Re: Language Module for Asciidoc

2019-08-27 Thread Barbara Snyder
I am using this syntax coloring file. I would like to add something to it.

<> is the format for internal cross-references. When I use it in a
doc, everything after the << turns red when I start typing the text for the
xref. The xref does work correctly in the HTML output file.

I don't know enough about regex to edit this file myself. Can anyone help?

Thanks -- Barbara

This should be a preference, not hidden in a modal like this. I just
updated to the latest version and spellcheck stopped working again. I had
to hunt through this forum to find the solution, because that bit of
preference did not carry over. Will file a request at some point.

Is there a feature whereby I could have the same doc open in two windows,
but my edits just show up in one of them? So one is reference and one is

If not, I know I can just copy paste into a new doc and use that as the

Problems with spellcheck?

2019-02-12 Thread Barbara Snyder
Before I consider filing a bug, are there any known issues with
highlighting spelling errors? I am finding it to be randomly useful lately,
often ignoring something in front of a comma or LF, for example, or just
ignoring stuff in general. This chunk of text isn't showing any errors in
BBEdit:

 andd dand specfic

Although sometimes if I leave and come back, the red underlines do show up.

Re: Navigating folders and files in a project sidebar from the keyboard?

2019-02-07 Thread Barbara Snyder
Brian --

What I have discovered (noted earlier) is the following:

If I am in the editing window, pressing ctrl-shift-tab THREE times gets me
to the list of files at the top of the sidebar.

Then I can use arrow keys to go up and down, and press Enter to open (if
the file is not already open).

Then ctrl-tab THREE times gets me back to the editing window.

Re: Navigating folders and files in a project sidebar from the keyboard?

2019-02-07 Thread Barbara Snyder
OK maybe my terminology is inexact.

I am in the list of files (top left of sidebar).

I click or use the keyboard to navigate to an open document, which now shows up
in the editor window.

I want to use the keyboard to place my cursor in the open document.

After more futzing, I have finally determined that I have to use Ctrl-tab 3
times to get into the document, then ctrl-shift-tab 3 times to get back to the
file list.

Is that as designed?

Thanks -- Barbara

P.S. At least now I have an idea what I can do in Keyboard Maestro!

Re: Navigating folders and files in a project sidebar from the keyboard?

2019-02-07 Thread Barbara Snyder
That isn't working for me. I checked all my keyboard shortcuts and macros in
other places (like mac settings and Keyboard Maestro), and I do not have those
keys mapped to anything that might be conflicting. They move me among the stuff
in the sidebar (icons on bottom etc) and to other windows I might have open
(like Find) but never plop me into the editor. Except when it lands me in
scratchpad.txt. It's just weird.

IOW if I am in the sidebar and navigate to the name of a document that is open,
I can never get from there to the editor via the keyboard.

What commands do you use in KM to get to the correct window?

Thanks -- Barbara

Re: Navigating folders and files in a project sidebar from the keyboard?

2019-02-06 Thread Barbara Snyder
Hi - I know these messages are old, but I am running into the same issues.
But nothing suggested here works WRT using the keyboard. Cmd-Option-arrows
doesn't seem to do anything. Neither do the ctrl-tab options.

What I want to do is use the keyboard to select a different file from the
project file list.

I ran all the recommended expert preferences. This one didn't work (a
single-click still displays the file):

defaults write com.barebones.bbedit ProjectsOpenItemsOnSingleClick -bool NO

I'm also not sure what the difference between opening for edit and
revealing is, but this also didn't seem to do anything.

defaults write com.barebones.bbedit AutoRevealSelectedDocumentInProjectList
-bool YES

In any case, all I am looking for is keyboard control of the project's file
list.

Thanks -- Barbara

Re: OT - Where has Google hidden the "Sort By" options in the "new Google Groups" (post 7/21/15)

2019-02-06 Thread Barbara Snyder
I found another page that gave a different way to sort, but that didn't
work either. (It was actually a workaround for Sort being
removed.) https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/Apps/ludRzBNdk6w
So I think the short answer is, "You can't."

Another message told people to give
feedback.
https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/apps/ZPk08io2UaE;context-place=topicsearchin/apps/sort

This is right up there with Atlassian telling you they won't implement any
way for you to specify that you want a link in Confluence to open in a new
window. What are these people thinking?

Re: Can't save project

2019-02-06 Thread Barbara Snyder
OK I didn't realize projects auto-saved. (I generally don't like auto-save.) So
then I still don't understand why Save Project is even on the menu if it's
never necessary or (in my case at least) available.

And it also doesn't explain why the first time I reopened a project I had
created the day before, it didn't contain any files. But it's working now, so
who knows?

Yes, full version 12.1.6, Mac 10.13.6

Re: Can't save project

2019-02-05 Thread Barbara Snyder
Ok so creating a new project saves it, but then I added files to it. Does
it just keep auto-saving? Why is there an option to save a project at all,
if it’s never available?

I am willing to admit that I am missing something; I just don’t know what
it is.

Can't save project

2019-02-05 Thread Barbara Snyder
I hardly ever use projects, but thought it would come in handy yesterday. I
created a project with a few files. I assumed I saved it, but today when I
opened it, it didn't contain the files. So I added them in again. Then I
wanted to save the project, but the option was greyed out.

So I started over - created a new project, added some files. Save Project
is still greyed out.

Am I missing something really basic here?

Re: Export list of menu shortcuts in plain text?

2018-08-24 Thread Barbara Snyder
Ha, well first of all, I was looking at /Users/barbara/Library/Application
Support/BBEdit/Setup/Menu Shortcuts.plist instead of what I just learned I
should be looking at:
/Users/barbara/Library/Preferences/com.barebones.bbedit.plist

Correct? I should be looking at the latter?

And I am comparing them but don't see anything resembling a list of
shortcut keys. The only differences are in recent files etc, or stuff like
this (one string has VAM and another has WAM):

BookmarkData

Ym9va2QEAAQQMAAA
VAMAAAUA

Also, the broken one is missing the last line below.

Wlst
FNMW

Stuff like that.

So if there is someplace else I should be looking, please advise!

Thanks -- Barbara

Export list of menu shortcuts in plain text?

2018-08-24 Thread Barbara Snyder
I did something to one of my menu shortcuts that caused TextExpander to
stop working, but have no idea what. I restored the defaults to fix it, and
kept a copy of the old plist. I'd like to compare the old and new settings
to see what the differences are and pinpoint the problem.

Is there a way to export the preferences to a plain text format? I know I
can use Xcode or buy a plist editor, but if there's a way to avoid that,
I'd like to. I'm on High Sierra.

Add all open files to a project?

2018-08-22 Thread Barbara Snyder
I have a bunch of open files. I'd like to create a project that includes
all open files (without me having to add them individually). Is there a way
to do this? Or do I have to enter a feature request?

Also, the list of currently open documents near the bottom of the project
pane for a new project is blank, and the little clock icon at the bottom
(which I assume means recent documents) shows me a single random file that
is currently open. So even if I wanted to manually add all the currently
open files to the project, I have to do it from the + menu and just select
them in the finder, correct? I can't find any other way to add
other currently open files to the project. Is there a way?

grep for files that don't have a pattern?

Is there a way to use grep to find all files that do not contain a
particular string? In this case, it's the meta:: directive in my RST files
- I want to find files that I haven't yet added it to.

Re: Checkmark denoting current doc prevents knowing if the doc is dirty

2018-08-03 Thread Barbara Snyder
Unless I'm in a project, I never see the arrow to all open files, because I
have the setting to always open files in a separate window, which is how I
prefer to work. (So many variables to explain our different experiences!)

I never noticed the dot-in-red-dot at upper left mentioned in another
response, so that's also very useful. Between that and the Windows palette,
I think I'm good in terms of seeing status at a glance, but I'm still going
to enter a feature request. There must be another icon that could be used
to indicate "open and dirty."

Thanks, everyone!

2018-08-02 Thread Barbara Snyder
Thanks, Chris. I didn't know about the Windows palette and now will keep it
open at all times! Also I gave it a shortcut, as you suggested.

I guess I don't understand why the Windows dropdown menu couldn't use the
same implementation (highlight + dot). Anyway, I'll go through the proper
channels to make a request.

Thanks again -- Barbara

Simdude, I don't use projects BTW so don't see that right-arrow. I'm just
talking about on the main Window dropdown. If you see a dot on the main
window dropdown for the active doc, can you post an example showing that?

OK yes I forgot about the checkmark, but other people are saying that if a
doc is dirty, even if it's the current doc, they are seeing the dot. I am
not.

Kerri said she is using 12.2. Can I get ahold of that?

Is it at all possible that there is some setting that has affected this
behavior?

Checkmark denoting current doc prevents knowing if the doc is dirty

2018-07-31 Thread Barbara Snyder

I could have sworn that I was always able to see the dot marking a dirty
doc when looking at the Window dropdown. Today I noticed that there is a
checkmark next to the document I am in, which is nice and which I don't
remember being there before (but maybe I just forgot), but the checkmark is
in the same place the dot would be. The upshot is I did a build thinking
all my docs were saved when in fact the one I was currently looking at was
not.

Am I making this up (that I could always see the dot, even if I was looking
at the current doc)?

I can make a request to put the dot on the right or something, so as not to
interfere with the checkmark. But I'm just wondering if I'm correct that
this is new behavior.

Yes I know I can look at the little icon at the upper right of a document
to see if it's dirty or not; that's not the point of this topic. The point
is being able to see if any doc is clean or dirty by glancing at the Window
dropdown.

Thanks -- Barbara

2017-03-30 Thread Barbara Snyder
It looks like you are looking at this symbol bit in TextWrangler:

When I click it, I can see my list of comments:

I don't see this in the Preferences of either app, so am not sure what it's
called or what's making it show up in TW, but clearly it's just not there in
BBE.

Re: Problem With Return Key in the Global Search Window

2017-01-17 Thread Barbara Snyder
Thanks, Bruce. I haven't memorized all those keys, so that's not much help.
What I am expecting is that Tab cycles through all the sections of the
window, as per Mac standard as set in Keyboard Settings.

<https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-duHJEV3uaw0/WH6VuAINVEI/AFY/LfppnWv_NSUawsEpzynNPA6zmE-TuH_1wCLcB/s1600/Screen%2BShot%2B2017-01-17%2Bat%2B2.06.39%2BPM.png>

It looks like BBEdit isn't respecting this setting, and is responding as if
I had chosen the first option. So I'll have to follow up with a bug report.

It also seems to me that Find All and Find Next not being available outside
the Find window (while Find Next is in fact available) is a bug as well.

Thanks -- Barbara

Re: Problem With Return Key in the Global Search Window

2017-01-17 Thread Barbara Snyder
I can't answer your question, but if Return behavior is as designed, then I
think Shift-return should go to a new line, not (or in addition to)
option-return. Shift-return is a standard for LF instead of CRLF.

Also, to piggyback on the topic of the search window, does anyone know if
there is a way to move over to the buttons on the right via the keyboard?
So if Next is highlighted, I could instead click Find All, without using
the mouse?

Thanks -- Barbara

Re: How to Edit a 'Default' Clipping Set in BBEdit (??)

2017-01-03 Thread Barbara Snyder
The Help says BBEdit doesn't install any clipping sets by default. So you must
have installed some manually. To edit them, go to the Clippings folder (you can
get there from the Clippings menu) and open the clipping you want to edit. FWIW
I just installed an HTML5 set from the web site noted in the Help
(http://www.barebones.com/support/bbedit/clippings_library.html#gloss_html5
)
and the img clipping looks like this:

Re: Why this layout?

2016-10-28 Thread Barbara Snyder
It looks like a bug to me, related to tab at start of line followed by long
lines, when page wrap view is on. If you turn off page wrap view, the long line
shows up in the right place, but of course if you print the file you won't see
the whole line because it isn't wrapping.

So I would report this as a bug.

Creating language-specific palettes

2016-04-15 Thread Barbara Snyder
Hello --

I am using reStructuredText and would like to have a palette similar to the
HTML one, so for example I could choose Emphasis, and instead of the
surrounding my text, I would get two asterisks. Is there any way
to create or customize palettes to do this?

Clippings is not what I am looking for - I want to apply styles to existing
text. And I already have the language add-on so I am getting syntax
completion etc.

I can use Keyboard Maestro but wanted to try to do it from within BBEdit
first if possible. I'm using version 11.

Thanks -- Barbara
