to drop it as the quest was bugged.Also as someone who's good at writing, I hope you'd be the first to admit the descriptions are ... well ... just ... bad.Look, I absolutely love the classes, though there could be balance, but the ... hold on I keep getting interrupted and I just woke up so I'm grumpy. Personally I'm happy typing health in this one. Combat is generally slower and more tactical, which is a major plus imho, so it's not quite as necessary to have everything super timed, or at least so I've found so far.I also don't agree with lord Lundin, I'm loving where this one is going, particularly with the quests, unique world and systems and look forward to exploring more of the game.Indeed, I'd definitely recommend this one to people who enjoy questing and are tired of the usual dicu style auto hack n slash.

Not sure if this has been mentioned here before but because of the amount of action going on e.g. NPCs entrances and exits, other players, the staff have input a replay command. For instance you would type 'replay tells' and it would list your most recent tells, oldest to newest. Typing 'replay X' will list the available replay options.I'm really liking the MUD so far. I'm a human fighter at the moment, haven't created any permanent alts yet because I'm just testing out what works for me. My character name is Alaena

@Dark: There's a sign in the ironworks that tells you where to get what. Iron's the troll caves and I don't recall what's where after that. I'm wishing I could be an 'evil' ranger though, but I'm tempted to try a varconian agent. I just work better with melee honestly for this game, since I find range too fiddly but I've not tried it much, I wish I could find targets to practice on. My rogue got murdered quite a lot by failing pickpocketing.So how exactly would I make a high ded/xodge agent? I've everything at 7 across the board. I just wish I could repair my stuff for cheaper, if I can, I'm not sure howEDIT: Okay, is there a handy way to remember where things are in the merchant area? Trying to find the clockwork store but no idea where it is. I found the arcane stuff, tavern, dragon plaze, and so on...but no clockwork ideas

@Jace, I'm finding varconian ranger works well since I can use acid up close then run away and chuck arrows > Actually the best method I've found in combat seems to involve lots of dex, so while I bought some leather armour, it's not as much a concern, also, gold is relatively easy to come by, although obviously it takes gold to train skills, especially defensive ones. Actually, the only time I died was when I mistakenly attacked a group monster on my own, other than that combat seems nicely tactical if you plan right and don't do anything really stupid.My one miner irritation is that ranging isn't usable in more area types. It makes sense to not be able to range in city environments, but I would've thought planes would've been okay, what with those cats etc wandering around. I also would like to know where to get metal since I am going to need more arrows, and I've found where to find wood and feathers, though the only ores I've found so far are copper and tin with those stalkers.@Hadi, I've fixed the messages, though I do slightly miss the gory use of my arrows on targets .having both on brief is just a bit too lacking in flavour for me, so I find having my messages on brief and others on full is the right balance, though in general I like the fact that combat here isn't all about wailing away as fast as possible. I am tempted to create an alt, but as in most mudds I don't necessarily want to play through with an alt and not advance my main char, since at the moment advancing is still fun, indeed I generally prefer remort systems for this reason, though  as this mud seems a bit more permenant on characters I can understand why it doesn't have one of those.

Honestly, once people get a decentish weapon to work with, it's better to stockpile your gold for steel rather than buying armor, especially if you're a high dex setup. Just dodge and keep your risk at a safe level. once you worry about armor, you should be earning gold much faster to be able to grind out the funds needed for a suit of leather/chainmail steel armor.

Agent is fun as well, the gadgets mean I can mix it up. Though I'm not getting on too well with ranger, but I do like swords for an agent, honestly. Still thinking if I should go dual swords, or sword and dagger if I can. Then there's gadgets, too. I love night vision since not needing torches, plus backstab is great. Just need to raise swords higher to get more damage. Mudstalkers aren't that bad, really. I've got my wrist gun for a one shot per batle hit, got my swords.So in terms of a loanman setup, what should I go for weapon wise?Also Varconian is fun though too, that's pretty awesome, but I do like my current setupEDIT: Also yeah, does sword type matter like cutlass vs short sword vs bastard sword and so on?

Wow ranging skill is fun! though I'll have to train hide up a bit more to make full use of ambush it seems, still, having a monster stuck  in a trap and being peppered with arrows is amusing . I really wish there was an empty container command, since it's very annoying having to constantly type "open chest, get all from chest" particularly since locksmithing a chest tells you what's in it and not how to open it. I also wish those hidden trails went to more places than just lake fortune but we'll see. I've found some quests that look interesting, though having a quests nearby command might be nice to see what quests are in a given area. That being said, hurrah for a mud that actually doesn't have that ridiculously silly "no discussing qinfo" draconian rule I've seen ruin so many muds, especially ones with really obscure quests. Not that the quests in this mud are overly obscure with a little  exploring and the inspect command, one reason why a "nearby" might be nice to tell you what is in which area.One thing I am still wondering is how combat messages work and what the options are for configuration, since it'd be nice to shorten some of my messages but keep some of what my opponents are doing, though I suspect  I will need to toggle the options until I get them right. I'm also wondering when I find the area with the feathers so I can start fletching, and how armour making works, though again since as a ranger I'm guessing I need to go for leather armour anyway I'm not sure.

Still hoping for gun sword here, and I'm slowly plugging away at Lake Fortune I'm also trying to remember if it said in the help where I get gadgets from, I swear I read it once.Also, is a copper upgrade good from the starting wood sword? I got the short copper sword in Tempered Steel (love the names of things by the wyay), and the vest from the armor quest after destroying the tree.and paid through the nose for repairing my gear, yowch. Still hoping for gun sword here, and I'm slowly plugging away at the farmlands. I'm also trying to remember if it said in the help where I get gadgets from, I swear I read it once.Also, is a copper upgrade good from the starting wood sword? I got the short copper sword in Tempered Steel (love the names of things by the wyay), and the vest from the armor quest after destroying the tree.and paid through the nose for repairing my gear, yowch. Well I'm now level 10. I do wish there was a way to see how many quests are in a given location, since I have gone to the farmlands which was the next place after lake fortune dictated by the sword master's quest in the training hall, but haven't run into any quests npcs in that area yet. It'd be nice if there was a "quests nearby" command or similar, particularly since this game has a lot of quests, which is obviously a good thing and as always they're fun to do. I am also liking what I'm seeing of a lot of the little systems, such as coin collecting, indeed whilst the game doesn't have crafting, some of the armour smelting and mining looks quite interesting, though I do wish the compare command was a little more efifcient, since most of the time I used it it compared the wrong item or just plane wouldn't work. I also want to find some wilderness, since ranging looks really interesting, but thus far I haven't found many wilderness type areas to use it in.

@61 Thank you for this clarification. I can understand why it's given that description, and you are exactly right. That is exactly why I hate most RP Enforced games. I can't tell you how many times I've tried an RP Enforced game, and even asking a question on the newbie channel, I get told off for being ooc. And if they don't have a newbie channel, I ask on chat or whatever, for lack of anywhere else to ask, and again, shot down. WTF? Roleplaying can be fun, but not if you get told off for every tiny infraction, especially when you're brand new to the game and genuinely need help.This is why I never, ever, ever play Iron Realms games. They are all heavily RP Enforced and they're jerks to you if you break it even a little, even as a newbie. I dunno if they've gotten any better over the years, but I don't really want to know. I also played one that I don't remember the name once and it was custom codebase, but had a very, very similar feel to IR games, and encountered a similar reception. So, you can see why overall, RP enforced puts a very bad taste in my mouth. That said, I might check this one out because it does sound cool.

I've also been practicing leather armour and dodge, and trying to focus in combat on not being hit, IE advancing when enemies retreat and visa versa. The one thing I don't get is how the config message options work, since I seem to have brief set automatically when I used the config screen reader option, but I'm still getting flavour text. This is good, I like flavour text, but it'd be nice to know what the options are.

Loneman agents were popular when I played more often. A lot easier to get rp and group play going, and briskness is a fun buff for groups. I guess evonia is great for solo play, with the multiple sneak attacks to cycle when backstab is on cooldown. Shadowblade's nightblade attack puts you into hidden when you use it, so you can start a fight with two of your more specialized strikes. Granted, you don't get the fun area of effect backstabs that Loneman get.    personally, I'm going with daggers as I did see the existence of a weapon that can be best described as a gun dagger. Stab, shoot, stab shoot.

Personally I turned off the combat flavor messages to better assess my situation while fighting.Also RP helps haha! Last night I got drunk and pickpocketted someone, she caught me and then we RP:ed for a solid hour. I ended up getting several pieces of armor from it and an item that increases xp gain.

So, one more question...Should I go for a more combat focused Agent? I like the idea of an Evonia agent that focuses on murdering things, but my loanman is a good idea. I like the idea of the network, really, but I also love how rogues have more ways to get XP (stealing and pickpockets and so forth) without pure combat.So do any other classes have those perks?EDIT: Love the combat messages, to. This is  not a game like that. If you like to play the game and enjoy the game mechanics you can! Just don't run around talking about the latest Netflix series you just finished! (This last part was directly from Dayrinni himself lol)

This mud sounds really cool, except I hate, hate, hate RP Enforced! I don't mind RP once in a while, but I prefer to do it because I want to, not because I have to, and it's just a game, so if I want to play it and talk to my friends about real life, I don't want to get told off for it. A lot of good muds are like that and it's infuriating.

Meh, it seems the opinion of players is that medium armor is better for an agent. They get a buff to str with the hand gear to help with the weight problem, and I"m rocking platinum chainmail.

Just remember if you're an agent or rogue and rely on dodging and moving fast, you at least need leather armor  from level 20 or above because you will get hit hard by  the mobs and you need armor to protect you, so your best choice is armor:leatherwhen you are up to level 30, then you will buy leather armor with steel protectionSo  definitely get the armor:leather skill and practice it

Admittedly, for some classes... One's better off with no armor to benefit from the dodge bonuses, as it's not really worth the encumbrance penalties unless it's steel armor and above.   My favorite class is agent. Playing as a clockwork steam assassin is fun, with the imperial route giving you ways to violently poke people, or Loneman, which has a bunch of powerful support abilities, debuffs, and an area backstab flurry. (Also Loneman network does grant a recall ability from anywhere back to the main city at the hideout).

So...bit of a quandry. I've done what I'm assuming are the rogue starter quests, up to the heist. It pointed me off to Lake Fortune, but poking around shows me there's still quests.Am I right in assuming I've not done all the quests yet? I'm liking blade a lot and like how you progress skills by doing, then train them up at least where I'm at, level 6 (and I knocked off the bank heist there, win)Now tempted to try a ranger alt once I get back on there. It's oddly fun.Just wish I could turn off all the fluff atop room descs, like asterisks and such

Ok so a few thingsYou can delete your character. log in to your character, and type delete now, then delete confirmNow, regarding armor.As far as i know, there is armor, (covers legs, chest, head and arms) and there's clothings (grants affects, and for roleplay reasons)Now. when it comes to armor and weapons, there are  basically five materials each one being much much more expensive than the other one.1. starting armor and weapons, which is wood/copper/leather2. steel. that includes steel plated leather armor, steel plated chain armor, steel plated plate armor.3. Orinsteel4. Platinum5. TitaniumFor buying newbie  equipment and steel you only need gold  but any other material higher than that you need to loot ore and turn them to ingots in the ironworks shop and then  buy your equipments with gold and ingots.IF you want to have a good idea of how it looks like, you have to start wearing steel armor from level 30. earlier if you manage to buy one, then  better!same with weapons.Don't forget to inspect your weapons before buying. some are one handed and some two!And don't forget, one handed weapons deal much less damage than two handed ones, because you can double wield them  or wield them with a shield. I recommend two handed weapons as a starting weapon.

Wow, great news on the suggestions. With Armour that's one thing I'm not sure about myself at the moment, since it seems very few items actually give armour rating, though I haven't explored the merchant's district fully. Also, as a ranger who relies on swiftness I'm guessing wearing hulking plate or chain is a bad idea? That was why I chose the leather armour skill. Then again as I said, I am never a fan of huge amounts of eq balancing in game and would much rather have a combat that can be won by your tactics in battle rather than your ability to minimax certain numbers, after all I doubt many real knights agonised about whether their battered spiked steel gauntlets were better than their well crafted bronze gauntlets .Actually now that I'm out of the newbie area, I'm finding I like the gold costs in so much as they mean selling loot actually means something to your character, and are something to work towards, plus of course they make quest rewards from gold drops have a point.Oddly enough, I'm finding no problem with abbreviations, since the game is a modern mud and will happily extrapolate from what I put in, EG fire P hood for when I want to shoot at one of those sneaky hoodlums in the newbie area.@Mirage, oddly enough I'm also a ranger, though of the reptile race who apparently like snacking on the frog people . The way archery works, is once you've equipped your bow, you need to decide what shot to fire, rapid, deft, or precise. Each shot comes with a degree of risk. The higher your risk, and the worse your position, the more likely you are to miss or critical fail.Rapid fire will increase your position, whereas precise shots will dicrease it. So combat is usually a matter of using precise when in a good or better position, then using rapid fire when your in a bad position. In addition to this, you can advance and retreat. This doesn't actually mean advancing on or retreating from your target, it means moving either forward or back in the room, and obviously as a ranged fighter you want to be as far from your target as possible. so my usual method, given that at the start of combat your always at the centre of the room with your target, is to retreat then start firing, and if the npc comes to get me, to advance/ retreat past them to the other end of the room and continue. I've also found abilities that slow enemy movement down useful, like the reptile race's acid spit, or when I got it, immobilising shot.This is also one of the few occasions I've found in a mud where I turn the prompt off completely. Usually I like to customise it to show a percentage of my hp, but in this game, since combat is in general more tactical, I prefer the psace to look at what I'm doing, then again I freely admit I like the full flavour of the combat messages for this one, which obviously necessitates cutting down other information. speaking of prompts though, I am not sure at this stage if the game has a hunger and thirst system, since I've found and eaten food, but tdidn't overly notice effects from it, though obviously since there are skills in the wild to rest, camp etc, and if a crafting system is planned this is something I wouldn't mind clarification on, EG perhaps warnings when your character was hungry or thirsty.Actually, from the little I've seen so far, it looks as if wilderness in the game is going to be interesting, particularly for rangers, since whilst there isn't a crafting system as such, you can already cut trees down for wood, which presumably is used to make fires with the camping skill and to fletch arrows (though I've not found any metal yet so haven't had chance to try fletching). I'm away this evening at my parents, and since I don't have a working laptop there at the second won't be able to get back on tempest until tomorrow, but I'll be looking forward to it. Btw, is there a way to give a one off donation to the game? I'd b more than happy to donate to keep things running, but I'd rather not commit myself to a monthly patrion account since finances on a monthly basis are a little tight at the moment.

Much appreciation to Dayrinni for the responsiveness concerning accessibility.I am now . a ranger frog person, . . (just went blank on the race name as I started the post). LOL.I am impressed!Character creation feels unique, maybe because of so many class and race choices.I really enjoy the lack of mud school, and that instead, you go right into the game.I love how quests are made clear so that you don't pass them up.I haven't figured out archery yet, which is bad since I'm a ranger, and I am a little confused on skills, abilities, tier points, etc. But I will grasp all those concepts as I go along.

@hadi.gsf and Dayrinni:Sorry for stiring up so much trouble with this simple comment. I am not the target group for this particular mud I think and thats totally fine. Names are weirdly important to me but I mostly choose ones that are anticlimactily goofy and anti-heroic because I like to ridicule myself. Doesn't fit into a rp-environment to well though. What bothers me is the most intriguing for others. You don't have to design around everyones tastes I gave the mud a try already with a name I can't even remember... Looks fun, maybe I give it some more tries. But I wouldn't count on me as a player. I am more of a simple hack'n'slay guy.Cool though that you'd go the extra mile for troublemakers like me. Seems to be a plus point for the administration. Good luck with this project!

Look, the builders themselves admit a lot of the writing is attrocious ... that being because it stems from old concepts from the 90s. That being said, their responsiveness to feedback is incredible. Take time to write good descriptions for things you feel need it or need to be replaced, and it will be so --- I am sure.

I was thinking of playing a dragon, but I'll make that an alt for a future date.Right now, I'm thinking ranger, but I can't decide what race.With as much positive feedback as this one is getting, I imagine there may be crafting in the future. But it doesn't sound like I'll miss it much with all that seems to already be there.It wants you to have a plan for your character, and a background, so I'm planning that out. I just tried the mud today and I do love the various systems and mechanics. I also like that it doesn't seem to be a super strict RP environment, which is its own feature in some ways.I do have a problem with an RP intensive mud such as this being festooned with so many typos and grammar issues, particularly during the character creation process. It's at that stage that you really want to sell yourself to potential players, and having what's supposed to be a serious roleplaying game plagued by multiple spelling mistakes puts a bit of a damper on the initial experience.What's worse is that there doesn't seem to be an integral command to report these typographical mistakes in the game. A new player isn't likely to want to join your forum or Discord just so they can report typos and spelling errors. That's a lot of investment for a player to make into a game's atmosphere before they can even begin to contribute such small reports.By no means is this a deal breaker for the game, but it is (in my view) a bit of a hiccup in the interface. Off-game forums and discussion mediums are great, but they should always be ancillary to an in-game method of communicating concerns to the staff.This issue aside, I really did enjoy the game and its quests. There seem to be plenty of things to unlock so that the game will remain fun for newbies and veterans alike, something that's usually hard to manage. Now if only we had a crafting system. Kai

A lot of abilities actually can be abreviated, just not the way you think. For example, a lot of muds use bs as the abreviation for backstab, but this mud uses bac. The lengthiest thing I have to type is unl doom mud ... for example. I also set up triggers to automated some stuff which is perfectly fine.This is one of the few games where gold is actually one of the struggles. Even as a theft-dedicated rogue at level 36 I am ... well not exactly struggling to get gold but there are so many things to spend it on.As for the armor, some quests give armor and other boosting items (you'll need a magnifying glass to detect magic effects, but examining it will say if it does have a magic effect so I just wear it). You have to buy most of your armor at the merchant district and I am telling you now to invest in everything made out of steel, since it offers the best protection.Alas, I wish armor was found more in the wildernhess, but it'd be a pain to sort through all the gear (maybe a visible armor flag could be added to identify armor from just regular junk). Keep in mind that the game is in it's infency and a bigger world, crafting, more unique loot drops, etc etc are all potentially down the line and it won't come without the input from the community.

I don't like having to rapidtype them out really fast when I use them, especially because I'm prone to typos.Right now I'm playing a Vokion fighter with talented and brute force as my focus and specialization.

I do agree on the armor thing, I hate eq balancing. Also kind of hoping the whole needing gold and ability points to raise skills balances out at some point. It just seems a little strange to need both, but its not a big deal.

I usually love the idea of playing dragons, but maybe i'll create an alt at some point for that since I'm enjoying ranger combat. At the moment I'm just enjoying the quests, though yee gods, why does everyone hate mudstalkers? .I will say I'm loving the combat system, particularly the way that intelligent use of combat can make a big difference, especially advance and retreat. My method at the moment is to use immobilization and/or acid, then ping the target with as many precise shots as possible. The only thing I do find a littel odd is armour seems a wee bit hard to come bye, there are lots of clothes, but not much that gives actual protection, indeed the only armour I've got so far is quest gear, though that's okay since i'm never a big fan of eq balancing anyway, indeed combat here suits me since it's much more about taking turns and playing well than just wailing away automatically. Oh, and once I got out of the newbie area, gold is now much easier to find. the only miner access tweak I slightly would like to see, would be the ability to get individual information with single key presses. Health will report hp and stamina, but the only way to find out gold on hand or level progress seems to be to use either inventory or score.

I'm not far at all, still in the newbie quests, but its a nice change of pace to have a fantasy game that's more than just human, elf, dwarf, and mage or fighter. Interestingly though, I'm still playing an elf mage. Still highly recommend this game. My character has died twice, but since I'm still under level 10, not much of an effect, accept for showing up in the town center and disrupting a few conversations. lol. I like that equipment is saved, and corpse retrieval isn't a thing. It makes it a little easier to get into the game.

Regarding dragon. It is a different concept I advise to stay away from it. It may be boring for  a very long time. You need to get to level 100 and after that you become a young dragon, and will get more skills for your second run of level 100. The race is for dedicated players who love the game and are planning to stay for a very very long time.Regardless, if you enjoy what it does go for it!

@dark, If that's the only thing that bothers you then at higher level it wouldn't anymore, because the progress would be much more harder! But  yeah gold keeps coming in and coming in as you keep visiting new areas.IF i have not mentioned this before, i updated the config heading, you can use the config message command to make your combat brief if the flavor message is annoying you.By the way when you go to the town, the blademaster has a quest called protecting TralisiaThis is a special quest and keeps recommending new areas for you as you level up for you to kill mobs on. I will explain this in another post I have to go walk my dog!

The only thing I don't like as much is how you need to keep paying to train skills, particularly since you can often have the xp but not the cash, then again lots of enemies seem to have loot and sellall is your friend (so long as you use keep flags).I also like the number of quests in the game, I've already run into a couple in the newbie area off the beaten track which was nice. @Liam, yeah, name conventions are fun, it's where  I came up with Vezeduliz, . I have a vague idea for my character's background based on ratial lore, though at the moment I'm just enjoying the quests and exploration.I can also see this as one of the games where multiple characters might be worth trying since it looks as if all the classes have slightly different play styles.
