Re: Recommendation: Nexus Clash

Nexus Clash has received an update. The most important changes are overall improvements to site performance as well as an overhaul of the combat system to give new characters a higher base combat accuracy and move accuracy bonuses to earlier points in combat skill trees.

Re: Recommendation: Nexus Clash

I have updated the hypermap that the game links to to include the keyboard controls. If you use NVDA it will be necessary to press the alt button with the key binds to bypass NVDA picking up the press itself. Here is the run down of the controls.Press K to enter keyboard mode, which will place the cursor on to the map. From there press the up, down, left, or right arrow keys to move the cursor around the map. If for instance you want to see what tiles are around a specific location (like the location where your character is in the game) press G and then enter in the coordinates you are at in an X coma space Y format and press enter (no alt button needed for the enter key). This will move the cursor directly to that coordinate. To change planes press the number buttons 1 through 6 where 1 is Laurentia, 2 is the Sewers, 3 is Elysium, 4 is Stygia, 5 is the Wyrm's Lair, and 6 is Terra Nullius. Those are the basics of the controls, I still intend to work on marker setting, path finding from coordinate to coordinate, Badge locations, guild locations, and portals near the currently selected coordinate. It is a work in progress, but at least now the link for my development version of the map is not needed to get some functionality out of it.If there is anything that just isn't working or doesn't work well for you please feel free to let me know. Here are the direct links, even though they are linked to in game now:hypermap:https://plscks.github.io/testHYPERMAP/hypermap.htmlCharacter Planner:https://plscks.github.io/testHYPERMAP/c … _v2_4.html

Re: Recommendation: Nexus Clash

Nexus Clash has been updated today! While there are some other game mechanics changes that are part of the patch, this update heavily focuses on accessibility improvements that should make some things easier for players using screen readers. There is much more that we hope to do for improved accessibility in the future, but this is a start that should help with issues that some of the folks reading this have helpfully flagged for the development team's attention. The accessibility-related updates are:● Cardinal-direction move buttons such as North and East now also apply to interior movement inside buildings, not just outside movement.● Fixed an issue where character creation text remained when typing in character name creation, which caused screen reader users to sometimes have character names with unwanted extra text.● Character targeting dropdowns now say your faction relationship to the target, such as Ally or Hostile, if such a relationship exists.● The character planner has been updated to a more accessible version. plus key and minus key keyboard shortcuts level and delevel in the new planner version, after a starting skill has been chosen. "G" as a keyboard shortcut generates the skill list.● Pet targeting dropdowns now tell you the master of the pet and whether you are friendly or hostile to them.● More keyboard shortcuts have been added to the game:- X to heal the current selected target.- R to pick up (Retrieve) items on the ground.- B to enter and exit a building. B will also open the door from outside if a closed (but not locked) door is a barrier to entry.- J to sabotage or repair power. Inside a power plant, this applies to repairing or sabotaging generators.- W to attack wards or doors- L to retrieve or capture stronghold flags- O to bash or build stronghold fortifications- T to shoot targets, if any targets are set up- For a full list of Nexus Clash keyboard shortcuts, both new and those that already existed, see the following link: https://wiki.nexuscla.sh/wiki/index.php … _Shortcuts

Re: Recommendation: Nexus Clash

Heya! I'm Kandarin, and I'm part of the development team for Nexus Clash. It's encouraging to see people from this community visiting our site; while Nexus was not really designed with a screen reader in mind, we are currently looking at ways to make some aspects more accessible. Some of this is low hanging fruit (like adding more keyboard shortcuts) and some is trickier, like making the map make more sense. Most of Nexus is coded in PHP and most of our design team mainly knows PHP, so the public discussion has been helpful as it is clear there are some aspects of HTML we could use better such as the buttons.Nexus development team tends to build a lot of changes on the development server and bring them over in large updates, so we still have some ideas to explore and develop before the next update can happen.I would echo what plscks said about factions, Nexus is a lot easier in a faction. There's no downside to having more members in a faction in Nexus Clash, so nearly every faction will let people join and hang out in their stronghold and not expect you to join organized PVP. The site has a great community and likes it when people get more involved, but it's not required.

Dark, don't use the in-game map, it is non-accessible to us, use the one both me and Pls gave the link to:https://plscks.github.io/devHYPERMAP/hypermap.htmlThe problem is, that it is finished only for the Lorentia district for now, but as Pls said, he is working on it, so hopefully it will be soon ready for other districts too.And yes, a solution for directions like in Urban Dead would be the most convenient for us, meaning the type of the location to be displayed instead of moving directions, feel free to suggest it in that forum Pls mentioned, but when I joined the game, not even these directions were shown. There was only a list of "move" commands displayed, (at least how much my NVDA could read), the directions were added on my appeal, so they already meant an improvement, and have proven the helpful intention of the game-staff.But yes, sure, the best solution would definitely be an "Urban Dead type map orientation", telling us the locations, what exactly is in each direction around us, the question is how hard it would be for the staff, or Pls to add or work out.The movement directions are btw listed in the same order as in Urban Dead, nw, n, ne, w, e, sw, s, se, so at least this much was familiar to me the moment they were shown, and I recognized the same pattern.

Re: Recommendation: Nexus Clash

You are referring to the in game map that is a table with 5 rows and columns and the NW, N, NE, W, E, SW, S, and SE buttons on it? I can certainly understand how that could be particularly frustrating. Perhaps Caccio72 has some pointers for moving around the map, they seem to have figured it out rather well. But then again there is quite a lot to be desired there, I do believe that the games development team is actively trying to figure out how to enhance the games user interface to be more accessible so there is bound to be a learning curve there, but the intent is that the user interface will get better for everyone, if it's good from the accessibility standpoint then it will be good for everyone after all.Anyways, thanks for giving it a try, it's good to have you with us and there are in fact wandering monster mobs on the outer planes but they can be rather nasty to young characters. For now you should make your goal to search for books at libraries, I see you have the starting skill of search which is very good. You should have started with at least 10 books, when you use them you gain 10xp for each one, they are single use items and will be removed from your inventory once used. And like I said you are completely free to go it on your own, but it is a little easier to join up with a faction. But that said, just because you have joined a faction doesn't mean you have to do faction related things or anything. For instance, I am a leader in the Ridleybank Resistance Front, we are the largest faction in the game currently. I like to think that we are a new player friendly faction and as such it is perfectly fine with me if people use it as a stepping stone if you will, a place to safely level up by reading or healing others, and then leaving and going off to do your own thing later on once you are a higher level character and can better manage and defend yourself. Most of the large factions have this stance too, and often are located close to Libraries and Hospitals. All Your Souls is another good one.Long story short there, it is perfectly okay to join a faction to use them for location and safety while you learn the ropes. It gives you a safe place to retreat to while still being able to get out and do whatever you'd like to do. Most of the time people in factions are doing their own thing anyways.

Re: Recommendation: Nexus Clash

I'm having a look at the game, but I'm afraid the in game map is not working for me very well, since reading down with NVdA and chrome each location is announced on one line EG Sea, Beach, port facility etc, interspersed with this are the directional buttons to move, and I cannot tell which label belongs to which location since even reading by line with NVDA and chrome they all appear as a list. it would be really helpful if either each each directional button could have the location it points to added to its label, EG NW port facility, or if not, if coordinate labels could be added to the surrounding map locations to let you know which was what. If I'm missing something, in NVdA navigation here, or there's a setting I need to change, fair enough. Btw, interestingly enough, Urban dead actually has a button based map and there the buttons are in logical order.other than that at the moment I'm not sure on the game, since I confess with a lack of monsters to fight or quests to do, I'm not as sure if this will be my thing, since generally I'm more interested in exploring the world and advancing myself than interacting with others either by pvp or by cooperation, but I'm willing to at least give this a try. My first char is called Dawn.

I played for a while then I took a break to get my higher education in and start a family. I remembered the game a year and a half or so ago and jumped right back in. I am not a member of the development, but I am the caretaker of our map for the time being. Accessibility was not even on my radar when I took over the map, since Caccio72 joined us though I have been trying to implement changes to it to make it more accessible. Any input is very welcome, I am not a programmer professionally and it is only a hobby for me, so updates may come slowly. That is how it is for most of the Nexus Clash developers, hobbyist and huge fans of the game working to make it better, the development team and admins are very active and receptive to ideas so any input is very welcome. Now as far as playing goes, a huge majority of players are probably unfactioned and do in fact play the lone wolf character. This play style is certainly doable and welcomed, you might progress a little slower but being out and about the map can lead to some nice interactions with players that you might not otherwise have had the chance to meet. The maps are fairly large and there are plenty of places to explore, not only that but there are badges you can find that in effect tell the greater story of the current Nexus breath, you find them by searching in or outside of specific buildings. There is a very rich lore to the Nexus and the development team does a very good job of tying that into the gameplay. Some worthwhile things to note for newcomers though, when you create your character, here is placeholder text in the text field that reads "Character Name" if you do not remove it it will become part of your name, I've asked an admin about this and it is going to get patched to not happen any more, so if this has happened to you it is fixable by admin. They have been fixing this as they've been seeing it. Also by default you are given three character slots, this is enough to have one character of each alignment to try out all three. If you have questions the community is very helpful, we have a discord server where the developers and admin are usually around, we also have a forums tied to the game it is not as used as it once was, but many people regularly check it, myself included. There is also a game wiki which is pretty well kept and has lots of useful information in it, it is a good place to look if you want further information on a skill or if you want to look up the lore of the Nexus. I have been working slowly on a points of interest wiki page with building types, descriptions, and coordinates on them, it isn't done yet, but I'll keep updating it as I get them time. I also have a Discord bot that has all of the information that the map has and is capable of giving direction from a starting point to a destination by coordinate or giving directions from a starting coordinate to the nearest building of a given type.Feel free to ask me any questions here, or anyone on the game's Discord server, or in the game's forums in the Out-of-Character Discussion, Build Advise, or Rules Discussion subforums. The community is always welcoming of new players and we would love to have any of you join on in!Now here are a few links that might be helpful:Caccio72 linked to the development map I am working on, for now it only has the primary plane map Laurentia working. alt+k enters keyboard mode alt+g let's you jump the cursor to a specific coordinate, then from there alt+arrows will let you move the selector around. I will work on implementing an accessible way to use the maps pathfinding in the future. And please note that this is a different link than the one in the game.https://plscks.github.io/devHYPERMAP/hypermap.htmlHere is the start of the points of interest wiki page I began and continue to work on:https://wiki.nexuscla.sh/wiki/index.php … urentiaPoIHere are the wiki pages for new players and also a guide to not regretting your skill choices:https://wiki.nexuscla.sh/wiki/index.php … ayer_Guidehttps://wiki.nexuscla.sh/wiki/index.php … fe_ChoicesThe skill choices one is to be taken with a grain of salt and isn't a plan for everyone, but it does have some very valuable information in it.The Nexus Clash general Discord server:https://discord.gg/gf87UmwAnd the Nexus Clash Forums:https://www.nexusclash.com/modules.php?name=ForumsAlso, thanks Caccio72 for giving Nexus Clash a great review and for joining our community and bringing awareness to this community here! And again, feel free to ask me any questions you have.

Re: Recommendation: Nexus Clash

Well since I am usually a terrible team player, I also prefer moving around and exploring in solo, but yeah, Nexus Clash is indeed based on factions and player cooperation, and since it is a really good game satisfying all my expectations from its genre, (it's much better than Urban Dead for example if you ask me), I decided to give up my preferred "lone wolf" type gameplay in its case, for I consider all the creativity, the things one can do in a large, strong faction way worth that sacrifice. As for the map and locations, there is a hypermap and planner among the options on the game's homepage, which are unfortunately not quite accessible to screen readers, (at least not to NVDA I use), but a vetern player has made a much more accessible version of the hypermap, where you can select the area, and then move around inside it with alt+arrows, it tells you the basic info for all locations aka coordinates, so you can use it to navigate around and plan your movement. You must 1st hit alt+k to enter keyboard navigation mode, and once you select an area of the map, alt+g to enter it, then simply navigate with alt+direction arrows, or even type in the exact coordinates to jump to a targeted location instantly. That same player is also working on making the planner accessible to us, it will even tell you the shortest way to a selected destination, so we will know all the directions we have to move in to reach it.Here is the link to that map:https://plscks.github.io/devHYPERMAP/hypermap.html

ah ok, I am already in a faction since I join, how do you supposed to know where are the buildings though? by asking around my faction? my faction does have a library though, I can  search around for some books.

Fair enough. I'm afraid that sounds less my thing, if I play a game I want to go out and discover things and progress on my own, not be reliant on other people.Different strokes etc.

Re: Recommendation: Nexus Clash

As I told, join a large/strong faction asap, without it you won't have too much to do, nor too good chances to progress.Yes, the game is indeed heavily player driven, but its players are very active, I can always find some of them on Discord to ask for advices or chat with, and once you are in a faction, you will have tons of weapons, armour, clothes, equipment, potions, magic items, etc to choose from and equip, plus older players also know what and where to fight, or how to gain experience in an other way, like searching for books in the library and read them, or heal (quite often) wounded faction members, those 2 are the fastest way for newer players to level/skill up.

Re: Recommendation: Nexus Clash

I had a look at the wiki, but it seems the game is heavily player driven and there is less to do solo than by going out and discovering for yourself, lots of factions and such though the activities and navigation sounded interesting.

Re: Recommendation: Nexus Clash

There, I am playing the game only once or twice daily, for only 30-60 minutes or so, and am already about to reach level 9 of the maximum 30 existing ones, leveling up almost each 2nd time I play it...and started playing it only a week or so ago.Normally to do this, you guys must join a larger, strong faction right after you start the game, the sooner the better, find one which suits your gameplay style and you are already on the right track!

Well that's definitely something you can ask the staff to implement, just join the Discord chat and do so, as I wrote, they already made similar modifications/adjustments for me, so I can play the game easier and faster already.

Re: Recommendation: Nexus Clash

I strongly suggest you to join some strong faction, meaning one with lots of members, they have their stronghold which grants you safety, and offers you quite a lot of types of activities to perform, you will only need to find and enter it.And joining faction is not leader-approved, (only kicking members is), so feel free to choose any faction whose description you like, and you will join them instantly.Oh, and join the game's Discord chat too, there you can ask for further advices, and also suggest adjustments, modifications to the staff to make playing with screen reader easier.Link:https://discordapp.com/channels/2170202 … 5378320384
