Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Furtado in Pleasanton, CA
Eric, You are right, Godparents are usually a relative or close friend. In this case, Maria Furtado, was a close friend, not married to any of the Anselmo brothers (8), or Pine (Pinheiro) brother. My Father never referred to her as his Aunt. He also, never mentioned who his God Father was. It is possible that he didn't have a God Father, possible but not likely. The only time she was mentioned is when he gave me her picture. So if I learn the name of the God Father, I would know if it was Maria's husband, or one of the uncle's. If the God Father was Maria's husband, it would be easier to identify her family, living in Pleasanton, or Eden Township, etc. The church has the name of the God Father, if only they will share that info. Since my Father was born in 1912, I don't know how any Anselmo or Pine (Pinheiro) information would be of value when researching for a non relative, Furtado. My original inquiry was if any member may have an ancestor whose name was Maria Furtado, so that I would be able to share her picture with them. Ally In a message dated 11/1/2012 11:49:47 P.M. You can make appointments to research there. It could be a lot of effort to find the same thing you already know. I'd try a different approach. Godparents are usually the parents family members or close family friends. Look at all the parents siblings, grandparents etc The most important information for this search is missing. You never stated you father's name, or his parents names, where they came from or when they arrived in the US. Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Furtado in Pleasanton, CA
Rick ~ No Saint Augustine's. I had wrote to them a few years ago, and the church clerk called me back and said that they no longer look up ancestors for people. She said that the Pope put a stop to information being given out without the written permission of ones Bishop. This has been a headache for the last two years. One of the items on my bucket list is to meet with my Bishop's clerk, who at the moment is on vacation. So once he returns, I will make an appointment and he will write another letter, and maybe this time, Patsy and I will get our long awaited copies. One can only hope. Thanks Eric, The Mary that was born in 1905, is too young to be the Mary/Godmother to my Father. The picture that I have, she is at least 30 years older than he is, if not 40 years older. Also, she immigrated in 1921. My Father was born in 1912, and was baptized soon after. I'm going to write to St. Augustine again, and ask if they will give the name of the godfather. The only reason that they gave me her name, is that I sent them a copy of the picture and copied Judy at the Pleasanton Museum, as proof it was for Pleasanton Historical records and not for anything else. I did write Judy, at the PT Museum, just in case she happens to know or have info on the Furtado family. In doing the research with her at the museum, we found out that her Father and mine, attended Amador High at the same time, as they were in many pictures together. We are having fun, exchanging notes and as I am sorting through my years of mess, I am sending her pictures for the museum. Thank you for your help ~ I'll be in town the week before Mother's Day 2013. Maybe we can visit before you go on your shift. Ally In a message dated 10/30/2012 7:11:26 P.M. We had carpet laid and I had to empty two rooms of pure junk collection! I'm having a field day tossing, sorting, and donating.and then I found this picture. The only info that I have, is her name is Maria Furtado, and she was my Father's Godmother. So, that would be her married name. The picture is WWII era, maybe 1942. She would be at least 30 years older than my Father. By looking at the picture she is in her 60's or 70's. My Father was born in 1912, in Pleasanton. So I'm guessing that his christening was soon after his birth. I'm not finding anything of her in Pleasanton. There is a Mary, but she would be way too young to fit this picture. The Furtado family that I'm trying to locate, would have lived in Pleasanton between 1900 and 1960. So far no luck. But I have written the Catholic Church in Pleasanton and hoping they will give me his name. I'll let you know what I find. Ally In a message dated 10/2/2012 9:41:15 A.M. Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Furtado in Pleasanton, CA
Ally, According to the 1957 Pleasanton phone book , there are no Furtado families listed. The 1940 census also lists no Furtado in town. The 1930 shows Manuel and Mary Furtado, children Mary born in 1926 in Rhode Island, Edward, b. 1929, and John b. 1930 in California. It says Mary was born 1905, Azores, and immigrated in 1921. Saw your note at work, maybe next trip. Eric Edgar On Tue, Oct 30, 2012 at 11:41 AM, netadosaco...@aol.com wrote: ** Robin ~ Sorry to answer you so late. Ally, Could you provide me additional information on your Furtado's in Pleasanton? [AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Furtado in Pleasanton, CA
Do you have an ancestry.com account? This is her record: http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/24094979/person/1473461270 Seems she was still living CA in 1957 according to that year's city directory. Her address was 198 S Main F Cntrvl 8-2646. Her parents were Antone F Amaral (1865-1902) and Mary Selvia (1867-1947). Mary had 3 kids (William, Madeline, and an unknown child) with husband William Furtado (1881-). Good luck! - Leanne On Tuesday, September 25, 2012 3:50:09 PM UTC-7, Ally wrote: According to our records her name is Mary I. Furtado Does anyone have this person in their family tree?
