[AZORES-Genealogy] What does Recebidos em sanctos mean?

I found this on a baptism record and after the names of the parents and
where they were baptized, it says recebidos em sanctos.  I gather it is
something about their marriage??? or what does it mean?

The temple was erected in fulfillment of a vow made in 1849 by Colonel
Nicolau Maria Raposo de Amaral  (1770-1865) and his wife, Teresa Ermelinda
Rebelo (1797-1895). The invocation was chosen St. Nicholas, bishop of Myra
in Lycia, buried in Bari, Italy, and therefore improperly designated as
"bishop of Bari" .1

The chosen site, with 25,000 square meters, had been previously acquired,
April 3, 1834, becoming a member of one primogeniture established by deed
since September 29, 1821. Design in Gothic Revival style was entrusted to
Manuel Lamberto Monteiro, which was also responsible for directing the
work, started in 1849 with the support of 60 workers. Was decisive for the
choice of location of the temple a spring of water nearby, which made the
temple stay relatively isolated. To provide you with access, we constructed
a mall cedar, headed today by two towering pines.

By deed of June 25, 1857 the temple was endowed with a sum of 2 $ 600
annual reis for their conservation. Subsequently, on May 11, 1859 received
a dowry to the oil lamp of the Blessed Sacrament.

The church was consecrated amid great festivity on August 16, 1857, with a
solemn Mass celebrated by the bishop of the Diocese of Angra, D. Frei
Estêvão de Jesus Maria.

The founders kept a chaplain, who had built the Passal, allowing the valley
population attend Mass, which, until then, was only possible in the
neighboring parishes. At the time, the place of the Sete Cidades belonged
to the parishes and Ginetes and Mosteiros, separated by the bed of the
"Ribeira da Praia", which came to be called, henceforth, Rua da Igreja.

The law of May 19, 1863, which abolished the morgadios in Portugal, made
​​this temple back to the ownership of its founders.

In the twentieth century, his heirs, no longer wishing to preserve it,
donated it to the people in 1969, which became the headquarters of curacy
in the parish office on 23 May of that same year. A little later, in 1971,
the Sete Cidades were elevated to parish.

There is no paterno because the priest does not know who they are. Maria 
was born as stated Dec 15- 1816, bap- Dec 17 of same year. She is filha de 
Maria Francisca solteira, e pai nao sabido, netta materno de Raymundo de 
Medeiros e Francisca dos Anjos, ja defuntos naturais do lugar de Ginetes 
fraguesia de Sao Sebastiao. It also states Maria is being baptised in the 
said parish of NS da Conceicao, Mosteiros, and that her mother, Maria 
Francisca, is also a native of Mosteiros. The godfather is Jose Pra 
(Pereira) de Figrdo (Figueiredo), sui juris. Cura was Jose Ignacio Rapozo 
and the witnesses were Joaquim Joze de Vasconcellos and Joam Pavam da 
Silva. Maria was born 1816 not 1716. The previous entry says 1816, and 
following entry clearly shows 1817 on the margin, a common entry by priests 
to indicate when the year begins.

Doesn't add much that you don't know, but hopefully things are clearer.

I have more information.  Thank goodness the baptismals for Mosteiros are 
indexed!  

I found Maria, daughter of Maria Francisca.  Neto Materno (not paterno) are 
Rajmundo de Medeiros and Franca. dos Anjos (deceased), natives of Ginetes.

She was born 15 Dec 1716.  I can't read the Padrinho on this one.  It starts 
out Jose.

Anyway, I think I might possibly have the right family.  I don't see any other 
Maria Francisca's floating around the index.

Lorraine, if he became a citizen of the USA after 1906 the name change could be 
on the Naturalization Document. My grandfather became a citizen in 1942 and 
there is an attachment that says he legally changed his name at that time. 
Also, an uncle did the same and it is notated on the Naturalization Record.

If your dad was here for the WWI Draft Registration or WWII Draft Registration 
and his name was changed by then, try using that for proving his name change.  
Also, what about his U. S. citizenship records?  Most of the name changes were 
probably not legally changed.

In case of interest, the Estrela baptisms are now complete to 1905, though 1904 appears to be either lost or mistakenly skipped.I have to envy the fact baptisms go all the way back to 1541 with no obvious gaps! Thanks for the help.  I checked the previous citizenship thread and learned 
a lot.  I have my father's birth and baptism records from Graciosa but he 
changed his name when he came to America and I don't have a record of that 
name change.  (Don't know if it was ever changed legally.)  It seems that 
without that record I can't proceed with the citizenship process.  But HK, 
I'll contact you off list to find out how your process is going.
